How to unlock the Oakenshield achievement in Kingdom Rush Frontiers - Definitive Guide
On the Dark Descent level you will have pre built dwarven barracks (2 ranged and 1 melee). I upgraded their health regen to the max, but did not touch their armor in the beginning. I kept the Dwarf Hero behind them and built a regular guard barracks behind the hero as back up. I did not upgrade the dwarf gun towers, nor did I build any support towers on the lower level.
The trick is to let the dwarf soldiers fight and get wounded as much early on as possible. That’s why you don’t want to upgrade their armor right away. When the Saurian Myrmidons show up you want to keep your eye on the dwarves health and move them behind the dwarf hero and guard barracks so they don’t die - you can give them some armor at this point. Then rally them back to the front line once they’re healed. When the Saurian Blazefangs (ranged guys) show up, you can let the dwarves get shot a bit, but be careful for the insta kill chance. Same thing, move them out of range when health is low and use meteors and reinforcements if necessary. The achievement unlocked for me as soon as the first Saurian Brute showed up on wave 10 (dual whip guys). Even with max armor they will shred the dwarves (I think the whips ignore armor not sure), so let them get hit once or twice and move them away immediately. That will be a full health bar regen. This is still mid way on in the level, before too many enemies show up and you can’t hide anywhere. Get the achievement out of the way before it becomes too unpredictable.
I’m not sure if the hero Dierdre healing them counts, as it may have to be the natural dwarf regen. I put her down there once or twice and it still unlocked just fine.
Put the level on casual difficulty and focus entirely on the dwarves health. Upgrade the top level as much as you can so you don’t have to worry about it so much. Once again, leave the bottom level without upgrades so you can let the dwarves scrap with the easy enemies as much as possible before the heavy hitters start showing up in big numbers. Got it my first try so this method worked good for me.
Sure, you can just level everything up and put towers everywhere and hope for the best, but you may not get 500 health regen and the dwarves can easily die once it gets really chaotic. You can barely see them or their health towards the end.
