How to unlock the Not a toy anymore achievement in A Plague Tale: Innocence - Definitive Guide
This guide is for upgrading the sling. Get to Chapter 10. While it's loading, press and hold until the chapter is loaded, then wait for a few seconds. Now, hold , then highlight an already-crafted upgrade (if you don't have one yet for that row, highlight the locked one to the right. Then, while holding like you normally would to craft ammunion, quickly select the one you want to craft, then keep holding and until the entire row is upgraded.
Here's a video showing it working:
I take no credit in the making of this video.
NOTE: When I did this on Xbox, I had made it to Chapter 14, then replayed Chapters 10-13 hoping to keep my upgrades. When I reached Chapter 15, my Chapter 10 upgrades were gone.
However, when I did it on PC, I used the glitch to complete the upgrades right when I got to Chapter 10 (through Chapter select obviously), and I was able to keep them for the rest of the game, allowing me to save my precious crafting materials for my weapons.
So try to go for these achievements before completing the chapter.

Thanks so much for this. The achievement was somewhat tedious!
In your instructions I'd suggest changing "Now use the RIGHT joystick to select the an item you can craft from the wheel." I was a bit confused as I had been playing with mouse and keyboard!
Cheers

Glitch still works on both XBOX and Windows as of 9/10/2022 (version: 1.10)
Original text guide and no commentary video here:
I'm only making this video WITH commentary since I personally had trouble reading and understanding the text tutorial and wanted to actually add commentary talking about how to do it. You can do this glitch very last or during your playthrough, it works every time. This glitch works on selecting Chapter 10 (Chapter X) because there's no cutscene at the beginning of the level.
(Yes I know I'm 3 years late on this game but I loved the game so much even if I only played it recently)

This achievement is for fully upgrading the Sling in one play through, you do NOT need to have the Pocket, Ammunition Bag, Attirail, or any of the alchemy stuff upgraded to factor into this (though it is possible to get them both in a single play through). Avoid crafting any ammunition that requires leather or fabric. Even though you're focusing on the sling, it won't hurt to upgrade your Pocket first (so you aren't leaving materials behind because your stacks are full).
If you missed this on your first shot, a full second play through is not required. Many people recommend starting at chapter 9 and playing on, but in general just explore and scavenge as much as you can.
One important note - starting a mission via chapter selection will start you with the inventory and upgrades you had when you FIRST completed the previous mission. For example, if on your first play through, you raced through Chapter 3 and started Chapter 4 with 1 piece of fabric, then did Chapter Select to re-play Chapter 3, this time ending with 12 fabric - it does not replace your original "state" - if at any point you chose Chapter Select on Chapter 3 again, you're starting with your original 1 fabric. This is the case for any Chapter you select - whatever you started that Chapter with originally is what you'll get.
You can continue replaying the game without any issues, but if know that you didn't do much scavenging on your first run through, either plan on doing chapter selection from an EARLY mission once, and re-playing from that point forward (Chapter 3 is the earliest you start collecting crafting materials), or bite the bullet and start a new save slot.

Glitch didn't work for me. I think it's patched with current version 1.08

The upgrade function for Amicia's sling is unlocked during Chapter 2 upon a brief tutorial. All six upgrades below are required to fully upgrade the sling.
Strings:
- Tier 1: Hitting enemies in the head kills them instantly (mandatory upgrade)
- Tier 2: Reduces the time it takes Amicia to get out and load her sling (7 Salpeter, 4 Fabric, 9 Cord, 1 Tool)
- Tier 3: The sling no longer makes any noise (10 Salpeter, 6 Fabric, 15 Cord, 1 Tool)
Pouch:
- Tier 1: Reduces the time required to achieve maximum accuracy of a shot (7 Alcohol, 3 Leather, 1 Tool)
- Tier 2: Reduces the reloading time of the sling (9 Alcohol, 7 Leather, 4 Cord, 1 Tool)
- Tier 3: Allows two shots in a row without reloading and recharging (10 Alcohol, 12 Leather, 9 Cord, 1 Tool)
Please refer to "Handfull of pockets" for upgrade tips.

A small life hack. When there is only one improvement left for the sling and you have the materials for it, you do this: Save it to the cloud or flash drive, then fully improve it and get a trophy for the sling, then load it again. This is such a small saving in materials)

There is nothing difficult in obtaining this trophy; you can get a pumped-up sling and pockets in one go without any downloads or glitches, if you carefully inspect the locations. Towards the end, I had already accumulated a supply of leather, fabric and rope (the least amount of leather, you need to be more careful here) which was no longer needed. I didn’t improve alchemy and crafted consumables when necessary, but I can’t say that I limited myself in their use (except for those that required a lot of resources and the game itself warned about this).
