How to unlock the Big Game Hunter achievement in Mass Effect Legendary Edition - Definitive Guide

This is done optionally during the Krogan's loyalty mission. After finishing 2 waves of enemies, you will need to fight a Thresher Maw.

To beat this part, you can either survive for 5 minutes or kill it. To unlock this achievement, you'll need to kill it.

I would recommend just playing on Casual difficulty and using whatever heavy weapon you have to blast it away. The Collecter Particle Beam melts it if you have it unlocked at this point in the game.

The Arc Projector gets no bonus against armour and is only strong against shields which the Tresher Maw doesn't have. On Normal I killed it in just over a minute with the Collector Particle Beam which melts armour.

Yeah, it's really up to you. Only said what i did because it finished off the Thresher Maw in under 30 seconds. Any heavy weapon on a low difficulty should make it a cakewalk

The only reason to not change difficulties is for the Insanity difficulty achievements. You are fine for everything else (and reloading your save is okay). Also, every achievement you can earn on normal in ME2, you can earn on easy.

I'm confused, so I'm going to ask clearly: If I'm playing on Insanity and don't want to void the related achievements, can I make a save, change the difficulty to kill the Thresher on Casual, then reload the Insanity save and still get the Insanity-related achievements?

Sin Cudi, that’s what I want to know as well. I’m gonna try and kill it once or twice on insanity and if I can’t I will just make a save and remember the slot and not overwrite it and then after beating the game on insanity go back and do this on easy.

You can do what Sin Cudi described. The Insanity II achievement was glitched where it wouldn't unlock at the end of ME2 regardless btw. You may need to best the final boss of ME1 again to pop that achievement.

I did this on insanity last night, I play as an adept so I just constantly used warp and my particle beam, and used mordins incinerate, you could also use miranda for her warp as well.

Hey is ok I make save before fight this mini boss and put Easy on so once killed this mini boss then reload a save and continue with Normal difficulty so will it hurt any achievements if I change from Normal to Easy to do this achievement while on Normal difficulty? I know some games if changing difficulty while in playthrough on other difficulty can affect any achievements. This why I want to know about it if ok or not.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition (PC) - Achievement - Big Game Hunter

ME2: Thresher Maw defeated

*SPOILER ALERT*

This achievement is obtained during Grunts loyalty mission in Mass Effect 2. A prerequisite is that you have tried to recruit Warlord Okeer and instead found Grunts tank. You must have also have freed Grunt.
Essentially, he goes through Krogan puberty and you end up having to survive waves of enemies with the final enemy being a Thresher Maw. All you have to do is survive, but to get the achievement, you must kill the Thresher Maw. It is heavily armoured, so it's best to use incendiary attacks. This is also a good opportunity to use the 'Cain' heavy weapon which is basically a mini nuclear launcher. Using it in close quarters will kill you as well, but because you are outside with plenty of distance between you and the Thresher Maw, there isn't much risk of this and a 2 hits with it should kill it.

During Grunt's loyalty mission, you will face off with this giant monster. You will have a five minute timer to kill it before it disappears, so be sure to put everything you've got into it. If you're on Insanity difficulty, it can be quite a bullet sponge. However, it only has an armor bar, so using a Soldier with Inferno ammo makes it fairly easy. Bring Mordin for his Incinerate skill too. The Collector Paticle Beam weapon found on Horizon at the beginning of the game is great against it as well.
