How to unlock the The Last Step achievement in Lords of the Fallen - Definitive Guide

This quest can ONLY be completed is doing the Umbral ending.

I will Refer to the Iron Wayfarer to Iron to shorten things down

Rest at a Vestige past step 2 to ensure it continues on with the Iron's Questline.
This Quest also has 2 Umbral Imprint needed for the Lingering Moments Achievement I will Mention those when i can so you don't miss these 2 needing to do his quest again if missed.
This Quest also has the Surrender Gesture needed for all Gestures Cheevo

Step 1 - To start this quest at the start of the game just after the boss fight you must use your lamp to cross a platform in the umbral world you will find Iron in front of you, talk to him to proceed.

Step 2 - Whilst making your way to Skyreach (Main hub) just before the Pieta boss battle you will find Iron in front of you exhaust his dialog (this is where he teaches you about vestige seeds).

Step 3 - Progress until you reach the Forsaken Fen Vestige. You will progress through the gate way, over the small wooden bridge and continue following the lit area, in front of you shall be a big tree branch (this is a shortcut leading to a vestige) run past the tree branch, then past the bonfire taking the bridge that is lit up by torches, from that point run straight forward through the Torch lit door way and hug the wall to the right as the wall curves round Iron should be in front of you, exhaust his dialog.

Step 4 - Iron will now move to the Alehouse Vestige (Vestige of Lydia the Numb Witch) from using this vestige turn around, drop down and run forward into the door way then knock down the ladder on the right, take the ladder down and hug the left wall (wall with the 2 hellhounds next to hit) follow the wall round after going down a couple of steps Iron should be in front of you once again exhaust his dialog.

Step 5 - Proceed to Upper Calrath while going through this area you will encounter Iron once again in the middle of your path and he is very hard to miss if you have spoken to him in the other areas, exhaust his dialog and move on to the next step (might as well grab the umbral imprint while you are there that is infront of him).

Step 6 - Rest at a Vestige and he will move once again this time he is near the shortcut back to Skyreach near the Pieta boss arena, Take then shortcut and at the drop down/ladder Iron will be in the room in front of you on the left, Exhaust his dialog (If you did the steps right) if he is not then repeat step 5 and grab the umbral imprint as well. The newly spawned Umbral Imprint is quest locked so grab that in this playthrough as well to prevent having to go back.

Step 7 - Rest at a vestige and proceed through the game. If the previously step were done correctly Iron will now be stood on your path towards Manse of the Hollowed brother just past the Vestige of Ferres The Charred. Once again exhaust his dialog and REST AT A VESTIGE this is the most important once.

Step 8 - Progress though the Abbey of Hallowed Sister and when you get the the boss room for Rapturous Huntress of the Dusk, Interact with the Rune of Adyr on the Alter and during the cutscene/fight Iron should appear in the cutscene/help you out in the fight (YOU DO NOT NEED TO DIE TO SUMMOM HIM THIS IS AUTOMATICALLY HAPPENES) if he has not appeared you have failed his quest and will need to start again so make sure you have done all his step prior to this, at then end of this fight Iron will then steal the Rune of Adyr.

Step 9 - After the previous fight Upper Calrath will be blocked, to get back to it you must go the shortcut way near the Pieta boss fight, at the end of Upper Calrath you will fight Iron and he will drop you the Rune of Adyr this time. (This is a main boss and he is always here no matter the ending) DO NOT USE THE RUNE TO UNLOCK BRAMIS CASTLE.

Step 10 - Take your newly acquired Rune to Mother's Lull (If following the umbral ending this area should be unlocked at the bottom of Revelation Depths), Interact with Petrified Ghoul and chose the option "Hand over Rune of Adyr" this will give you the Untethered Rune of Adyr" if following a guide Umbral ending you will have to do this next step anyway

Step 11 - Take the Rune to Iron located on a cliff side in the Fief of the Chill Curse, from the Fief Vestige go up the 2 sets of ladders and follow the path you will reach a locked gate with a Kinrangr Hunter (Bow) enemy and a few dogs, go up the ladder and enter umbral Iron should be in front of you on the Cliff edge.

