Cool! Yeah, I think I missed my opportunity to call before the delivery truck arrived as I did everything else. Even stating "I love you" in the letter. I'll make sure to get it in my next playthrough. :)

I followed every instruction perfectly and I still haven't gotten the achievement even after many, many playthroughs. are there any other details that I should know about? Or did I possibly run into a glitch?

maybe because I have the achievements of the names buggy all 3 !! delete the game from console and cloud and try again. may be q for sure.

I just tried again on a fresh save file -- deleted from cloud, etc. No dice and felt like I did everything perfectly. I might have chosen a dialogue choice poorly once or twice when analyzing the documents, but that's the only thing I can think of.

so i made the hibiscus tea, only different from my race to get this achievement was in gastown where i called her before the truck arrived and chose the option there of wanting to hear her voice. and another difference and then when you come back and read the files with her and then there's that one thing, I asked about the book and only about her. on Larry's part every time I talked to him I insisted on talking about her. And I didn't give her to Clarissa or to Samsom, and every time I found out I let her know. I believe q call her for each information acquired and essential for this achievement. I'm going to do it on another account and make it right point by point of what has to be done. I'm still with the 3 of the names buggy, they don't activate at all.

Did any of you speak to Deo around the tent area? A dialogue choice gives you the option to bring up Renee or not. I opted not to.

Also wondering if anything you do voids the achievement? Like, too many wrong decisions when you analyze the documents or something similar.

I joined a Backbone discord server and here are the notes from the developer themselves:

- Choose every dialogue option when talking to Renee while drinking after Gastown
- While being interrogated by Clarissa, don’t mention Renee
- While writing the letter to Renee in Warehouse Labs, choose to tell Renee you love her

I just ran through the game again and felt like I got some better dialogue choices, but didn't bother deleting my save. I have read that it's somewhat cumulative, in a way. Case in point is that someone's achievement unlocked during Act 2 during one of their additional runs.

Also, the developer stated they are aware and investigating. Patch might be put out next week.

Ugh. Think I got one more run in me before waiting for a patch. Going to make sure I delete my file this time as I'm almost certain you can't accumulate these different dialogue choices via multiple playthroughs for the achievement.

Dayum, I did everything as prescribed above - with the only exception of not thinking about Renee during the Artifact sections in Act 4 (I'm not sure when exactly or which option triggers that possibility) - at least twice: first time on a subsequent playthrough, second time on a clean save. No dice twice.

After the 'kill scene,' it's your very first interaction with the Artifact. Here are the dialogue choices I believe are the correct sequence while in Act 4:

Anybody delete their save file (from everywhere), but yet, when launching the game back up, some data still syncs over from the cloud somehow? I have to redo the process twice for it to take full effect.

I did 4 full playthroughs (2 for the sole purpose of getting this one last remaining achievement) with no luck. After reading the comments here, I'll happily wait for the patch cause it's just not worth it. I'm glad people still try to figure it out though, the most accurate guide I could find only a few weeks ago was from June, and it wasn't very good.

Sadly, I made no notes because I barged all in, and I can rely only on my playthrough recollections and the barebone guidelines posted originally. Here's the slightly enhanced version including the inputs from fellow achievers ;)

In general:
Be honest / caring / loving / positive throughout talks (try to avoid any wisecracking, sarcastic comments, or downright negative remarks. If all of the dialogue options seem somewhat downery or negative, my guess is it's safer to pick the most neutral one.)

(( Act I ))
( The Bite )
- Be honest, tell you're Howard, don't mention a fake card, tell it was lovely to meet her etc.

(( Act II ))
( Renee's apartment )
- When brewing tea in Renee's apartment, choose hibiscus flowers.
- While kettle is on, think that she's cool.
- Tell her you trust her.

