How to unlock the Trader achievement in Car Mechanic Simulator 2021 - Definitive Guide

PEOPLE REJOICE, ACHIEVEMENT IS EXPLOITABLE!

I leave the previous guide here, just for the record and to put all the comments into context.

The exploit is the following - full credit to Cosworthy who dropped it into the comment section, I have only made one addition to make it work 100% of the time.

Buy a car at the auction house, take it fully apart, fix and assemble. No need to add liquids, no need to do the headlight adjustment or the wheels alignment. Once all 4 areas are at 100%, you are good to go.

Now make a manual save and note the time of the save for reference. Click on sell car, before confirming make sure to have 1 finger on the A button, your other hand on the power cord of the Xbox. To make it easier you can use a power cable extension with an on/off switch, then you cant slip. This is way more reliable than dashboarding and quitting and works without a hassle.

Sell the car, screen goes black, you hear the ca-ching of the cash and THEN IMMEDIATELY cut the power. Switch it back, boot the Xbox, get back to the game. I have tested on a Series X, this game doesnt support Quick resume, so you have to quickly reload the game. You will notice, that the achievement did not progress - DO NOT WORRY. Once back in the game, you will see that the time of the save is the one you noted, so it didnt save the car sell. Your car will be there, ready to be sold again.

If you want to test if the method works for you, sell the car now, you will see that the achievement progressed 4%, not 2%. Then you can repeat the same process several times (I have tried 5 times power cut before finally selling, progressing 10%), depending on your level of confidence.

Now all we need is to get to level 50, as despite fully renovating 20+ cars, I am still stuck at level 36. But at least I can do it in an enjoyable way through fixing cars, instead of full assemblies.

Original guide:

What a fucked up achievement this is. Goes waaaaay beyond normal and fun.

Buy cars either from the auction house or from barns. Take it apart COMPLETELY to the last bolt. Repair the parts that you can, then put the car back together, buying any missing parts.

There is no way to track if the car will count for the achievement or not and there is no savegame to be reloaded, so pay attention to the following checklist, to make sure everything has been taken care of, otherwise you will waste 60-90 minutes per car.

1. Fix and install all body parts, including licence plates. Use the welder.
2. Buy all new interior parts, seats and steering wheel.
3. Fix and install all car parts. Check all the pages in the list in the car status if everything is 100%
4. Go to the car washer and do both exterior and interior. I believe regular wash is not needed, but wont hurt. Interior is a must!
5. Do wheels and headlights alignment.
6. Check on the car status screen in the bottom right if all 4 areas are 100%. This is still not a guarantee for the achievement tracker to move, I had 100% without doing wheel alignment and it didnt count.
7. Pray

This achievement alone will take 50-70 hours of tedious, repetitive, pointless activity.

Stuck at 4% the last 3 cars I sold did nothing. Annoying asf

Lets keep each other up to date. I have tried 2 more things:
1.) Last 3 cars bought at auction didnt work, so went for a Barn - it counted
2.) Noticed that many other achievements also didnt progress (like the 10,000 screws), mostly after I left the game and jumped back in with quick resume. So for the car in #1 I quitted the game, restarted and went from Barn to completion in one go - it counted.

Now I will try an auction car in one go, to see which of the two above was the trigger.

Its a lot faster to do auction.

Status update: Auction confirmed to work!

Average 42% starting condition, renovated as per the steps in the guide. I did it all in 1 sitting, without leaving the game even for a second. Both the same country license plates . All other achievements were tracking properly.

Bad news: Repeated EVERYTHING step by step, no progress on the tracker. The only difference was that this auction car had a better starting condition, average 80%. So maybe this has something to do with, having lower than x%.

Hi, guys I was first to complete the game and this is what I found when going of this achievement.

The first title update broke the saving of stats. If you look in the stats menu from the main it will tell you how many cars you have restored and sold, if you exit the game it will always revert back to the total you had before the first title update. Side note the xbox trackers don’t reset when your stats do.

For me I had 21 before the title update, so I had to restore 29 cars and sell them all at the same time to get to the 50.
All cars will count so long as in the car status screen in the bottom right if all 4 areas are 100%.

Hope this makes sense and helps you out, if you have any questions just let me know.

Auction car bought at 54% condition, didn't work. Weird, that when I painted at factory color, the painting achievement didn't move, repainted a different one it moved, sold immediately, no progress on renovations.

Oh thank you Kimi for the clarification. First of all, congrats on your completion, with this bug not many will follow as it could require 40+ renovations in one sitting, hoping it will not revert back at any point for whatever reasons, sending you back to square 1.

I will stop playing this then until see it fixed.

