How to unlock the Miner achievement in Disney Dreamlight Valley - Definitive Guide

The gray rocks you see in every biome on the ground are not the ones you need. The dreamlight challenge only shows an uptick on the tracker when you receive gems from the black rocks, not the action of mining them. (Thanks to Fuzzmeister J)

The fastest way to do this now is in the mineshaft located in Sunlit Plateau, you are guaranteed at least to get something every time, the Sapphieres count too. There are roughly 10 rocks in a circle that will basically respawn faster than you can mine them. (Thanks to Mike, Vok, Tinus, and others in the comments.)

I kept track of the last 818 gems that I needed for this achievement. It took me 2,139 mining nodes, for a success rate of about 38.24% (818/2139). This data isn't perfect since it includes the nodes with gems already showing (which are obviously a 100% success rate for that node) and nodes that shoot out random amounts of gems/stones/coal (meaning possibly more than one gem obtained for that given node), so both of these things skewed my calculated success rate a bit higher. This should give a good general sense of the amount of mining nodes it will take to get this achievement though, which would be somewhere around 4,700 nodes to obtain the 1,800 gems needed (1800/0.3824). If you are planning on grinding this achievement specifically, I would recommend keeping the well fed buff up as much as possible for the increased movement speed.

Not necessary to improve the solution, but something cool to add would be the locations where you can find each of the gems.

Also, does anyone know if mining the stone/ice/coral "rocks" counts for increasing this achievement progress? Or is it just the mining nodes where gems can spawn?

I’m going to work on getting the locations and upload pictures for each one tonight!

I’ll also check on ice coral, I’m assuming they do count as they are using the mining action.

I’ll test this tonight as well!

My tracker only progresses when I make progress in the "Mine Minerals" dreamlight challenge. That leads me to believe that you need 1800 minerals and not just coal/iron. That would make this much slower.

Fuzzmeister I believe you are correct, I just tried checked this and my tracker as well only moved with the black mineral rocks. I'll adjust the solution to reflect that for now.

Maybe an addition. Could you make clear what exactly raises the counter. Is it the action itself by fully mining the node or is it picking up a certain mineral by mining it yourself. Like gems. Does coal count towards it and so on. I still have no idea yet.

The tracker doesn't seem to be working correctly for me on almost any of this games' achievements. For instance, I've harvested over 10,000 tomatoes and pumpkins but the tracker is only showing me at 44%.

I've made way over 2 million star coins in the game but my Banker achievement is only showing me at 25% of the 1.8 million needed.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Hey ICE!

Make sure you are redeeming the actual challenge in the dreamlight menu.

It won't reflect on the tracker until you claim each one I believe.

You're correct, every achievement is linked to the Dreamlight challenges and the tracker should go up each time you claim a previous level.

And as mentioned, it's only mining gems that counts. This will be one of the longest achievements to get because of that.

Ok, I see. I'm always redeeming my dreamlight challenges. I just didn't realize the tracker wouldn't move at all until you redeem one. That stinks. I like to see constant movement of my hard work, haha

The gems dropped by companions don't count, but in the rare instance that you mine a node and a bunch of gems/stones/coal shoot out (the ones highlighted in orange that disappear after a few seconds) I can confirm that those ones DO count. I started a session with 843, got one on my first node (844), and then got 3 on my next node (one for the one I actually mined, 2 additional that I picked up) bringing me to 847.

This has been made a bit easier with the update thankfully. In the new area (no spoilers) all of the minable nodes count as a mineral. Also can confirm that the orange gems that explode from the rock occasionally do all count when you collect them.

Those specific challenges are not needed for this achievement. The emeralds in the mine count as a mineral. No need to do different kind of minerals from different biomes.

The fastest way to do this now is in the mine in sunlight, you are guaranteed at least to get something every time, the crystal (forgot the name) counts too. And there is like 10 rocks in there.

I made sure it counted by checking the in game tracker, still a grind but a lot less than running around every area hoping.

I have a companion with me inside the cave, and the "Mine Minerals" tracker still only goes up by 1 for every rock that I mine, despite my friend dropping an extra. So does having the companion even help?

By Lonsta DaMonsta on 21 Nov 2022 20:42
Yeah the bonus gems that companions drop don't count towards progress, but from my anecdotal testing the resource nodes seem to drop loot with better odds when using a companion. I've yet to have the time to do a scientific test counting drops with a good sample size.

Worst case scenario: None of the companion buffs count towards progress, but you're at least getting extra loot that you can sell for profit. Might as well maximize seeing as you are grinding the mines anyway.

HUN playmore its called "Mine Minerals." I've also found that it does not quite respawn as fast as you can mine them, but you can just go hit the rock spots outside of the mine in the Sunlit Plateau and go back to the mine and they'll have respawned.

The mine is definitely enough of a game changer to warrant updating this solution. It's a literal circle with nodes that respawn faster than you can mine them.

Also not mentioned in the solution: You can stack the companion boosts by having multiple lvl 10 companions with the mining perk. As this is the only cheevo tied to those perks in a grindy way, it's worth boosting it with an uneven spread of perks across followers. You can always even it out later when more characters are added to the game.

I'm not 100% on the mechanics, but I've noticed a significant increase in progress when using a companion and boosting the heck out of the mining perk. Nodes seem to drop more stuff and trigger the orange loot events more often.

So the companion extra drops that are highlighted in blue do not count toward the achievement, but the random event where a ton of minerals spawn and are highlighted in orange do count toward the achievement. When you see that pop, get as many as you can.
