Swapping letters occurs when you press and it replaces all of your letters with new letters. It also skips your turn, so bear that in mind if you want to replace all your tiles with new ones. Also be aware that swapping tiles doesn't remove special tiles such as poison, plague, spike, etc.

You probably won't need to do this very often as long as you keep your vowels and consonants pretty balanced while playing. If you don't get this naturally or while going for other achievements (see "Close Call" achievement description), go to level 1 in story mode and just press every time it's your turn. You'll get 50 swaps well before the monster can defeat you.
