How to unlock the Chopping Firewood achievement in MLB The Show 21 - Definitive Guide

After many thousands of pitches with no luck this is how I got it within 10 minutes in an exhibition game, throwing only 26 fastballs in total:

PITCHING
- Use a fastball pitcher (95MPH+)
- Throw nothing but high and inside fastballs in on the batter's hands

GAMEPLAY SETTINGS
- Pitching Difficulty: Beginner
- Pitching Interface: Classic

SLIDER SETTINGS
- CPU Contact FULL RIGHT (100%)
- CPU Power FULL LEFT (0%)
- CPU Timing FULL RIGHT (100%)
- CPU Foul Frequency FULL RIGHT (100%)
- CPU Solid Hits FULL LEFT (0%)

I unlocked this in 26 pitches, and on my 6th batter faced. Using pitcher Christian Javier on the Astros, vs. the Athletics.

Any high velocity pitcher should do just fine. Champman (NYY), Cole (NYY), Kershaw (LAD), Ohtani (LAA), deGrom (NYM), Kimbrel (CHC), Glasnow (TBR), etc.

Some have found success with the slider as well, but likely when coming in on the batter, such as a RH pitcher throwing a slider to a LH batter.

If you are using a RH pitcher, pitch to a team whose lineup is left handed batter heavy. If you are using a LH pitcher, try to pitch to a team whose lineup is right handed batter heavy.

Very good solution for me, I hated using the Astros for obvious reasons, I ended up using the relief pitcher with a cutter and got the achievement that way

Were you guys throwing strikes high and inside? Or were you throwing them outside the strike zone more towards the batter and just hoping they swung?

Excellent guide. Thank you. Used De Grom on the Mets because of his fastball, but the sliders worked perfectly.

Used Aroldis Chapman on the Yankees vs. the Mets, and it just took me 5 pitches.

Played a full 9-inning game with the Yankees (Chapman and Cole), but sadly this method did not work for me.

Sorry to hear that, @InspectahDerk. Did you adjust the sliders as well? I've found with how the sliders are set, the AI fouls off far more pitches. Each batter should be seeing at least 5-6 pitches (they'll foul a few off) if all is done correctly.

I've managed to do it in Road to the Show mode. Didn't adjust any sliders and just played. About halfway through my first season, so its deffo possible

Worked for me. Used the Dodgers, put in Santana (faster 4SFB than Kershaw). Pitched nothing but high and inside to every batter, let the ball land in the field if they hit it so I could keep pitching. Just set the controller down during my at bats. Unlocked in the 7th inning after about 100 pitches.

I used the settings above and got it with lefty pitcher Chapman (NYY) throwing a 4-Seam Fastball aimed inside strike to a lefty batter. Here's the video:

Got it with gerrit Cole. Throw 4 seam fastballs at the bottom corner of the strike zone inside

Used Chapman (Yankees) against the Blue Jays as their lineup is nearly 100% right handed. Ironically, I didn't get this to work until I faced a left-handed batter.

Thank you. I got it with Cole (NYY) against bluejays. Always throwing it on the inside line at the batters belt. I got it on the 6th batter. Don't exit and restart after the 1st inning. Go through the 9 batters.

I tried almost all of these methods once at least and was going to just save this for last, but in my March to October run, I actually broke bats 2 times in the same game with a low Cutter. So my recommendation would be, play all of the modes you have to first and let some of these happen naturally.

I threw both balls and strikes high and inside, @derektwopointoh. With the "Classic" pitching interface you don't have pinpoint accuracy, I placed them in the top inside corner both in and out of the zone. I wasn't really careful with pitch placement (due to the random nature of where they end up), I was more worried about the volume of pitches.

@MrFreakzilla I have played this game A LOT..normally, as I'm a big baseball fan and never ended up getting this. I literally grabbed Chapman vs Blue Jays. I got it within 8-10 pitches. lol

My suggestion is to throw a fastball inside, on their hands...middle to low in the zone. Throwing high and inside just seems to get a ton of foul balls.

This achievement is not an exact science, because it requires a bit of luck but pitching inside and sooner (aka, throw towards the hitter) around belt / waist high, so when they swing the ball causes the bat to break at the handle.

Just a tip for people that don't know American baseball...a "breaking ball" is a SLOW(er) pitch and a lot less likely to break a bat. I broke two on my WS run in October mode, both against Beginner AI, and both with Astros pitcher McCullers. Both times I threw a "cutter" (type of fastball) to the low inside corner of the strike zone. No slider adjustments at all, just default settings.

Yeah. Also don’t feel agitated if you don’t unlock it at first. It takes time. Probably was the hardest achievement for me to pop, I got lucky, but aiming in at the belt does help.

One of the best pitches I’ve found for it is the Cutter. It was like that in past games as well.

Just got this in a random March to October match in April if that matters. I dont know if I broke the bat in the 2 innings I played or if it was done by AI but yea, RNG is RNG so good luck.

@YalrishMick96 - Just as in really life, I'm sure throwing breaking pitches (cutter, slider, etc.) and running in on their hands helps as well.

Can you explain that a bit more what do you mean by "running in on their hands". I'm totally new to baseball.

Also is there any particular team which has a pitcher that can throw those kind of pitches you're saying work better for this achievement?

@YalrishMick96, okay when you look at the strike zone it's a grid, three rows of three boxes. The phrase 'running in on their hands' means to throw the ball in the middle row in the box closest to their body, right on the edge of the strike zone.

This is my last achievement and I can’t get it. I’ve tried several different things like pitchers, pitches and even changing the sliders. I appreciate the tips people have provided but hopefully someone can come up with a specific solution for this frustratingly pointless achievement.

I was struggling to get this against the AI - at least several hundred innings pitched. I played online and kept throwing breaking balls up and high and got it within 5-6 innings. Obviously not an exact science, but if you're struggling like I was, I'd recommend trying online.

@YalrishMick96 - Sorry I didn't explain that better, glad you got it. And yes, it's mostly a luck thing. If you throw a cutter on the inner edge of the plate at medium height, you'll get it eventually.

Not my video, this is what worked for me...

I also had the CPU sliders adjusted:
Contact 100
Power 0
Timing 100
Foul Frequency 100
Solid Hits 0

Fastball pitch bottom inside corner of the strikebox, I used NY Yankees Pitcher Cole with 99mph fastball.

Great solution! It wasn't unlocking for me. I picked the teams you suggested and tried again, after the first 3 I restarted the game and I could break the bat of the first player showing up!

That video doesn't help at all and you should delete it, he just says to do march to October (which I already did). BUT with the settings you had vs Oakland I got it my 5th pitch of the game
