How to unlock the Past the Ruins achievement in Returnal - Definitive Guide

The Survey trophies are when things begin to get tough, as your ability to find the last few collectibles is heavily reliant on what rooms the procedural generation spits out. To complete the Overgrown Ruins Survey, you’ll need to do the following
  • Explore one secret area
  • Collect every Xenoglyph Cipher
  • Retrieve severy Scout Log
  • Scan every Xeno-Archive
  • Survive the Containment Area
  • Eliminate the boss
The secret areas can be found by walking up to glowing orbs by Xeno statues - you’ll know you’ve entered one when you fall through the floor into an area where your minimap doesn’t work. The boss is story based, so you can’t miss it, and the Xeno-Archives are found in side route doors, although you’ll need the one of the permanent upgrades in order to scan all the Xeno-Archives in each biome, so it's best to wait until the post-game after Act 2 to go for these.

Containment Areas are found in doors marked with a big star on your map - you’ll know which one because you’ll need to shoot a big squidgy alien plant off of it to unlock it. These are tough, challenging areas which throw three waves of strong enemies at you, so if you’re on a good run or just want to progress through the game, it’s best to leave these until after you’ve finished Act 3. Not only does it reduce the penalty of dying, but you’ll have more knowledge of the enemies and their patterns, meaning it’ll be much easier.

The rest seems simple enough, but you’ll likely find you’re left with at least one or two Xenoglyph Ciphers or Scout Logs, even by the time you complete Act 3. From here on out, it’s a case of luck, and you’ll need to explore as much of the Overgrown Ruins as possible in one run. If you don’t find a Cipher or Scout Log, you’ll need to start again and hope the algorithm spawns the room they’re in this time round. When you’re in the biome, you can access this trophy via the PS5’s Activities Cards to see exactly what you have left to do or collect.

To make audio recording No. 10 appear, you need to use the reconstructor; during the new cycle, when you launch from the ship again, this recording will be in the reconstructor’s room.

After update 1.4, audio file #9 dropped out during the first run at the end of the biome. The update has corrected the probability of finding it

It may sound stupid, but judging by information from foreign forums, the most difficult to obtain audio file No. 9 is randomized in the first room, behind the first side (blue triangle) door. If it is empty, start the cycle again through the main menu. Or I was VERY lucky, but after 3 hours of completely clearing the lock, I found the log in 3 minutes this way. Video guide (en).

For a long time I could not find two glyphs in the overgrown ruins, I studied all the guides, and restarted the cycle 15 times in vain. I decided to try to die at the hands of a mob (I had only restarted before) and a room with a glyph immediately appeared. By the way, I went through the first act without dying (except for the plot death from a mini-boss). Perhaps this also has some influence.
UPD. The last glyph also dropped on the next run after dying from a mob.
It's not certain that this works for all glyphs, but some rooms with glyphs are definitely scripted to only appear after death.

In the room marked with a circle above the square, designed to go directly to the third biome, a blue room often spawns, which is also important to open
Even if there is an unnecessary location there, you will increase the chance of its generation in the next ones, since secret rooms in the same biome are not repeated

It is not necessary to look for audio file No. 9 in the first “room” behind the first side door, because she can appear behind any side door. In view of this, it makes sense to run through the entire location and inspect all the side doors. The note will be in a plus-shaped “room” (screenshot attached). At the same time, the room does not have to be like in some video tips: the contents themselves (traps, doors, potential consumables and equipment) can be arbitrary.

You can clear this biome after the 2nd act (that is, after the first playthrough of the game).
