This is easy to get early on, I got it on thhe 2nd day after the opening introduction. Head all the way up until you reach the lab. The professor will give you the slime after some dialog and you just need to head home and apply it to a crop

Red Slime turns a crop into a tamed planimal monster that you can use to fight in the dungeon and rec center. You will find red slimes often to kill for their essence, you can purchase it in town, or you can craft them with red gems once you hit Level 5.