Thanks, its wasn't fun constantly losing progress until I figured out what was happening.

You don't have to restore all the cars in one sitting, just sell them all in one sitting. The main problem is having the credits to do it, think it cost me about 1 million to buy and restore the 29 cars.

Hopefully they will patch it soon.

OK so just did an auction car and left nothing to chance. Plates, test path, alignment, tracking, fluids, standard parts, factory paint, original wheels and correct make and size tyres.

Just sold it after the update and nothing. :-(

I'm going to prep 29 as suggested and try that way. So so annoying.

It's not 29 you have to prepare, but the number you had prior to the title update. It can be as much as 45 for me...

No meaningful differences in terms of complexity, a few minutes left or right maybe, once you found your most effective sequence. After taking them apart, I found myself always with 11-12 pages to fix on the repair table.

Only timesaver is if you do auctioned cars in good condition (80%+), because loosening bolts will not slow you down.

So is it confirmed that the tracker is buggy for this achievement, because i've sold cars that are all 100% and sometimes the tracker goes up and sometimes not, but i always do everything on each car all the time, 100%, weld, clean, track lights & tires, paint etc.
As 50 is a lot of cars especially if sometimes it doesn't register each time.

This is a joke, how difficult it can be to fix a counter to be saved. I will not do the 50 at once for sure, would take ages to collect money for that. Not to mention the heart attack if it wouldn't unlock after selling all at once :)

Update 1.0.8 followed instantly. Ingame counter still jumps back. As Steam users reported the same problem i really hope now for the next update. Its already out on PC but no one has informed about the trader achievement.

The changelog for 1.0.9 contains "improved memory management and fixed memory leaks"....i hope thats it.

I wont collect 40 cars, as my tracker is only at 10.

I did it! It took a lot of time (about 2 weeks, every day 2-3 hours), but I could.
My strategy was simple. I bought car on auction and sell with profit to gain the money, tutorials you can watch on YouTube. I have to sell 34 cars and it costed me about 1 million. I bought cars on auction from 5000 to 2000 then repair it to 100% (don't forget to use car wash).

So to be clear you only need that one save? Sell power off load the save and repeat? Then it counts all the repeats on the tracker after you sell and stay in game?

Yes correct. Save, power off IMMEDIATELY after selling, restart the game and repeat. You will see that the number of fixed and sold cars will increase in the stats, despite the non-moving achievement progress.

In the end, I got the achievement unlocked message in my Xbox app on mobile, despite it didnt show up on the console itself yet ... weird.

BREAKING NEWS

With update to version 1.18.0.0 the achievement seems finally patched. Ingame trackers for barns and repaired cars are working.

If your ingame tracker is lower than the achievement progress, you will first fill that gap, before both numbers start increasing together.

getting about 10 per hour, give or take. using a one x cuz i don't want my xsx taking a pounding by ripping it's chord out 50+ times. i think it'd be way quicker on xsx if i chose to do that. sometimes on the one x the game hiccups during the sale and the muscle memory timing makes you rip the chord out slightly too quick and it doesn't count.

Yep. Had exactly the same problem I've tried all ways in. I've stripped about 30 cars down and the last about 8 ive sold the percentage hasn't budged.

The only thing I could be doing wrong is the plates. I swap them out for UK ones. I will try it with the plates with wherever the country is the car has on.

I fill all fluids check alignment and even run the test bed only thing else I haven't ran is the dyno.

My next car I'll report back.

I use all standard parts, all the correct tyres and sizes change the interior for new interior but the same and I've even tried painting the cars back to factory and with their current colour incase that mattered. Its absolutely driving me mad that you can't find any requirements for a "restored" vehicle.

Problem is. Soon as you sell it forces a save. :-(

SOMEONE HELP LOL

OK. The problem with the trackers not updating is because the stats of the game are stucked. Since the 1.0.0.4 update they became stucked. You need to manage to get all the requirements in one go to unlock the achievement.

My barn count is stucked in 14 and the sold cars in 11.
I figured it out because I did 6 barns and the tracker start moving again. I quit the game and in the next day, the counter was back to 14 and the tracker only start to move again when i visit 7 more barns.

To confirm this theory, I sold one car and quit to main menu. My stats said that i sold 12 cars. Then I quit the game and start it again and my stats go back to 11.

What I'm doing right now is fixing the cars and keeping it on the alley. When I fix more than 41 (just to be safe) I will sold all of them to unlock the achievement.

I hope they fix this very soon.

If you're worried about cutting the power, you can also do this on PC with ALT+F4. It's instantaneous and will not harm your system.