( Gastown )
- Before the truck arrives at the liquor store, ask the bookshop clerk about Renee, her book and her age.
- Before the truck arrives at the liquor store, call Renee and tell her you just want to hear her voice.
- After talking with Louis at the liquor store, call Renee again to bring her up to speed about the Bajwa buyer.

( Tops - after talking to Miss Bajwa, before breaking into the Minister's office )
- Do not flirt with Circe - pick the most neutral responses, so no catnip, no bye gorgeous etc.

( Renee's apartment )
- Do a nice analysis of the documents you stole from the Minister's office.
- While drinking with Renee after Gastown, there are three topics that need to be covered in the dialogue, namely about work, dreams and parents/partners. (Thanks to Sir Paulygon for sharing this comment from devs).
- Tuck her in after she falls asleep on the couch.

( West End )
- After talking to Henry, call Renee.
- Don't reveal Renee to Samson.
- After speaking with Samson, call her again.

( Renee's apartment )
- After talking to Florence and returning to Renee's you'll have a lengthy dialogue. Be sure to exhaust all of the options before you choose "I'm done talking. Let's plan",
-- there will be an option "The Science Minister and his cronies are eating people!", which you can follow with "I witnessed it" - after that Renee should say sth like: "Howard, you know I love you, but (...)"

( Enter Clarissa )
- Don't give Clarissa the "Renee" mug, I gave her "the Ape of the year" mug I stole from the Minister's desk.
- Don't reveal working with Renee. Choose Ellen instead.

(( Act IV ))
( Under the Bridge )
- Have Larry check on Renee & ask about Renee, keep telling she's the most important, need to warn her etc.

( The Artifact )
- Think about Renee when speaking with the Artifact in Act 4. This is the first Artifact interaction after picking it up in the hazmat tent.

- Write Renee a letter and tell that you love her.
-- To write the letter you need to pick up a pen (while being tested by Belle), piece of paper (inside of the book you find inside the container), and tell Belle to open the window. Geezer flies in and gives you a letter from Renee. Choose to write her back. Start with "Thank you, Renee".

I am almost certain there is overabundance of details above, some of them may not be even that important or achievement-voiding. My bet the trophy breaker was flirting with Circe. My other assumption was telling Larry, while under the bridge, about Renee, but it seems Howie tells him about her no matter what ("you talk in your sleep" or sth like that says Larry).

I'd have to check it on the other account, but I'm not sure if I'm up for a seventh? playthrough sooo soon, lol. Hope this helps, folks!

Oh, and again I played on clean save. This is actually, as I've seen it on the internets, a two-step process:
- Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.
- Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Storage.
-On the Manage storage devices screen, select: Clear local saved games. This deletes games saved to your hard drive, but they’ll still be saved to the cloud.
So:
- On Home, select My games & apps.
- Highlight the game, press the Menu button on your controller, then select Manage game & add-ons.
- Select the Saved data box, then choose the item you want to delete.
- Delete it.

Did everything from thegabjzor‘s guide — still no *pop*. Looks like it’s something more (or less) than most of us tries. Or just bugged

I'm considering on deleting my save and then disconnecting from the internet before loading the game up. After, I'll reconnect right before the achievement is supposed to register. I believe others had to do this when it was only on Windows.

Just got this to unlock! I actually deleted my save as usual, but loaded up the game with my network turned off to avoid any cloud sync. When I got to the point before writing down 'I love you' in the letter, I went back online. I think I noticed some different dialogue choices as well especially when I snuck into The Bite via the back door. Took screenshots, so will take the time to write them out later.

I've deleted my data and I have followed the guide and so far nothing same with Brollace Howtor

to unlock it is necessary one last thing, when you are arrested and they serve the last meal for you, it is necessary to eat it, examine the mouth and keep the spine, after that remove the bandage, wash he , and instead of pretending to be passed out, slowly break down the door using this object. The door will open, if it doesn't open you will have to take the book from the bedside, you will have the option to talk with the scientist, don't threaten her or hurt her, the last line of dialogue will have the option "talk for Renee". that's it

Spoke nice throughout the game, got the same outcomes, yet nothing.
Is there 1 other thing that's there to do that I've missed?
It's a good game that gets ruined with crap achievements like this

Ok, got it 2nd run, done JF 117's deletion method, followed Gabjzors guide again and popped just as you write the letter back to renee.
Not sure if it makes a difference, but try and get it all done in 1 playthrough just incase.