Step 12 - Talk to him to receive the gesture and exhaust his dialog once you get the option to use the rune, use it and then if done correctly you shall receive Iron's armour and you achievement should pop for you

The Missable Umbral Imprint will be located on the stairs near Pieta boss room, Run from skyreach into Pieta boss room, Enter umbral and run towrads upper Calrath before the shortcut infront of you at the top of the stairs will be an Umbral Imprint of Iron interact with this to get the very missable unbral Stigma (This was the last one i needed for the all Umbral Stigma Achievement and my 100%).

Hmm. I did an Umbral ending playthrough and spoke to him in Umbral at Fief, I think it prompted me to use a seedpod on him, though.
I don't have his armor and the Achievement didn't unlock for me, but I did do the Umbral ending. I think I did something in the wrong order.

Its missable if you go to fief and manse/abbey/tower without bothering with upper calrath B

Step 6 didn't work for me, then I ran from near the depths elevator after the Skinstealer Vestige all the way to Skyrest. Rested then ran back and he was there in the shortcut to Skyridge area. A new imprint in Umbral was right by him, too. I guess of to the Revelation Depths and then use the Bellroom Key.

The last step when you use the Withered Rune of Adyr may not pop off the quest Achievement at first.
I got the Gesture Achievement after Umbral with him in Fief and then had to QUIT OUT immediately. Loaded back up and his gear was there.
Hope this helps someone!

So this cancels Byron's quest as you need to use the elevator to upper calrath early, right?

I never met him in upper calrath that's why I am asking. Last time I met him in both my radiant and infernal runs was in lower calrath, step 4 in your guide.

I spoke to him at the fief and he gave me his gesture. Then i used the rune and the achievement didn't complete neither he gave me his armour.

Edit: its a bug. I used the cloud save trick to remedy this. He dropped his armour set after 4 reloads from cloud and got the achievement. So you maybe need to write in your guide that players must not proceed to the fief and manse/abbey/tower before upper calrath B and also they need to make a cloud save before killing him with the rune.

Another important thing that indicates that you are doing this right is that he will use inferno magic in the boss fight instead of umbral.

**Missable**

To unlock this trophy, you need to talk to The Iron Wayfarer at every point that you meet him. And there are also a couple of errands you need to run in between – these are in bold. Do bear in mind, though, that you can only complete this quest if you are going for the Umbral Ending – and thus trying to unlock Back to the Void trophy_silver.png – so make it part of that playthrough.

Here are the locations where you will find him:
  • Defiled Sepulchre
  • Skyrest Bridge, before the bossfight with Pieta
  • Forsaken Fen
  • Lower Calrath
  • Upper Calrath, hallway in front of the Umbral Stigma, rest after to make him move on
  • Upper Calrath, near the ladder to the tower, also Soulflay his Umbral Stigma
  • Manse of the Hallowed Brothers, main path
  • Acquire the Rune of Adyr in the Abbey of the Hallowed Sisters.
  • Upper Calrath, fight and defeat him near the rooted gate
  • Go to Mothers’s Lull and speak to the Umbral entity, exchange the Rune of Adyr for the Withered Rune of Adyr.
  • Fief of the Chill Curse, in Umbral, talk to him and use the Withered Rune of Adyr on him.
Once you have completed these steps, The Iron Wayfarer’s quest will be complete, and this trophy will unlock.

The last point will only be possible on the way to the Umbral ending.
Meetings with him:
1. Right by the Campfire Village .
2. In the cave where you can plant a seed in front of the Pietta boss.
3. Location Forsaken Fen , it can only be seen in the astral plane (see video).
4. Standing with your back to the Alehouse fire, we run straight, go down the stairs on the right, run across the stone bridge, it is on the left after the bridge.
5. Upper Calrath, we follow the plot, he will stand in a tunnel-like passage, we also look at the stigma there.
6. We rest so that he can move. He will appear on the shortcut section from the hub in Upper Calrath.
7. Not far from the Pathway bonfire.
8. If you talk to him in all places, he will appear at the boss fight in Abbey of the Hallowed Sisters .
9. After this, a new stigma will appear along the shortcut path from the hub in Upper Calrath.
10. Kill him in front of the gate of Bramis Castle .
11. Having Withered Rune of Adyr with us, we run from the Fief bonfire as in the plot, when we climb over the wall using the stairs (there is also an archer and dogs) we go to the astral plane, he will be standing at the cliff. We use Withered Rune of Adyr on it.
