How to unlock the Bruiser achievement in Mass Effect Legendary Edition - Definitive Guide

Edit:
Some people do seem to have been able to unlock this in Mass effect 1 now but it still seems pretty buggy. There have been a few patches since I unlocked this so can’t go back and check how well it’s working now. Some of the trackers seem to reset themselves occasionally so may be best to knock this out in one sitting

Despite what the achievement description says I don’t believe this can be earned in Mass Effect 1. I practically ended up doing a melee only run of the game trying to get the achievement there and got nothing. This also seemed to be confirmed when checking the extras section of the Mass effect 2 main menu (where you can view achievement trackers for some achievements) and it showed I had 0/100 towards this.
Luckily it can be done fairly simply in 2, just find an area where a lot of enemies will come, kill as many as possible and either reload your save or die. It keeps progress between deaths.
(I personally did mine in the section where you find Archangel, as part of the mission you’ll come to a door he asks you to seal to stop enemy reinforcements, instead of this I left the door open and kept bashing the infinitely respawning enemies. Took roughly 15 minutes)

I can't add guide so i add it here.

To get here, we need to start the Project Overlord mission on Aite. When two nodes are disabled, the main station will be unlocked to disable the enemy WI. At some point we come across three geths standing in place. Just jump out the window and kill them with caresses. I recommend that you set the difficulty level to the lowest.

yeah it's bugged. I've not finished ME1 yet, gotten many melee kills,, checked the tracker progress by going into ME2 because there's no tracker in ME1.. seen my melee kills, like 14 for example... played again the next day, got some more melee kills, checked the tracker again and the melee kills now show less than the 14 I had. This is after the may 17 update that supposedly fixed this exact issue. clearly it did not

Damn, so I just killed 120 poor monkeys on Eletania in ME1 for no reason lol.

Might just be a glitch, but get all 100 in the same playtime. I had 66 needed to go do real life stuff. Came back and it had reset to 0. I mean might have just been a thing but don't take any chances.

Where do you check the progress?

You can check the progress on the main menu of mass effect 2, there will be a section for achievements under the Extra section. Scroll a couple to the left and it will show progress there. For whatever reason this tracker isn’t shown whilst playing ME1.

Did all my 100 kills on the Reaper IFF mission on Mass Effect 2. The mission is full of those Husks from the start. Took me around 10 minutes to do all 100 and didn't even have to reload a save to repeat.

did this in ME2 and did exactly what OP said in Archangel mission, worked perfectly. I also just grinded out the Incineration Specialist achievement here at the same time (since a couple of them have armor sometimes)

I used the Reaper IFF mission as well. Loaded up a save and went straight for it. It took me until the final section until it popped. Important note: I never received any progress indicators for this achievment, which was annoying.

Another good spot is right at the end of the derelict Collector ship. There will be a group of 10-20 husks that will mob you. Just knock as many out as you can and reload the save.

On 6/12/21 the cheap shot to the monkeys in Attican Beta --> Hercules --> Eletania is
still working. I finished the series with 82 melee hits, grabbed a save from ME1 that had the system discovered, and whacked 18 monkeys. Achievement unlocked.

If you still need to finish this up by the time of the Cure the Genophage mission in ME3, there's a good spot literally right at the start of the mission to farm it with Husks.

The monkeys on Eletania are the easiest and the quickest way to get the Achievement, especially on higher difficulties.
Just kill the monkeys in a colony, reload a save and repeat. Takes 5-10 min and unlocked.

“the cheap shot to the monkeys in Attican Beta --> Hercules --> Eletania is still working.”

This is brilliant. Still works Aug 2021.
Knock out the 8 monkeys at a colony, reload saved game and do it all over again. Easy 10-15 min unlock.

You can also pair this with other abilities that require targets like Stasis and Nueral Shock super easy. (You can target the Mako and it counts 😉)

PS - it also unlocked without me ever beating ME1 or touching ME2 or ME3 yet. Cake.

I also got this with the monkeys a couple days ago, as mentioned in previous comments. I went to all 4 colonies twice and punched everything, reloaded and did 2 more and it unlocked.

“the cheap shot to the monkeys in Attican Beta --> Hercules --> Eletania is still working.”

This is still working as of Jan 2022, just save outside one of the monkey colonies, punch everything and reload smile rinse and repeat until the achievement unlocks.

Just unlocked this on ME1, did not use the Monkey glitch on Eletania. Just keep punching. FYI, shotguns and ARs do more melee damage

Got it fairly early in ME2. I certainly hadn't got 100 melee kills in that game at that point, so it must have carried some progress over from ME1.

Got it in the Armax Arena on the Silversun Strip. Selected Geth as my enemies, and just went crazy throwing punches.