This is a really quirky achievement. I tried following all the comment suggestions and guide during my Howard Lotor and Brollace Howtor playthroughs, but ironically I got this achievement in the Wallace Brotor achievement. I deleted save data every time, so I guess I can confirm you can lie about your name when you first meet Renee. I fully expected needing to do more attempts at this so I'm really not sure what stuck and made it work. I think it's mostly about finding the dialogue path with the most content every time you talk to Renee.

Playing on console, first delete your saved data from everywhere and then follow thegabjzor's guide from the comments above to the letter. Start a new game and don't miss a single thing from the list, not a single thing; if you do, start all over. Achievement pops right after selecting "I love you.". If it doesn't unlock exactly then, don't expect it to unlock any later; start all over.

I made a backup save at the mug choice at the end of Act 3 since different guides and comments seem to be 50/50 about what to pick. On my first go I chose Ape, didn't get True Connection at the end. Second run from that save state I picked Renee, and later it popped exactly on cue. The choice of mug was the only relevant variable I could think of.

Boy was I excited to see updates on this thread, with hopes I would finally unlock this one.
I have probably done 7 playthroughs now. I have deleted my save, played offline, showed lots of love to Renee, chose both the Ape and Renee mugs, called her every chance, followed videos. Nothing. Im really at a loss at this point.

Same here. They changed the requirements for this achievement.
I did a fresh save playthrough from both PC and Xbox several times. No dice.

Okay, so after playing through this game like 10 different times I finally got it.
I made a backup save at the point where you choose the mug, and tried a number of different things.

Ape Mug + Blank Page = No pop
Renee Mug + Blank Page = No pop
Ape Mug + Back of Letter = No pop
Renee Mug + Back of Letter = Pop

So for anyone who is having issues, it looks like writing your letter to Renee on the blank paper negatively impacts your achievement. Do not pick up the blank piece of paper inside the book.
Also, choose the Renee mug.

YES, that was it! Give ShOxWave a prize.
I didnt even know you could ignore the paper frrom the book and instead simply write it on Renee's letter!

So to recap:
Delete save
Be honest, kind and caring to Renee
Do a thorough investigations with Renee
Always call Renee when possible
Give Clarissa the Renee Mug
Never give away Renee's identity
Ask Larry to look for Renee
DO NOT take page from book, instead write on back of Renee's letter.

Reccomended you watch a video for proper dialogue, but the difference maker for me was the letter and writing my reply on the back of Renee's letter, instead of using a page from the book. (I had previously tried Renee's mug alone and it didnt work).

This cheevo really is odd gave Clarissa the Renee mug but wrote on the blank page and cheevo popped anyway. So can say that writing on the blank page does not void it

Extremely irritating Achievement. I followed a guide's options exactly and nothing. I had to adjust to giving Clarissa the Renee mug, and selecting "I have a hunch she's in Burning Park" whilst asking Larry to scout out Renee in chapter 4.

hm.. I goes with ape mug, tell Sampson bout Renee, and still get achivement.. probably some other triggers are more important?

I tried Renee's mug + blank page and got the achievement. So I think some other triggers would be more important. But still thanks Sh0xWave.

Can verify, that got it the same way as the The Welsh Hunter got it in his excellent video (second playthrough).

Very irritating achievement but what worked for me was the the dialogue options from the welshunters video (second playthrough) and the advice from Sh0xWave about the mug and the book/page.

Any idea how to delete save on Windows?

I'm on round 2 and I think I screwed it up again. Same with Brollace Howtor.

