How to unlock the To Each Their Own achievement in SAMURAI WARRIORS 5 - Definitive Guide
While the other guide gives a little information. I thought I'd add a bit more to help people, who like me where still a bit unsure of what to do.
First of all. You will need to head to the Dojo. From here, you will be best off making a list of who you need to work on. I started this achievement grind after getting an S Rank on all campaign missions. So I've worked some way into it.
Secondly. You will need to raise each characters rank to 30. You will no doubt have some there already.
Third. Work on getting their weapon mastery for their favoured weapon to an A rank.
Fourth. You will need to work at unlocking all their skills.
What you need to do to check if they're getting the Ultimate Skill unlocked. Is select Acquire Skill. If you've got one locked. Highlight it. It will tell you which weapon they need an A Rank mastery for. Back out, then select Increase Weapon Mastery from the previous menu. You can train them in other weapons, but it requires the base weapon type they start with.
When it comes to weapons. There is a guide elsewhere on site, that shows you to use the Ninja Blade. When you can, get this. Then make sure you're main character for grinding is using it at S Rank. You will fly through missions, even on Nightmare difficulty.
Once you've reached the A Rank. You will be able to unlock the skill for them. It's going to be a long winded process. You can buy Exp from the shop. If you run out of money. Sell gems and dismantle weapons you won't use for extra gold. If this guide helps, or doesn't. Let me know. I want to help as many people out as I can.

I'm confused most characters ultimate skill is very easy to get to on the skill tree and only requires level 10, I've just gone through all the characters I have unlocked (about half) and got them all and I'm on 51%. What do you need to do all this stuff for? Do skill trees get more nodes or something? I see some characters have nodes that are locked behind level 30 and A rank but they aren't for ultimate skills.

Odd. I'm not getting progress until I do it the way I've been doing it.

Not all characters have ultimate skills. Only up to Yasuke. You will get this achievement once you unlock the last character Magoichi Saika and get his ultimate skill.

I can’t say exactly how to get it, I can assume that you need to open an active skill in the skill branch
For some characters, you will have to obtain certain weapon ranks and level up. The task is simplified by the fact that not everyone has the skill, but only the characters from Nabunaga to Yasuke.
If the trophy does not drop, raise your weapon mastery to A, or better yet, probably to S. During the game, you have enough experience points to do this without bothering.
There should be a total of 4 active skills. Characters starting with Nobuyuki Oda have 3
