Sounds hard? Well, it would be, but it isn't.
Nightmare mode is unlocked about halfway into the main story, it's the big skull on your map. In it, you have to beat every invasion level apart from the Candy Land ones without dying. Die, and you go back to the first one. 36 levels in total. This would be horribly difficult if it wasn't for the fact that you can cheese the everliving hell out of it. Simply pause the game and close the game app if you're about to die. When you load it up again, you can go back to Nightmare and you'll get to start from the level you were on. As long as you don't let yourself actually die, you can do this as many times as you need. Just be careful on levels with instakill obstacles (such as the red birds that chase you) or bottomless pits. And that's all there is to it. If you find any level tricky, you can always buy a gadget thing. I recommend the path thing, the heart thing and the checkpoint thing.

Good find. Thanks for the tip

Also when you exit the game and come back you can practice the levels you've unlocked on the normal map and it not affect your nightmare progress.

Thanks for conforming this. I tried quitting out on the first level yesterday and noticed the same thing, but didn't have time to test it out completely. Won't be hard this way.

I can't pause the game when i'm about to die.Also i play with a 360 pad. :(

I don't think you can pause if you're already in the death animation so to speak, but you can usually tell if you're about to get hit. I used the heart gadget for every level, so that wasn't really an issue anyway. Apparently backing up your save between levels also works, if you wanna try that.

Do you know the location of the save to back up? I found the folder but from there am not sure.
By xXOdessaXx on 18 Nov 2015 17:54
I just use checkpoint and gold heart gadgets. With that it's really easy ^^
By Clad master on 19 Nov 2015 16:02
Does the checkpoint gadget just mean you get sent back to the checkpoint instead of dying? (So now you only have to reach the first checkpoint without dying?)
By Mike Marcelais on 20 Nov 2015 21:45
The checkpoint gadget creates a checkpoint in the "middle" of the level, if you can reach it. If you die after that, you respawn at the checkpoint, but only once. Die again and it's game over.

I noticed when I was doing my run that you can simply push the retry button in the upper left hand corner instead of closing and restarting the app. It would take me back to the beginning of the level and wouldn't void my progress. It was really helpful when used with the golden heart gadget as I could get a do over if I took any hits at all.

^ Is that before or during death animation? Can u check progress somewhere?
By ChknFingrs on 23 Nov 2015 03:50
If you are using the golden heart gadget, you can restart after taking hits but before the death animation. This work well on many levels where something is chasing you. You if you get hit, you will die, it takes a few seconds for the the death animation to start because of the gadget. Push the restart level button when this occurs and you will be back at the start with no loss of progress.

Nice guide. Good to hear about the 'things' :)
By Priest Crow on 23 Nov 2015 20:46
Yup thats a good question. Do you know the file name for the save so i can make regular back ups? Way less frustrating. Thanks!!
By Priest Crow on 24 Nov 2015 16:42
The other solution was already taken down once, and will likely be removed again. Tampering with game files is against solution guidelines. That said, it's clearly the superior method, even if I did it with no issues using my own.
By Awoo on 02 Dec 2015 22:28
Well, my solution has indeed been removed, sorry guys !
By Hmizzz on 04 Dec 2015 18:21
But it's not tampering with the game files, is it? We are essentially creating a backup of our saved game... We're not altering or exploiting the game in any way.
It really is the superior method and is working like a charm- already past the halfway mark. I couldn't do this any other way.
By ChknFingrs on 11 Dec 2015 06:20
It is, according to the TA solution guidelines. I don't make the rules. It's probably not that hard to figure out the general idea just from reading these comments though ;)
By Awoo on 11 Dec 2015 07:00
I had some problems with that solution, I generally do not have enough time to pause the game when I'm about to die.
Imagine how easy it would be to have the path to the savefile... and 2 batch files to load or save your data easily.
By Tanelorn82 on 15 Dec 2015 18:46
Yes, that is how you would do it. The save file is not terribly hard to find, it's the same as with any other Win8 game. It's not in the solution because it's not allowed

hey im stuck on level 28 cool loop because my character isnt running up the walls, has anyone else had this problem? am i missing something? any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
By heinzfilm on 15 Dec 2015 23:15
Copying the save file is not tampering. It's the same as if you'd backup a save file from the 360 on an USB stick.
Tampering with files is using a trainer or hex editor.

This achievement is not difficult at all even without backing up or "cheesing". The fact one of the upgrades tells you exactly what to do on each level, grouped with the other power-ups makes the achievement as easy as you want it to be. I held off doing this because I was expecting another Jungle Run but there is no comparison. And how is restarting from a checkpoint before you die a cheese method, I call that logic.

I was stuck on level 18 because my character couldn't glide. What I had to do was uninstall/reinstall and start a new game. After that, everything seemed to work perfectly. I'm pretty sure copying my save while the game was still open in task manager is what caused it. Just a heads up.
By A Lazy Susan on 28 May 2016 04:41
If anyone manages to do this without using the "tricks", wow...
I almost spent 2 hours on this dumb thing.
