Worth noting that this achievement only counts the medals you obtain from the bonus stages you get from crossing a checkpoint with at least fifty rings, and not the special stages that give you five medals once you have all the Emeralds. If you don't get enough medals from your normal playthroughs, I'd recommend just replaying Bridge Island Act 1 a few times, on average you should at least get nine medals a run.
