How to unlock the Let's Get Off This Rock achievement in Before We Leave - Definitive Guide

You can get this achievement with custom difficulty settings when you create a new game. So I suggest you do this as this guide is written with the default settings changed to make this easier. This is how I got the achievement. I would also recommend being familiar with how this game works first in regards to research, resource gathering/production, buildings, shipping, etc.

I had peep expectations set to max (even though this has no effect on this achievement), but most importantly, I had start resources set to extra on each island and building cost set to quarter.

MAIN GOALS:

Research - Repair, Elevator, Mining, Metalwork, School, Warehouse, Shipping, Power, Glasswork, Fuel, and Steel.

Wooden Sailing Ship - 25 peeps to repair it. 22 wood, 22 tools, 10 stone, 10 power, 30 food, and 30 water.

Spaceship - 60 peeps on Island 2 to repair it. 22 wood, 22 tools, 30 stone, 10 power, 50 food, 50 water, 2 glass, 2 steel, and 12 fuel.

BEST TIP: Pause the game, a lot. Gives you time to plan roads, buildings, etc. As well as move around the map to check on buildings, like the library to make sure research is progressing. Pausing the game is your friend.

When the game loads, pause the game by pressing down on the D-pad 3 times. Press up on the D-pad to speed back up. The clock you are watching is right beneath the green bar that says Island 1 at the top of the screen. It reads 00:00:00. You want to get the spaceship repaired and launched before it reads 01:30:00. This initial start should also get you the achievement for repairing the wooden sailing ship in 15 in-game minutes as well.

Look around your starting area. You want to locate the Ruined Generator and the Ruined Ship. While the game is paused go ahead and build roads to each of these. By using custom settings we do not need the Transmogrifier to launch the sailing ship, but you might need it for this achievement if you run low on tools before you can build the required industry to make tools, so build a road to it. Next, find the closest Green Research cluster. Build a road to this.

Build order is important. Peeps won't build structures unless they have a hut to live in. They will however demolish trees and stone. The shelter holds 50 peeps, we need to get 25 of them out in order to repair the ship. Initial only three emerge without a hut to live in. The others will all need somewhere to live before leaving the shelter. Huts receive a bonus if built next to each other. A single hut will house two peeps. Build another hut next to that one, and now each of those huts will house 3 peeps. A hut with two other huts touching it will now house 4 peeps. But this is where the bonus stops. 4 peeps in one hut is the maximum. So try to cluster huts together so you need to build less of them. At the top of the screen, the numbers to the right of the green bar that says Island 1 are how many peeps have emerged followed by how many beds are available.

Demolish any stone or trees that prevent you from clustering huts together. You don't need to build all huts at once, but get some down so peeps will come out and add to the workforce. Pause and unpause the game as necessary.

After you get several huts built, you need to build an Explorers Hut next to the cluster of Green research. And then a Library next to that to cut down on peep travel time. The only research we need is Repair. It requires 20 green research. So once 20 is gathered, start researching this. Once researched you can select the Ruined Generator and repair it. Once you have 25 peeps on the surface, you can select to repair the Ruined Ship.

While you are waiting for research to generate, continue to build huts so you get to 25 beds. You may also want to build a woodcutter near a stand of trees as close to the ship on a direct road to it in order to make sure you don't run out of wood. You will also need to supply the ship with food and water. I built 2 wells and 5 potatoes. If you build farm plots adjacent to a well you receive a small speed bonus for how fast the food grows. You also receive a bonus if the food plot is touching a hut, but I didn't worry about trying to plan that layout. Wells on the other hand, receive a speed penalty if built next to a hut.

Once the ship is repaired, the peeps must then gather supplies to launch the ship. You need 20 wood, 20 tools, 10 stone, 30 potatoes, and 30 water. Also pause the Wood Generator because it will continue to use wood that we need for the ship. You do this by selecting the building and then clicking the green pause button at the center top of the building's info box. Once all these supplies are gathered, the ship will launch, with an added 2 or 3 second delay for the peeps to board, and then the ship officially launches. I accomplished this several times between the 11 and 12 minute mark.

When this ship launches, make a game file save. You need to explore the planet with your new colony ship. The starting planet seems to only ever have 3 big islands to settle. One of the other two will have the spaceship that needs repairing, while the 3rd island has the oil resource needed to make fuel for the ship. Both of these will also have red research. Sail around to discover where these islands are. One of these islands will be a desert island, while the other may be another nice grassland or snow covered or another desert. The islands are randomly generated so player experiences will vary.

Reload your save and colonize the island with the spaceship. You need 60 peeps on this island to begin repairing the ship thus you need to build a school and enough huts to house them. Get down some huts, a library, school, and Explorers Hut as soon as possible. You need red research for Shipping, etc. Get Shipping researched in the library on Island 2, and then build a shipwright and port on Island 1. Build a trade ship first. Then a colony ship. Then another trade ship as each finishes. And possibly a third trade ship if needed. You will need to ship either red or green research to one island or the other as Glasswork requires a combination of both to research.

You can begin repairing the ship once you get to 60 peeps regardless of whether you have all the needed resources available as peeps will bring what you do have, BUT the first phase of repair requires 2 steel which is the last tech you research as well as 2 glass.

Build a road to the spaceship. I built 2 warehouses near it, one to store food and water, the other tools, stone, and wood. I also built my manufacturing near it - wood generator, tool maker, iron smelter, and steel smelter. Continue to build up your resources to fill these warehouses and important them from Island 1 as well.

At 32 minutes, my colony ship for the 3rd island was complete. I built just enough infrastructure to supply what I needed from Island 3 which was fuel and glass as this was a desert island for me. If your island is not a desert, you will have to import glass because you need glass to build the fuel refinery or you could just build the refinery on Island 2 along with the other industrial buildings and just import the oil with your second trade ship. As noted by Fuzzy Bear Hugs in the comments, you will need to import 2 iron bars to build the oil well on Island 3. (Sometimes you can get lucky and find these in stasis boxes littered around each island. They look like silver boxes. Sometimes you can open them just by clicking on them, while others require you to build a road to them first. )

At 52 minutes, I began repairing the spaceship. At 58 minutes, the spaceship was repaired and the achievement popped as the peeps were boarding. I had 30 in-game minutes to spare so this achievement is quite doable. Pause the game frequently to plan ahead and you should be fine.

Great guide. I was able to get the ship repaired in 1 hour 13 minutes following this.

My mistakes - demolishing stuff really takes a lot of time. Also, for your oil island, be sure to have the second trade ship ready to send it an iron bar for the oil harvester. I then built a third trade ship in the mean time and sent the unrefined oil to Island 2 (spaceship island) for refining.

Second mistake was superfluous researching. Really only research the core techs and what you need in the order the guide lists.

Thanks. Glad it helped! I had to write most of this guide twice as TA was acting up the day I wrote it and lost most of what I wrote when I tried to post it. I will add your tip for building the oil well.

Amazing solution, tried a couple times on my own and missed it by 5-10 minutes, with this guide I finished it with almost 30 mins to spare.

Thank you for the guide! The achievement popped right at 48:10 for me before Crew was fully loaded.

Also this is something I'm not sure if it's well-known: You can migrate upto 30 ppl from one island to another to quickly boost the population.

In my case Island 2 (spaceship) was a desert, and Island 3 (oil) was a tundra. Park an empty tradeship next to a port, and you can grab ppl from Forest & bring them over to Desert or Tundra to speed up Houses & Schools.
