How to unlock the Clockwork Champion achievement in Sea of Stars - Definitive Guide

Wheels is Sea of Stars minigame. All of the wheels games are found within the inns you come across in the game, and to be able to challenge the Watchmaker to a game you need to have first beaten all other Wheels champions in a champion game. Casual games do not matter.

All locations for these champions are:
- Brisk
- Mooncradle
- Stonemason's Outpost
- Lucent
- Docarria Village
- Mirth
- Repine
- Cloud Kingdom
- The Vespertine (press and hold LB whilst in your ship and go below deck)

To be able to play Wheels in Repine you need to talk to the person on the right hand side of the inn first and he asks you to get a wheels table for him. For this you need to go the the Watchmaker in Clockwork Castle and buy one from her for 250g.
In Mirth you need to get the plans for an inn from Mirna (the girl who is collecting Rainbow Conch in Docarria Village) first. This requires you to have just 4 rainbow conch. Then you just need to find someone to run the inn for you, talk to Edgar the innkeeper in Lucent and his brother will do that for us. And then you will be able to play wheels in Mirth.

Beat each of the Champions in each location and then you will be able to go back to the Clockwork Castle and challenge the Watchmaker herself.

What if you didn't do the one in Brisk before the events on Wraith Island?

I actually like Wheels for what it is more than I expected. It was actually kinda fun and challenging at times, especially if the opponent had an Assassin class.

I always used a Mage/Archer combo for my pair. Seemed to work out easy most times for wins. Mage can shoot through any wall and Archer can shoot over the walls.

Worst achievement in the game.
“What a technique!” was annoying too but this one was worse for me.

Wheels is a unique mini-game that you can find in most town taverns. The basic gist is that you will select two playing pieces that have different abilities, then spin a wheel up to three times while choosing to "lock" certain symbols after a spin if you want to keep them. The symbols with the stars on the background will go toward leveling up your pieces (bronze>silver>gold) and doing so will make them more powerful. The basic symbol relating to sun or moon will power up the pieces on the left or right respectively, to perform whatever action they can do (attacking, healing, interrupting, etc), while the hammers will build a defensive wall in front of your castle. Once you make enough attacks to reduce the health of the enemy castle to zero, you win. It makes much more sense after playing a game or two.

I personally found using the Mage and Archer a solid combo every match, as the archer can shoot over walls, and the mage attacks twice to knock a wall down and still get in damage with the second attack (or two damage attacks if they have no wall). Your first match will be the hardest since that is where you win the Archer piece. Other pieces may have stronger attacks, but you're often thwarted by the enemy building a wall on the same turn you attack, or using an Assassin piece to interrupt your attack.

To unlock this achievement you'll need to defeat the Watchmaker in a game, and you'll need to defeat every other Champion player in the game first before you can challenge him. Below is a list of where you can challenge each player.

  • Port Town of Brisk
  • Town of Lucent
  • Stonemasons Outpost (after defeating Dweller of Woe)
  • Vespertine (hold lb.png on the world map to get on deck)
  • Lake Docarria
  • Cloud Kingdom
  • Mirth (after building the Inn)
  • Repine (purchase the portable board from the Watchmaker)
  • Mooncradle
  • Clockwork Castle Clocktower (Watchmaker)
The rewards for defeating each Wheels player are locked in order, so no matter which one you defeat you'll always get the next reward in line. These are as follows:

  1. Archer
  2. Bronze Wheel
  3. Silver Wheel
  4. Engineer
  5. Gold Wheel
  6. Priest
  7. Diamond Wheel
  8. Assassin
  9. Platinum Wheel
  10. Flimsy Hammer
Upon getting all ten rewards you will unlock the achievement.

My tactics were that each battle was completed in a maximum of 2 attempts.
1. I took a magician and a warrior into battle, and only trained the magician. He deals 2 attacks and breaks through the opponent's health each time. I didn’t upgrade the second figure (the warrior) at all.
2. First, I collected bricks so that there was protection and supported it first (if it was destroyed).
3. After the figure of the cleric (another person with a staff) appears, take it instead of the warrior.
Now you need to pump up a purely cleric, he heals you per turn and gives bonuses for attacking the magician. The magician can be raised in rank whenever possible in order to finish the game faster.

In Happiness, you must first buy a blueprint for an inn for shells, build this inn and place an innkeeper there, who can be found in Lucent
