Rune chests are locked chests that can only be opened once you have destroyed three rune plates hidden near the chest. They will usually be high up on columns and statues, or somewhat off the map on a wall and will require you to throw your shield to destroy them. Hold  to line up your shot (make sure the line is completely white, as any red will indicate the shield will hit an obstacle before reaching the target). Once you have destroyed all three runes, you can open the chest. The chest will be marked on the map when you get close enough, but the rune plates will not.
