How to unlock the White Shadow achievement in Returnal - Definitive Guide

Act 3 becomes available after the credits roll, in what we’ll affectionately label the post-game. Here, you can choose whether you begin in the Overgrown Ruins or the Echoing Ruins. It’s unclear at first what you need to do to complete Act 3, but there’s actually one brand new item in each of the game’s six biomes - a Sunface Fragment. They’re mostly hidden behind areas that were inaccessible on your first visit to the biome, such as needing the grappling hook, or the visor attachment. There appears to be a high chance they’ll spawn on a run, but it's not guaranteed, so if you’ve searched every room and can’t find them, you’ll need to restart a new loop. Once you’ve found all six, you’ll be able to enter the house for a final time, gaining a new key. Take this key back to the final boss, Ophion, once again, and use it on the car found below the boss room, and the trophy should pop.

To complete Act 3, you need to perform several actions.

1. Complete Act 2 (Captain Obvious)
2. Visit the house 6 times (don’t go further than this point yet, we’ll look at it later!)
3. Kill Ophion for the second time in the 6th location "Deep Scar"
4. After killing the final boss, jump down and (before reaching the cutscene) get into the car

Now let’s take a closer look at the 2nd point.

The house appears only in the 1st and 4th locations (Overgrown Ruins and Ringing Ruins, respectively). At each location we can visit the house 3 times. BUT! We will not have free access to the 6th visit to the Ringing Ruins; here we will have to run around.

If you forgot your number of visits, you can find a house in the Ringing Ruins and if the visit is unavailable and the inscription “Dark” appears, then congratulations - you have moved to the 3rd act (of course, if you have already completed the 2nd).

If the previous condition has been met, then we can start running around the location.

When transitioning to Act 3, “Shards of the Sun’s Face” will spawn in locations. There is one at each location, 6 fragments in total. It is not necessary to look into every corner - fragments are marked on the mini-map with triangles, just like consumables. But sometimes you will have to go around the entire location; nevertheless, the generation of locations is random. If you find a fragment, you can safely go look in another location and not be afraid of death - the fragments remain with us.

After finding all 6 fragments, we again go to the house in the Ringing Ruins. We visit it for the 6th time, then follow the points from the list and enjoy the true ending.

The description in the ApmaGEEDoH hint is not correct. It can become dark in the house before Act 2. if you entered the arena with Ophion but did not kill him.

Each of the 6 biomes contains 1 piece of the amulet. Your task is to comb all the locations and find them - they can appear in both additional and main rooms. For example, in the Shattered Wastes, part of the amulet is located in the middle of a large arena that resembles an amphitheater, and in the Ancient Citadel I had it underwater in one of the corridors.

You can only collect 1 piece in one run. After you have found it, feel free to restart the cycle and go to the next location.

After this, all that remains is to visit the house and watch the last scene in it, and then re-kill the boss in the Deep Scar and open the car door.

I just found the required Shard of the Sun's Face in the Overgrown Ruins (the very first location), and then in the same race in the Crimson Wastes (the second location, deserted), without restarting the race. So the search for fragments can be combined with the search for all items (ciphers and records) without unnecessary restarting the races

There is a suspicion that the fragments will spawn 100%. If I didn't die in the biome, I 100% found a shard, the first three in one try. I had to tinker with the last one because I jumped into the hole early and didn’t look carefully. On the second attempt I found the 6th fragment.
So just look through all the locks in full and you will be happy.

Found 2 fragments for 1 try, the hint is not correct.

ACT 1

You can find 3 at a time (one act = 3 fragments). In the first biome, look for a large room with bridges and a white ball on it, shoot at the ball, pick up a fragment. This room can be either additional or main.

In the second location there are two fragment spawn points. But the fragment is always at the very beginning (in the desert). The first point - we are looking for a tower with a white ball in the desert, we shoot at the ball, platforms appear, we jump, we rise to the top. If you see a chest in front of you instead of a fragment, then in the same location find a door with lasers, run through the red puddle and at the end a fragment will be waiting for you.

The third fragment always spawns in the same place. Just run headlong towards the third boss, when you run across the bridge - at the end of the bridge you will fall into the water, there will be a fragment there.

ACT 2

The fourth fragment will have to be searched again in the same way as the first. Look for a room with a red puddle and a red circle beam generator in the middle. Jump into the red puddle and run to the end of the room. There will be a fragment and a door that can be opened with a key. But you don’t have to open it, there’s a fragment in front of it.

The fifth fragment should be in the room where you picked up the device to jump under water. You mean a room with a boss in which there is no boss. Just go into the room, shoot the white ball and use the platforms to get to the fragment. If he is not there, then he should be in a round location with a cannon in the middle. This location is always found according to a pattern: you run into one of three doors and see a teleport. Use the teleport and find yourself in a room with traps. You found a teleport + rooms with traps, which means the location with the cannon is along this path. However, no matter how many times I come to the cannon, the fragment is not there. Apparently the developers changed the location.

Sixth fragment. Under the water. You need to find a room with many platforms. As usual, you will need to shoot at the white ball. It's not difficult to find. Search according to the principle of the 1st and 4th biomes.
