How to unlock the Level 30 achievement in The Outer Worlds - Definitive Guide

This achievement is self-explanatory.

Also FYI - I went into the last mission on Tartarus with only a few thousand XP in to level 28. I was able to gain two full levels in the final mission.

I’m mentioning this because the game ends immediately following the final mission. I was worried that I would not hit it and that I would have to reload an old save and do some side missions instead. I’m not exactly sure how much XP exactly the final mission yields, but again it was enough to level me from 28 to 30.

I believe the patch means you can return and do side/companion missions after landing in Tartarus now.

I managed to get from 25% of the way through level 28 to level 30 in the final mission. I had to kill everyone including any allies that showed up to help. I managed to get to level 29 and 75% of the way to 30 by the time I got to the objective. When I interacted with them, I got 79K xp which pushed me over the edge and unlocked my achievement as the final cutscenes played.

Also I did this solo with no companions, try unlocking all the door you can too for extra XP.

@Har Miggido You believe wrong. There is no endgame, once you start the final mission there is no going back. Game over man!

How much XP do you gain from the last mission? I'm level 28 aswell and I'm sneaking around everywhere and when I pick up the key card to free Phineas I don't even go up 1 level, and then the game ends so what level do you actually need to be at to get level 30?

I finished the game at lvl 20 with awesome gear. Creative energy weapon build. Its pretty annoying that you cant go back.

I reached lvl 30 after I completed the main Monarch quest. Right when I returned to Sofia and talk to her.
I recommend to do all companion quests as they give you a tons of XP. I didn't even finished all side quest on monarch, really!

I’ve done every side quest I’ve got, all companion quests. Must be missing some stuff to get leveled a bit before the last bit.

The achievement is unlocked when you reach level 30 during a single playthrough. It is missable because it is easy to get to the point of no return well before level 30. You may expect to level up once or twice after landing on Tartarus. However, if you are below level 28 when Tartarus becomes available as a destination, do some leveling before going there and triggering the point of no return.

The achievement becomes much easier to get if one's intent is to play one or both of the DLCs. The base game is capped at level 30. Each of the two DLCs raises the cap by 3 levels. If one is only playing the base game and is playing efficiently--no grinding for the sake of XP--one may reach the point of no return at around level 25 even if all tasks, side quests, faction quests, and companion quests are completed.

Accordingly, if you feel you are not leveling fast enough and are not going to play either DLC, make it a point to earn extra XP by taking every opportunity for a skill check, a lockpick, a hack, and discovering locations—vending machines, workbenches, and named places on the map—to help you level up.

On the other hand, if you plan to play through Peril on Gorgon for The Outer Worlds and/or Murder on Eridanos for The Outer Worlds, you can take a much more relaxed approach to this achievement. This is especially the case because either or both of the DLCs can be started from the system save file created upon reaching the point of no return. So, you can play the DLC(s) knowing the precise target you need to attain to put this achievement within reach.

Gaining level 30 is easier if you play everyone against one another.
Story difficulty earns you the most XP per kill and quest completion. Hard offers less.
Complete as many side quests as possible and all companion quests.

*MISSABLE*

This one's a bit obvious, but does take some effort. You will want to complete most side-quests and fight most hostile enemies in the game to get plenty of extra experience, and invest in your dialog skills to pass speech checks for more bonus xp. If you are thorough, it won't be an issue hitting Level 30 before the end of the game. If you reach the point of no return and still don't have this, head back to previous locations and find some more things to do.

To get level 30, you must complete all main and side tasks, as well as faction and partner tasks, from the very beginning of the game. Complete the main tasks in parallel until the final point of choice (capture of "Hope"), for whom you will ultimately sign up. Pick doors and locks, hack computers when the opportunity arises. In dialogues, choose options with a skill check. Then you will approach the final mission with level 29 half filled.

If you are not lazy to find and complete all the side quests, you will get level 30 after playing 70-80% of the game. Received level 30 before flying to Nadezhda.

If you, like me, have already completed almost all the additional quests, made the jump to Nadezhda, and saved before the point of no return, and at the same time you are about level 28, then you don’t need to spend a long and tedious time using the guides to look for missed quests and complete them everything to the last, but better yet, boldly go to the last mission and along the way cut out all the enemies you can. There, killing a couple of enemies gives more HP than completing a side mission. And at the very end there is still 100k experience for the quest, it was precisely these 100k that were not enough for me and in the end I just needed experience up to level 30.
