How to unlock the What a technique! achievement in Sea of Stars - Definitive Guide
NOTE: Since many are curious if you could just kill the same boss 10x on the same save, I attempted it on the worm boss in the Forbidden Cavern at the beginning, FOR SCIENCE, and it didn't work. If you just want to fight the first boss or first few bosses to get this, you'll need to start a separate NG+ save file for the tracker to count them. The bosses don't really get harder though and the prologue is long so I personally wouldn't recommend but it's up to you.
Time to GIT GUD with timing your blocks!
Artful Gambit is a relic found in late/post-game.
Relic Effect: Health -95%, and enemies are invincible while casting. Timed blocks reduce all damage to 1, and Timed attacks deal double damage. This is one for the showoffs and speedrunners!
How to obtain it: Start up The Cerulean Expedition storyline anytime after unlocking Fleshmancer's Lair by going to the Camp on the world map and talk with Serai.
Quest walkthrough (puzzle solution spoiler):
NOTES/TIPS:
- You'll need to start New Game+ after unlocking the relic and play through the game to net the 10 boss kills with it on. (You can technically use it on some of the late game bosses before starting a NG+ run and they'll count but they will be much harder. I'd just recommend waiting until your new run.)
On NG+ you'll be super powerful so this won't be nearly as hard as it seems.
- You can turn the relic off in between bosses. Just make sure to reactivate it before facing each one.
- Once starting a new game, if you use the relic on each boss consecutively, you'll need to get to the Leaf Monster again on Mesa Island (credit: Himuki) to get the achievement. That will take roughly ~4-5 extra hours if you speed through.
Tips italicized below are from "SKizzUMATIK" in the comments.
- RB+A will super speed through text and holding B will skip animated videos. This saved me probably close to half an hour and countless mashing of the A button for dialogue.
- Helpful relics at any point do not impact the achievement.
- During boss fights, the most useful items are Leeching Thorn accessories, Reaper's Mercy bracelet, and the Double Edge relic which was helpful as its negative trait is basically moot with the Artful Gambit on.
- You have to re-equip every character with their gear as they get added to your party, this includes your main Solstice kiddos.
ChiflaGoodLuck wrote out a list of the first bosses that count from the beginning of NG+:
1) BossSlug
2) Elder Mist
3) Malkomud
4) Chromatic Apparition
5) Romaya
6) Botanical Horror
7) Dweller of Woe
8) Stormcaller
9) Dweller of Torment
10) Leaf Monster

In case anyone is wondering, if you do a new game+ with the relic on, you'll unlock the achievement after beating the Leaf Monster.

Just got it. Can confirm leaf boss as well, even though there are 15 boss-type encounters in total including the leafy boi. I'm guessing the ones that don't count as bosses are the intro training golum, the first encounter with Rockie (the rock Salamander immediately following the wind/blow ability), Malkomud (the Mole mage [I like you]), Duke Aventry, Acolytes 1 & 3, and Acolytes 2 & 4. However, I don't know which encounters don't count for sure so it's probably best to play it safe and have the relic on for all of them. Holy crap I just realized that you don't actually kill any of those bosses during those encounters, maybe that's why they don't count. Achievement should say *Destroy* 10 Bosses. Hmm.
A few notes:
• RB+A will super speed through text and holding B will skip animated videos. This saved me probably close to half an hour and countless mashing of the A button for dialogue.

• During boss fights, using the relic Double Edge was probably helpful as its negative trait is basically moot with the Artful Gambit on.
• You have to re-equip every character with their gear as they get added to your party, this includes your main Solstice kiddos.
Everything is so low level during this entire block of the game that this achievement turned out to be very easy; one just has to dedicate another chunk of time as you mentioned. Took me about 4 hours and 40 minutes blasting through.

