How to unlock the No Point in Dying achievement in LIMBO - Definitive Guide

Pretty much self explanatory. You can only die five times in a single sitting, without saving and then resuming later.

Don't worry, this game is actually quite easy once you know how to solve all of the puzzles. And a single play-through will only take you about 45 to 60 minutes. I would suggest practicing through the chapters that you know you have trouble on, and keep repeating them until you can get it right almost every time. That way you won't go 3/4 of a play-through flawlessly only to die five times at a single point.

The last few gravity based chapters are particularly more challenging, as you have to get them right the first time or else you'll die, so make sure you got a solid rhythm down. Again, practice, practice, practice those challenging chapters before you start a play-through. It will save you much frustration later.

My last advice; if you die before you kill the spider, go ahead and restart. It doesn't take you long to get there and you'll want to have those extra lives. Once you get towards the middle of the game though, keep going until you die six times. Even if you're at five deaths and you're certain you won't make it, the practice is still good. Besides, you might get lucky.

Well, good luck!

Stick with the solutions for the 360 version guys. Downvote from me.

There is hints to a degree. Advice more than anything. Which I welcomed. So no down vote from me, but no upvote, unless I nail it. But 104 deaths from my achievement run doesn't bode well. Great game though.

So I would assume that there arent any awesome exploits? Like just loading the last chapter and making it to the end of it w/ 5 or less deaths? The timing in some areas can be excruciatingly difficult.

That fucking neon H has stopped me twice. I can get through the whole game without dying once, except for that fucking part.

H is officially my least favorite letter.

the very last gravity puzzle ruined 2 of my runs... even after practicing the part a couple of times. facepalm

HOWEVER... it's easy to find the "perfect" timing or at least give you a pretty good change, but i believe no video shows this method... so i decided to write this comment: Wait until the gravity turns to normal and stand at the left ledge. Now wait until the gravity changes again and immediately run to the right and jump. Using a fixed running disctance is better than waiting or counting down. Of course you still have to practice this part to find the correct position, but afterwards this part shouldn't be a longer problem.

I recommend using the jump animation to time your delayed actions in the HOTEL sign and gravity puzzle areas. It's a great built in way to always keep the same rhythm.

Jumping works wonders for timing the second box in chapter 25 too. Hit the leftmost switch on the floor, jump, walk at 100% speed towards the rightmost switch. Walk at 100% speed back to the left of the left box, push the box to the right at 100% speed. Ease up just as the second box falls. Leave them both right there and climb up, jump, mantle.

That jump makes everything else very natural. It chews up the perfect amount of time.

I've got most of this down. Had my 6th death of the run at the last saw right before the final jump. Embarassingly enough I died twice to walking off the edge when I had to climb over a rotating cog where you have a parasite in your head. Also, the saw in the dark section is often giving me trouble as well. Same with the second Hotel sign. The best you can do is practice, try, and practice more on your weakspots should you fail.

I died for the 5th AND 6th time at the exact same place as FQX. The checkpoint leave you at the bottom of the saw before the final bit, as much as i practised it that was new to me. However, I did this on a work lunch break (49 mins to this point, not too bad). I feel confident that in 1-2 attempts I can get to the gravity puzzles without a single death (i had 2 on this attempt.)

Got this with one life left. All my deaths were in places that weren't difficult at all. They were due to me being over confident and rushing in places that I thought I had down. Take your time with every instance that you can die.

For those that wondered the same things I did:

Do you need to get the eggs or do the secret level? No

Can you pause? Yes, briefly. Be mindful not to let it be long enough that the Xbox goes to sleep. That would require loading a save and thus isn't the same "sitting".

Since this is leaving game pass soon, I guess I'll have to finally get going on this, as this achievement is what kept me from really starting this game. I just hope my controller doesn't wind up in multiple areas of the room 😁

Edit: I highly recommend following a video guide for this. The text guide here works well, but seeing the timing and such made a huge difference for me. I used a guide by a YouTuber named Badinfos, but I reckon any will do.

Video guides for puzzles until they are learned is a great help too, but I've found not doing so means I can find alternative methods or navigation (particularly in gravity rooms) that work for me naturally just by doing. My first run deaths was 160, but only 186 total means I'm either getting better or not going back through those sections enough, lol

By SageTHeCrow on 30 Jun 2023 04:23
@sage You do not need to grab the collectibles in this low-death run; they all have their own separate achievements. You could unlock all the achievements in one playthrough, but it's not necessary and much easier to do in two separate runs. It's unlikely you'd get this achievement in a first playthrough, so I would recommend getting collectibles in that first run

Best tip I can offer is that it's much easier if you own this on 360 as well. Fire them both up and use whichever system you aren't going for the achievement on as practice when you reach a section you aren't sure of on the platform you're going for the achievement on. Very simple this way.

