There is a rather spartan guide for this game you find just by searching the internet but the comments for this particular trophy a not accurate. So, I decided to add something here.
When you go to the Basement first time you can trigger the requirements for three mutually exclusive trophies. This depends if you remove the message on the door or remove material from locked.
For anyone who is struggling to get the "status quo" trophy you must clear off the lip-stick message from the door and throw away a note.
The missing part is to listen to the conversation in room 508 when you return upstairs and complete the first code breaking of message torn into parts (shortly after wiping off the message on the door). It does not require you to finish the game. Also the note to throw away is the one in the locker, not the one on the door.
