Higher difficulties have higher score multipliers, so to get a million points, you'll probably need to play on R-Typer difficulty. I generally end an R-Typer run with about 1.1 million points. It might be possible to do this on Bydo, but you'll probably have to milk points from enemies throughout the game and deliberately kill yourself a couple of times to replay high-scoring sections, and I'd say that would make it more difficult than a simple R-Typer run.
This has to be done in one credit (no continues allowed) as your score resets when you use a continue.

FYI: as of the latest update this is GLITCHED. Just got over 1,000,000 points, no achievement. Restarted console, restarted game, and nothing. It took me awhile to practice to get that to.

I only had one achievement in this game not pop instantly (the last one for getting all other achievements). It unlocked when I went into the Pilot Data screen. Might've just been a coincidence, but perhaps worth trying here?