I found the gravity puzzles quiet easy (sound clues make it easy) except the very last one! One tip!
If you reach the very last puzzle and have 1 or more lives you can use this! If you fail the game reload and place you upside down the platform every time. All you have to do is run to the edge and STOP only for a brief moment, then fall off the edge! Practice this via "Load Chapter" and if you fail the first one with this trick you made it anyways!
I made it with this and used all my life! rock

Also, just as a tip for all games, and those who just want to leave their console on for long amounts of time, you can change it in your settings so that the console never powers off for inactivity. And you can also roll back the things that pop up and scroll through, (not sure what they're called) so they don't show up until 60 minutes of inactivity, but you cannot disable them. They won't mess with your game though and you can pause the game and come back 7 hours later (or however long you need to) and you are right back where you left off.

Some lessons learned from my runs:
-Best tip is to just leave a video walkthrough open. If you can't visualize exactly what any given puzzle is, just stop and check. If your walkthrough also includes the easter eggs, ignore them.
-Don't try to save time by watching a video and running to the right through "flat" areas. You will eventually accidentally die.
-Definitely practice the last five chapters until you have them down perfectly. I personally wrote down timing notes that I could consistently follow in my head at these sections.
-Remember if you are following a video guide, that these puzzles are physics-based and sometimes require giving an object MOMENTUM, such as pushing the cart in Chapter 31

Problem areas for me:
-The Chapter 5 spider will quick-strike at you after you destroy his second leg
-Chapter 21 - the timing to hit the neon H. Also, approach the power switch slowly - it killed me once.
-Chapter 24 (I think) - the seesaw beam jump.
-Chapter 25 - Timing the second box drop. I noted the forward position of the saw at about halfway between the two visible beams under the ledge you are jumping up to.
-Chapter 31 - Pushing the cart and crossing the electrified panel. Also, the chain jump following it.
-The final 5 chapters.

Hi,

this solution is meant as an addition to the solution of Eterna1 Soldier. He gave some good hints in his solution which make your life definitaly easier if you want to go for this.

The trick to get this achievement is to memorize the hard parts. I used the videos below myself to get this achievement and with the help of them I got my achievements for the 360 and the One in just two days with no more than 5 retries for each version.
So just refer to them and use them step by step until you know what you do. I.e. watch a few minutes of the video and than reproduce what he did step by step and you will be fine. Also read the tips he is giving you in the videos. He usually points out what to do in particular for most of the hard parts.

So here are the most important things summarized as mentioned by ApatheticCobra in his guide for this achievement in the 360 version of the game:

1. A flawless playthrough will only take roughly between 60-90 minutes (this does not take into account the time you need to watch the videos, though)

2. If you die before chapter 10 just restart the game. All the puzzles and traps are pretty straight forward and are easy to avoid once you know what to do. Also you are only 15-20 minutes in the game so it's not too bad to restart from this point

3. If you die in later chapters do not get discouraged. You are allowed to die 5 times and you should use your lifes. When I was going for this on the One I had only 1 Life left, so do not get frustrated and do your best to survive. You are too deep in to surrender now!

4. Practice the later chapters beforehand via chapter select to avoid replaying the first half of the game over and over again just to get killed in the gravity sections of the game. Also, if you know that you have problems with particular parts especially practice them in advance, too.

Good luck ;-)

The videos are not mine. All credit goes to ApatheticCobra
Any improvements? Please let me know in the comments!

hi, I am glad those videos could help you, too. Especially at the end with all the gravity parts I found them crucial to survival, just because I could memorize the timing of the guy in the video to copy exactly what he did. Personally, for me the hardest part was to stack the crates just to jump over the moving buzzsaw. I think I messed this part up like 10 times :-D After that it got easier for me :-D

Fucking incredible guide man!! Took me about 4 full goes through, I get rather impatient so I started making some stupid mistakes, so I left it for a couple days!! Came back to today, made one silly mistake where you have to lower the boxes to get the water level right in order to jump across the boxes! Apart from that, I only died on the very last jump, and with my last life I fucking made and let out an bellowing, "YESSS, GET IN"!! Cheers man, thumbs up from me!

Die 5 times or less, probably should be your 2nd or 3rd run through the game so you're familiar with the puzzles. Hardest part is the gravity puzzle at the very end of the game, so definitely practice that last 1-2 minutes before you go for this to avoid frustration. My video is 1.5x normal speed and has been placed to a soundtrack since the game is so quiet. It shows all eggs and No Point in Dying in one go, with timestamps for all the eggs in the video description.