Popped after 5 rounds (two seperate matches).

You can fast a lot in the mission to recovery aliance module.
You have 5 monkeys colonies and you can punch Everyone! and gain free 4 renegade ponis....

Got it in ME2 literally from the first enemy I melee'd to death as soon as it was possible in this game. I killed plenty on ME1.

The monkey planet/mission from Me1 works well.

I'd like to add that you can in fact get the 100 melee kills on ME1 just by killing the poor monkeys during the mission UNC: Lost Module on Eletania. I'm guessing the latest patch made it so. I did it all in one sitting that took maybe 5 minutes of re-loading my save.

I got this to pop in ME1, but I think there is definitely a bug with it. I've been killing every enemy in the game that I possibly could with melee so far. I just farmed the rest (or what I thought should be the rest) via re-loading a save next to some enemies and melee killing them, but I had to re-load it enough times to where I got exactly 100 kills because I counted them as I did it. So it seems like maybe it has to be done in one session for some reason, otherwise the game resets the progress.

I found a pretty quick way to get this in ME1, on the planet Chasca (Maroon Sea > Matano), in the middle of the map just above center, at the top of a mountain, you will find several (I think I counted 7) strange cow/fox looking creatures. They're a one hit kill and don't fight back, so save before you melee, reload, and repeat!

Mass Effect 2 - On Minos wastland, Fortis, there is a planet called Pietas. There's an anomaly there. Land and there's an infinite amount of husks. Just don't blow up the the blue sphere.

I call that blue sphere the Husk-o-Matic.

Real easy to do. When you first land on Eden prime. Move forward to near gas bags. Save game. Melee the 3 gas bags. Reload the save and melee the gas bags again. Rinse and repeat until you get achievement.

Just finished this on 9/20/2021

For the fastest and easiest way to earn this achievement, begin by starting the game as a vanguard on the easiest difficulty. After reaching the first mission off of Earth, attack the enemies as much as you can in melee combat. Since you have the tech armor, you wont have to worry about being killed. By the end of the mission, if you still need to kill more, head to the next priority mission on the moon above Palavin, then you will be able to kill the husks for an easy unlock.

Don't bother trying to melee enemies (especially if you are playing on Insanity, like I did from the start). You can easily get it if you find one of the Space Monkey colonies - there is one on Eletania in Hercules system, on south-eastern part of the map. Go there, exit Mako and save your game. Melee kill 10 monkeys (they die from one hit), reload and repeat. Kills are cumulative and carry over if you save and load. Reload 10 times and voila!

This achievement is cumulative across all three games in the series. To receive credit, the enemy must die from a melee attack. The monkey method I mentioned under Veteran (25G) is great for this as well. Each monkey will die in one hit and do not become hostile at any time, so you can save, kill 10, reload and repeat for a few minutes to unlock.

Don't try to complete the first part. Normal close combat in the third part.

Completed the first part. The main thing is to have time to run up at the right moment. Thorian Crawlers are the best choice.

First part, Hercules System, Betta Attica cluster, planet Eletania. Here the monkeys run in groups of 10 and die in one hit.

There is a planet called Ontarom in Mass Effect I. We're flying there. There are 6 spaceships walking near the mining site. These harmless creatures fly away with one hit (tested by me personally on the "Madness" difficulty). Killed 6 pieces - rebooted. And so on until you receive

In mass effect 2, in the story mission, there will be a lot of husks inside the dead reaper, which are quite easy to finish off in hand-to-hand combat, even on the “madness” difficulty level. The main thing is that the final blow must be made in melee, the remaining lives can be removed with weapons or skills.

In Mass Effect 2 you can get it at the very beginning, in the laboratory after the attack of the first robot we go up the stairs, there will be a room where after crouching for cover 1 robot will spawn from behind the door straight ahead and 4 from the left, even under their fire you can run and kill all five, then reboot and repeat until you get the trophy.

Warrior_13, I tried many times with saving: monkeys, space cows, and experimental subjects on Dr. Saleon’s ship (on Garrus’s instructions) - in the end, nothing. It seems that here you have to try to kill melee during the game without saving, which is what I do, or really only complete this task in parts 2 or 3.

It is best to knock out in part 2 on the mission in the dead reaper, as mentioned earlier, the main thing is to pick up a pistol, with it your melee attacks are 2 times faster, disable the use of skills from your partners so as not to interfere and change them as well weapons on pistols, so that the chance that they will finish off their enemies is lower, or give them something that is not so lethal and in a couple of sittings the trophy will be yours (there will be an autosave in front of the arena), or in the third part, download the stamina branch and finish off in close combat, very conveniently as an agent or stormtrooper due to their skills.