Tried multiple times. I'm giving up.

Like other people, I also had to delete my save from the cloud to get this achievement to pop. I'm not sure how to delete the cloud save from Windows, but from Xbox under "Manage game and add-ons", go to "Saved data", select your profile, and when it asks select "Delete everywhere". Since PC and Xbox share achievements, they should share save files too, so you could try from an Xbox if you have one and see what happens.

These are all the steps I took. I tried to use everything above, but this is what worked:

I followed ALoneWolf42's steps to the letter, including deleting my cloud save, and it popped right when they said it should. Thanks for the help :) and just in time before it leaves Game Pass!!

Follow the video guide, but give the Renee mug and write on the back of her letter. Got it on my 4th attempt.

Following Watsu's advice, I followed The Welsh Hunter's video guide of his 2nd playthrough exactly except for 3 things:-

1.) Gave Clarissa the Renee mug at the end of Act 2 (I did steal/take the Minister's Ape of the Year mug so I had it as an option).
2.) Don't touch the books in the Jail Crate during Act 4.
3.) Write on the back of Renee's letter that the Geezer had delivered to you.

I was freaking out whilst doing the playthrough but so happy I have it done now.

Just a further note to follow the guide "ALoneWolf42" provides. While I accidentaly picked up the books in the prison crate, I didn't read them and put them down instantly. Still got the achievement following the rest of the reccomendations.

followed like every guide out there for this one achievement, just could not get it. got it just now by doing the 1 thing every guide tells you NOT to do: giving Clarissa the Rene mug.

Another confirmation from me that you should give Clarissa the "renee" mug and write on the back of the letter. I followed all of the dialog choices from this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYXpjCopjN0 youtube guide (the second playthrough they do) and got the achievement to pop.

I unlocked it by following thegabjzor's guides in the comment thread the only exception is I used a different cloud save deletion method starting over with new game.
Cloud Save Deletion:
- Press the start/menu button while hovering over the Backbone game.
-Choose manage game and add-ons from the menu.
-Choose saved data.
-Instead of using the delete all option, hover over your profile name and press start/menu.
-Choose delete saved data.
Choose delete everywhere.

Yup, I can confirm this as well. Writing on the back of the letter worked for me when nothing else did. Don't bother interacting with the books in your cell and you'll get the 'write on back' option. Thanks Sh0xWave

Thanks for the Artifact tip! I assumed thinking about Renee would be more explicit, I see it's more vague actually, and I can't rule out the possibility I prompted this during one of earlier runs.

Anyhoo, I redid the whole thing on a clean save, exhausting all the seemingly suitable, most honest and caring dialog options, doing the document analysis right, covering all the topics after Gastown, calling from phone booths every possible time, not spilling beans about her to anyone (except for Larry), paying attention to small things (asking about her book in the bookshop, hibiscus tea, tucking in etc.), and interacting with the Artifact correctly since I believed this was the only thing I was missing, but unfortunately it was a no go. :(

This thing's trickier than expected, heh. :D

Wonder what voids the trophy. Is it some action, even not directly related to Renee? Or one small certain dialog line which blows the whole thing out of the water?

I have an idea, but it seems like a stretch though. Will give it a try in a couple of days.

It's probably something silly, like picking the right tea, haha. FWIW, I chose Hibiscus in my last run.

I always made sure to take into consideration that small things like tucking Renee in when she lies down on the couch or, making her favorite tea (Hibiscus), could determine whether you get the achievement or not, and I always made sure to do all the small things like this. I even made sure to ask Renee what she thought about each document when you’re analyzing them, but I still couldn't seem to be able to get the achievement. I'm going to assume that this is just a bug, I'll make sure to delete and then reinstall the game or save files before my next attempt at getting the achievement.

Anybody get an update to this? Backbone was at the top of my Recently installed list when I checked my queue just now.

EDIT: I could by lying. I think my queue just hadn't refreshed or something.