These are the 10 bosses I defeated with the Artful Gambit Relic on and unlock the 'What a technique' achievement. The three items I used the most are the Magic Pocket, the Reaper's Mercy and the Blue Leaf.
0:00 Elder Mist (2nd fight)
13:42 Romaya (2nd fight)
24:42 Croustalion
29:00 Sea Slug
38:27 LeJugg
44:51 Phase Reaper
53:04 Elysan'darëlle
1:04:38 Fleshmancer
1:13:12 Bosslug (NG+)
1:14:01 Elder Mist (NG+)
Note:
- If you start using this relic after defeating the Dweller of Dread, as I did, you will have to start a New Game Plus (NG+) until you reach the Elder Mist to unlock this achievement.
- If you don't want to start a NG+, you can obtain the relic after defeating the Triumvirate of Eminence. According to other players, you can still talk to Seraï to obtain Joce's Belt Buckle (I'm not sure if you can defeat the Gun Goddess before this point. Anyway, talk to Seraï before beating the game, or you will have to start a NG+). These are the 10 bosses: The Catalyst, Dweller of Dread, Elder Mist (2nd fight), Romaya (2nd fight), Croustalion, Sea Slug, LeJugg, Phase Reaper, Elysan'darëlle and Fleshmancer.
- If you choose to turn on the relic when starting a NG+, you will need to defeat bosses up to and including the Leaf Monster.

Good tip for getting this without needing to start a New Game +, worked for me.
You can defeat the Gun Goddess when you go for the relic early but I decided to reload my save and leave her until after Serai asks you to deal with her in case it messed with getting the final story for Teaks.

VERY IMPORTANT: Achievements are tracked per save file, so make sure you base your subsequent NG+ from the NG+ where you had killed the bosses from your first run if you are doing the bosses in two separate playthroughs. This will ensure the achievement progress is carried over..
You can obtain Artful Gambit some what early late game:
The first 10 bosses are listed below:
1. Bosslug (Forbidden Caverns)
2. Elder Mist (Elder Mist Trials)
3. Malkomud (Wind Tunnel Mines)
4. Chromatic Apparition (Abandoned Wizard's Lab)
5. Romaya (Necromancer's Lair)
6. Botanical Horror (Haunted Mansion)
7. Dweller of Woe (Haunted Mansion)
8. Stormcaller (Maelstrom Point)
9. Dweller of Torment (Torment Peak)
10. Leaf Monster (Autumn Hills)
The Prologue takes about 20 mins while skipping dialogue with RB + A.
This achievement could be a little buggy, but double check the Artful Gambit is turned on before all bosses listed above. I had to complete 13 bosses from the list before it unlocked for me. But I also had issues with a story achievement.

You can just beat the first 5 bosses (romaya is n.5), then create two save files and start a ng+ on one of this two save. This will start a sort of ng++ with less hp but all rings you collect from ng+, so 3 leeching thorn (wich restore ALL hp with basic attack) for all 3 characters. Super easy
The Artful Gambit relic is found quite late in the game during Serai's end-game side-quest. See Better off dead (30G) for more info on where it is located. This relic removed 95% of your health, but drops all damage done to 1HP if you perform a perfectly timed block and doubles the damage you do on a perfectly timed attack. Essentially, you must perform perfectly in battle or be killed in one hit every time. None of the other relics in the game will void your progress toward this achievement, so be sure to leave on all the helpful ones, especially Sixth Sense which gives a 35% chance to auto-block attacks which can trigger if you miss your timing. Equipping the accessory Reaper's Mercy will leave you with 1HP if an attack would normally kill you, giving you an extra miss of a perfect block as well.
Once you have this relic, you can begin working on the achievement during your first playthrough if you'd like, but as I pointed out in the Road Map, it's much less stressful to simply hold off and do the entirety of it during a NG+ playthrough. Do keep in mind that it is cumulative though, so if you defeat the few bosses left in the game during your first playthrough, you'll only need to defeat the remaining few from the list below. These are the ten bosses that count from the beginning of the game until the achievement will unlock:

This should take you about four hours of game time to complete, and almost zero effort. You will likely be killing most of these bosses in one hit since you'll be a very high level and have all the best equipment (be sure to re-equip everyone who joins your party). You can use + to speed through dialogue, and hold to skip any cinematics to speed up the story. This should be the only achievement you have left while in NG+ so just sticking to the main story and not needing to explore any of the maps, you'll be done in no time.