Be careful to do it IMMEDIATELY when the screen turns black, if you have a quicker drive such as an SSD/M2, as it may save too quickly

The percentage went up without permanently selling the car for me.

Well after the first attempt my entire save being lost, then being able to recover from the cloud i carried on and got i think 15 more cars sold but then one actually saved, i have no idea how as i was turning the plug off the same second every time, didnt even see the save icon this time lol, so better get 2 more cars fixed up to carry on, only need 9 more, may just do it the normal way again.... still baffled how it even managed to successfully save

JUST FOUND A MASSIVE TIME SAVER AND IF DONE PERFECTLY EACH TIME YOU WILL ONLY HAVE TO BUILD ONE CAR

The goal is to beat the autosave feature that occurs every time you sell a car so quick reactions is everything here as to not lose your newly built car to it.

-Build any car you want up to 100% on all 4 bars.
(Theres no need to do wheel or headlight alignment nor fill up oil etc.)

-Perform a manual save so we can return to this point.

READ THE NEXT POINT FULLY BEFORE SELLING!!! You have been warned…. May as well check your tracker to see what percentage you are on so you can verify its working after.

-The moment after you press ‘A’ to sell IMMEDIATELY open the guide menu and quit out of CMS21.

If done correctly when you reload your profile your car will be still there and checking your progress it should of moved 2% as well.

I have jumped from 62% to 72% in 5mins

EDIT: Just completed 38% (19 fully built cars) in 5 hours (messed up a few times) I will try to get a recording of what I did, but feel free to message me if you want need any help

Ah cool! We can save scum. So to get it faster, do 2 cars, near completion. Save the game and Quit out. Re-open the game, sell the 2 cars, go to Manage Game in the guide, Then Delete the LOCAL SAVE ONLY. This will kill the game without saving a save.

Common practice that is used with a lot of games.

Alright. Save Scumming doesn't work. What you do for quitting out is something different. I've attempted to sell 5, delete local save and reload and achievement tracker doesn't move.

I just achieved this success quickly on PC. 1h to renovate a car and 1h more to validate the success. I totally renovated a car.

Once renovated, I placed it in front of the garage and recorded my game.

Then, ATTENTION, the manipulation must be done VERY QUICKLY.

When you click the sell button, simultaneously do ALT F4. So that the automatic backup is not done. DON'T WAIT FOR THE BLACK SCREEN.

You will not receive the money from the sale, however, you will see the percentage of progress of your success increase by 2% after each manipulation.

I found it impossible to be fast enough to crash the game from dashboard on Xbox Series X because it loads and saves the game too fast.

Instead, right after I sold the car, I snapped the power cord off from the console while the screen is still black (I'd put the cord on quite loose so you don't get delayed when unplugging it). The tracker doesn't update, but it will still register it. If you do it 10 times and then "legitimately" sell the car, you will see the tracker updating after that. For me it jumped from 2% -> 36% after I had been doing this method for a little while.

This guide only works on Xbox Series X|S.

Do NOT do this until you have the "Car flipper" & "Great roll" achievements or they won't unlock until you reset your progress.

Open the Xbox Accessories app and create a new profile, map "Share button, press" to Launch App and select any game that opens fast and can't be quick resumed.

Once you have fully renovated a car, get the final sell screen up, press the share button and A immediately after. (You'll know you're doing it right if the first menu disappears but the second menu behind it stays and your game opens before the screen goes black.) Once your game opens, remove Car Mechanic Simulator 2021 from your quick resume and close the game you opened and repeat. (It's also important you do not go over the required 50 cars or the achievement will not unlock and you'll have to restart.)

The tracker will go up 2% each time you do this but won't actually show on the tracker until you finally sell it.

This is by far the quickest and easiest way to get this done.

Although the tracker doesn't update you can check your progress from the main menu by going to the 'extras' section and looking for 'sold fixed cars' The achievement will unlock once this hits 50

To complete this achievement, you need to buy a car from a junkyard, barn or auction.
Completely disassemble the car and reassemble it, but with 100% parts (either buy or repair), use a welding machine to restore the frame, replace the exterior, and ALSO BE SURE to clean it.
Ultimately, for progress to be counted, all 4 parameters must be marked at 100% (frame, interior, body, parts).

22 Jan 2022 14:11

Cars with a 100% status in each of the 4 categories (parts, frame, interior, body) are counted.
There is no need to align the wheels, add oil or other fluids.
Progress can be viewed in the main menu - additionally - car restored.

I recommend restoring electric cars purchased at auction; in my opinion, they have the fewest parts; if you have a lot of money, you can buy several complete sets of spare parts. Completely disassemble one car and add all the parts to your shopping list in alphabetical order.
