To unlock the farm (the area above the village, up and to the left side) you first must get the villager Aubrey.
Aubrey and is brown and pink deer wearing a red flannel and blue jeans. They are found in the inn.
Whiles it’s random to come across Aubrey since other villagers can show up, there is a set amount of mile stones to do first.
Plant 15 trees
Plant 10 flowers
10 days have passed
Rosa's store unlocked
Fishing unlocked
Decorate the village
These must be done first before Aubrey will show up.
After doing this, and harvesting your first few crops you can go to the Inn and talk to Oma. There she will begin to request ingredients for recipes.
After doing 10 requests you get the expansion to the farm and get the achievement

No, you don't have to do the requests. i only completed 3 requests by the time I harvested 120 crops and talking to Aubrey at the 120 mark instantly opened the back of the farm for the achievement.

Weird spawning issue for Aubrey, I needed to place two benches and a craftable flower pot near the inn for her to spawn during the day. Not sure if this was due to me selling items in the environment when I wasn't supposed to, but I thought I would share this tidbit after much confusion.

After unlocking the ability to farm, you simply have to harvest 120 crops of any kind then speak to Aubrey. They'll offer to open the gate at the back of the farm, and that'll unlock the achievement!