Since there's no tricks to get this outta way of a 100% completion, the only way is to knock it off is with some skill. Here's my 2 cents of advice:

1- Get the other 12 achievements done before attempting this one. For one, it will motivate you more. Besides, only one of them is somewhat challenging. For two, you won't be distracted nor worry about collecting eggs or anything else;

2- If you don't want to spend time practicing the last levels for an unknown amount of time, I suggest you start a new game and see how far you can get without dying once. When you die, write down what level it was and what was it from. This will help greatly in avoiding the same mistakes;

3- Keep progressing until you die 6 times. Now you have parameters to replay specific levels if you want and also can set a goal to reach that same area with less deaths than the previous time until you can beat the whole game with only the 5 or less. Another good advice is to pause the game every once in a while and see on chapter select what lies ahead to exercise your memory.

If you have no patience for methods like the above, I'd suggest you watch the video below (I got it from Youtube, don't own it) 1 minute at a time (so, in about 60 little parts) and try to follow the example to succeed.

You have to start a New Game and finish all levels without quitting AND not die more than 5 times.

This is what I did for the Xbox 360, Xbox One and now the Steam versions. I will be doing the Windows 10 version soon also.

Finish the game normally, dying as many times as you want. Then keep practicing the later levels gradually from end to middle. As in, start with the last level, practice it a few times to get it perfect. Then start the next to last level and finish the game from there to get it perfect. Then keep going backward each level and finishing the game from there. You'll get competent enough to where you can start a new game and complete the game with maybe a few deaths, but as long as you have 5 or less, you're good!

Most people usually leave this achievement for last, after getting all the hidden eggs and such. You do not need any hidden eggs to get this achievement.

The trophy is not as difficult as it might seem.
Difficulty can be caused by traps in chapters: 21, 23, 25 and the ending from chapters 36 to 39.
You will remember the rest of the traps/puzzles from your first two playthroughs of the game.
1 passage - familiarization with the game and enjoying it.
2nd passage - collecting or collecting the remaining eggs.
I strongly recommend that you practice each of the above chapters and learn the pitfalls in them:
Chapter 21 - passing through the neon letters of the hotel (switching timing is quite long).
Chapter 23 - saw jump using one box
Chapter 25 - saw jump using two boxes (placed vertically on top of each other)
Chapters 36-39 - an ending in which difficulty will be caused by another neon letter (switching timing is faster than in chapter 21) and an endless change of gravity. The final jump in the game is quite simple to perform: you just need to jump forward upward onto the gravity switch arrow so that you fly above it, and in the subsequent gravity change when falling down, clicking on the gravity arrow will direct you to the right to the final location of the game. The jump is made a couple of seconds after the gravity change, when you are standing upside down.
2-3 attempts and the trophy is yours. The main thing is not to interrupt the passage of the game if you happen to die at the very beginning - this will give you additional training.

A second playthrough is not necessary; eggs can be collected (before collecting) through chapter selection.
According to the passage itself with no more than 5 deaths, there are several nasty places where it is especially easy to die, namely:
- neon letters - you need to jump on the letter N while the neon is still burning;
- jumping over the cutting disc using a box, also with a worm. Here the tactics are as follows: stepping on the lever that starts the mechanism, we slow down until the box falls and the disk moves closer, then you need to have time to climb onto the box and jump over the disk. Another difficulty is that before this we ran for a minute and a half in a relaxed state, but here you need to pull yourself together as much as possible;
- jumping over the cutting disc using two boxes - there are two buttons, each of which opens the manipulator that holds the box. The difference in pressure should be approximately 3-4 seconds, then grab the first box and pull it to the second, which should fall on the first. Then we climb onto them and jump onto the ledge;
- at the end of the game we will again encounter neon letters. The difficulty is that there is no time to think for a long time - a cutting disk is approaching us and the second one needs to switch gravity in flight. This requires practice and, as in the first case with neon letters, you need to jump while the neon is still burning;
- as you go through the letters and almost until the end of the game - this is approximately 3-4 minutes of game time. This also requires practice; there are a couple of nasty moments where you need to figure out how to get the gravity to change during flight.
In other places you can die, but it’s more from excitement, lack of attention, or simply by accident.
Another piece of advice, if after 10 attempts you haven’t succeeded in knocking it out, and the number of deaths is growing and you die in the most ordinary places, where it would seem that you have to try harder to die, put off the game for not a day or two, but a week or two, and come back to it later.
I myself got through 4-5 complete playthroughs, not counting the first one, when I was getting acquainted with the game, and there were still 3-4 playthroughs when I started the game from the beginning before reaching the credits.

On PS4 you can pause it and send it to sleep. If you don’t have time to go through it in one go. But the most important thing is to take your time! When I tried to get this trophy, I died where I had passed before.