This is the last and most tedious trophy of the game, as you need to defeat 10 bosses by using the worst relic of the game. Artful Gambit will cut your HP by 95% and will make the enemies invincible while casting. The good part, is that if you manage to block an attack, the damage will be only 1 HP and you can equip any other relics to make things easier.
First of all, you have to find the Artful Gambit relic. The relic is located in the area where you fight the Gun Goddes. See Better off dead description under New Garl + to find the location.
Once you find the relic, you can chose how to get the trophy. In the roadmap, there is a list of many ways to get it. However, the easiest way i found to get this trophy, is by starting a New Game+ and equip the relic anytime you're near a boss. Play the game until you reach the fight with the Stormcaller and once defeated, save the game and start another New Game+ using the same savefile.
Now, defeat the first two bosses again and you should get this trophy and the platinum.

The relic is located in the “Throne of the Forgotten Queen” location; you will find it when you complete the additional quest for the battle with the Goddess of Cannons.
In NG+, use your save and immediately activate the “Cunning Gambit” relic with all the others except the “Dubious Call” relic, which increases damage taken by 40%.
Playing NG+ with the Tricky Gambit activated is fairly easy, provided you already have the best gear.
The Leaf Monster boss will drop a trophy.

If, on your first playthrough, you immediately get into the “Azure Wasteland” into the “throne of the forgotten queen” and try to kill several bosses on this playthrough, you can shorten your ng+, for me such bosses were the intermediate bosses in Flashmancer’s castle: the guy with a saw from his hand and the robot with scythe and two copies of itself. The first one is very easy with the Tricky Gambit relic, the second one will make you sweat a little, it's all about the timing of his scythe swings. In general, having killed only the first, the trophy falls when defeating the Sower of Suffering, and if you kill the second, then during a skirmish with the Second and Fourth on the Ice Mountain than in the usual situation with the “Leaf Monster”. This will speed up the ng+ process by 1-2 depending on the pace of the game

The trophy is apparently glitchy, because in the main company I killed 8 bosses (Lou Zhugg, Spectral Reaper, Erlina, Euforul from Flashmancer's fortress, Sea Slug from Dokari ruins, the second paradise killed Romaya, the Queen of Cannons and killed the Ancient Mist for the second time). According to the idea, the trophy should have fallen on NG plus during the battle with the Giant Slug, or at least on the ancient fog if the Golem is not considered a boss at the beginning. In general, the trophy dropped after I killed the boss after I came to the city of Breeze.
If anyone is interested in playing against bosses with this relic and not running through ng+ with one hit, here’s how I proceeded. Be sure to put the Reaper's Mercy ring on the characters (with a lethal blow, if the characters have more than 50% HP, they do not die but remain in one hit point) with the gambit turned on, any missed blow will be lethal and the characters will always have more than ten HP for the effect to work. I also put a silver ring on Vallerie that restores 10% of HP from damage and this healed her completely. One character can always be on the field. Also, don’t skimp on using a lunar shield so that you can survive another blow if the boss hits with a single attack, this will also make your life easier and you won’t have to learn timings. Give Serai a ring that gives +1 to mana or -1 to the cost of spells so that you can use disorientation as often as possible when bosses cast spells. Don't rush to waste combos. Sometimes it can be useful to effectively disrupt a cast. But if you choose the right moment, it’s better to use the Arson combo (3 units of the Zeil Ri-Shan combo), it gives a lot of damage if you control the tornado, I consistently had 600-800 damage. On the big bosses there are even more than a thousand. And Ri-Shan’s best super blow is if he steals anything and works like Serai’s Disorientation so that there is more time to recover and deal damage. Living Mana - it’s better to have two consistently on the field, the third on CD can be used when attacking. But no one forbids charging all three spheres at a well-chosen moment and hitting harder. But I played it safe.
Another must-have relic could be a magic pocket. Allows you to use food once a round without wasting a turn. I consistently cooked food with mana so that I could again use Serai’s skill, and if other characters didn’t have enough, with rare exceptions, I gave them mana, but such cases were few. I also had a couple of pieces of resurrection food with me, just in case, but spoiler, it wasn’t useful.
Of the bosses in the main game, I found the spectral reaper a little difficult, because he summons copies of himself and attacks at the same time. And Euforul was stuffy. It took me a while to get the hang of the extra step.
Yes, this trophy is really strange and apparently the kill only counts certain bosses, in the main game I killed 1 boss with a relic and on ng plus it turns out 9 it was the boss Dweller of Torment (Gorilla which), the trophy fell on him.
