How to unlock the Thirst for Knowledge achievement in Legend of Mana - Definitive Guide
The Encyclopedia is broken up into a few sections, and some of them you need to get from various NPCs. Most of them are given naturally while following the walkthrough in the Road Map, and it mentions the others multiple times, so you should have no issue getting all these. The "Characters" book is missable and must be received prior to completing Quest 67 (which is the second to last quest, so you have the entire game to get it). The "Equipment" book is much more missable and must be obtained prior to Quest 14, but again this is mentioned repeatedly in the walkthrough.
Now that we've got how to get all the books out of the way, on to filling them all in! There are only two permanently missable things for this achievement, one character and one enemy. I'll outline them below.
Now that we've got how to get all the books out of the way, on to filling them all in! There are only two permanently missable things for this achievement, one character and one enemy. I'll outline them below.
- Characters: There are 79 entries here, all of which will fill in naturally by following the walkthrough, EXCEPT Alex who works in the Gem shop in Geo. To get this entry, you must speak to him in Geo outside of a quest. He will have some short dialogue and then offer his wares for sale. If you've never tried to purchase from him, he has not been added to your encyclopedia!
- Lands: All of these will be added naturally while following the walkthrough.
- Artifacts: All of these will be added naturally while following the walkthrough.
- Items: Thankfully, this does not mean finding every type of item in the game, just one item from each specific category. There are multiple types of "meat" for instance, but any of them will satisfy that entry. You should have no issue getting this naturally.
- Equipment: Similar to items, you only need one from each category for this. You may need to purchase the magical instruments to get credit for those since they aren't required for any other achievement.
- Monsters: So long as you do not turn off enemy encounters while playing through each area, you should not miss any of these, but the only one permanently missable is an optional boss called Death Bringer II. This has its own section of the walkthrough and there is a second mention of it just before the chance to kill it expires as well.
- Produce: You'll get these while going for Ardent Agriculturalist (60G).
- World History: All of these will be added naturally while following the walkthrough.
- Basic Golemology: All of these will be added naturally while following the walkthrough.
- Techniques: You'll get these while going for Master-at-Arms (60G).
Before going off on Quest 68: Legend of Mana, make sure there is only one missing entry in all of these sections, which is tied to the final boss. You *might* have a second missing entry (#43: Punkster, which can be found in the Junkyard but also can be killed in the Mana Tree during the final quest as well). Now, there is a trick to actually unlocking this achievement after defeating the final boss to get the Monster entry. You must view your Encyclopedia for the achievement to unlock, so upon completing the game and saving your game, load your clear save file, plant your Mailbox to create the Home location, then check the bookshelf in the room downstairs to finally unlock this achievement. Be sure to get No Hope for the Future (40G) right after as well, which should be your final achievement!

You need to collect all the encyclopedias and fill them out:
1. Characters (go through all 67 quests and meet everyone)
2. Lands (we do quests, get artifacts and place them on the map, there are 27 of them in total)
3. Artifacts (we do quests and get 1-2 artifacts for each)
4. Items - this volume can be received as a gift from Jennifer in Domina if you talk to her on a non-working day. Jennifer does not work on odd days, that is, on the days of Ondine, Aura and Djinn. These days you can find it at the market.
5. Equipment - this volume can be received as a gift from Mark in Domina if you talk to him on a non-working day. Mark does not work on even days, that is, on the days of the Salamander, the Dwarf and the Dryad. These days you can find him at home - in the same building as Mark and Jennifer's store.
6. Monsters - we kill everyone at our party and the book will be filled. The only boss that is encountered without the Deathbringer II quest is in the same place where you beat Deathbringer and Jajara, in
7. Product - the volume is given by Reverend Nouvelle in the Church of Domina, if you ask him four questions in succession: “Ask about the town”, “Townsmen”, “Others”, “Meimei”.
8. World History - volume obtained during quest 62. The Seven Wisdoms. Apparently, Bud fills it out under the impression of the stories of the sages. After meeting each of the sages, 12 chapters are added to the History of the World, so that after completing the quest there should be 72 of them.
9. Basic Golemology - Professor Bomb will give it to you during quest 55. Golem Go Make 'em After reading the encyclopedia, there will even be a short exam on it.
10. Techniques - Initially it is empty, but with each technique learned, new entries appear in it.
11. The Forbidden Tome - Given after the first completion of the game. Actually, there is no text in this volume; it is needed only to switch between game difficulty levels - normal, difficult and impossible.
Once you fill everything out, look at your library at home (the door on the right in Home) and the trophy will fall out.

The Deathbringer II must be killed immediately after The Ghost of Nemesis quest. If you complete the quest chain in the dragon arc, this boss will not appear, and you will have to finish him off in NG+

Please note that the Equipment volume will become inaccessible after starting The Lost Princess quest. Mark will be in his daughter’s room and there will be no necessary dialogue. It's better to get it right away when you first visit Domina.
It is better to kill the Deathbringer II boss immediately after killing Deathbringer (The Ghost of Nemesis quest). Just return there and treat the robbers with candy. Later this boss will not exist (as Lomax wrote) and you will have to go through the game again.
