How to unlock the You Can’t Keep Me Out! achievement in Alone in the Dark - Definitive Guide

UPDATE as of March 28th, 2024 (v1.03). The bug from the v1.02 patch has been fixed.

Locks are tracked across playthroughs so you don't need to do this all in one playthrough and you'll likely get this by normal play through both characters if you are also going for collectibles.

ONE NOTE - during Chapter 4, make sure you unbolt the door leading to the Ground Parlor BEFORE getting the Stairwell Key (otherwise the door is unlocked automatically) and Emily can also unlock the Stairwell before she is teleported into it so long as you get the key from Gray's office and unlock that gate before completing the Camera puzzle in Rose's room (otherwise you will get teleported to the other side of that Stairwell upon completing the WW1 section and can't unlock the gate).

In the event that this achievement ever breaks again, here is the previous workaround (using a physical copy of the game) that would allow users to unlock this achievement at a time when it was previously glitched:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As of March 27th, 2024 - this achievement can not be obtained on the current live version of the game (v1.02 on the main menu).

BUT there is a workaround IF you have access to the physical copy.

With a physical copy you need to:
  1. Delete your save data (at least locally).
  2. Delete the game.
  3. Go offline.
  4. Install the game from the disc.
  5. Start a new playthrough as Emily.
  6. I would suggest keeping open a guide and just getting as many collectibles as you can and always ensure you are opening any and all locks the moment you can (I used this guide: https://www.powerpyx.com/alone-in-the-dark-2024-all-collecti...).
  7. Make sure you are unlocking doors in every zone (the guide should call them all out).
  8. Make sure you open the safe in the Clerk's Office both in Chapter 2 and Chapter 4.
  9. Make sure you open the Medicine Box in Lottie's Room when you can.
  10. During Chapter 3, open the two doors in the temple that require you to smash debris behind them to open before the chase sequence.
  11. In Chapter 4, unbolt the Ground Parlor door BEFORE obtaining the stairway key from Dr. Gray's office.
  12. Unbolt the second floor Mezzanine door BEFORE progressing to the shipwreck area and double check it after (for me it stayed unlocked but PS users report it re-locking).
  13. Use the stairway key to access the lower lab area and advance into the shipwreck section (make sure to also unlock the two bolted doors in this area) BEFORE using the camera in Rose's room to do the WW1 sequence.
  14. When you are confident you've done everything you can, complete the WW1 sequence and the schematics puzzle following that to obtain the Truth key.
  15. Save the game here and quit.
  16. Update and if prompted to use local or online data, make sure you use local (note: any save slots you didn't re-use in the local play will refill with your network saves).
  17. Upon loading your manual save, you will need to restore power again and it appears like you also need to re-do the schematics puzzle but you don't - truth key should still be on you if you loaded the manual save and you can open the locked door to pop this achievement (and the unlock all achievements if this is your final one).
A few notes:
  • The bathroom connected to the sitting room was always blocked to me. Could never open it and seems that doesn't matter so don't stress if you see that area as blocked off the entire time.
  • There will be bugs but I, personally, never encountered a crash. The worst thing I saw was the lighting in the mansion completely breaking after I skipped the last cutscene for the shipwreck area and I once had to reload a save after skipping a scene and being stuck in t-pose.
  • Some level design changes are present and you will find less supplies.
  • Enemy placement is different so if you've played a handful of times and memorized everything - be prepared for a few surprises.
Hopefully a patch is rolled out soon that nullifies this entire walkthrough and fixes whatever is currently busted about the achievement.

No problem. Looks like a new update (v1.03) went live today (3/28) so this may not even be an issue anymore! Once that is confirmed I will delete this solution.

Their patch notes on Steam claim the v1.03 update has fixed the achievement.

Unlocked after patch. Works across playthroughs, like the other collectables, so you could re-load a chapter and unlock a door you forgot and achiev will pop (tried out only boat in my last save game, didn't pop, started new run with Emily and unlocked before boat)

Thank you for confirming! This guide is largely unnecessary now unless it ever gets broken again.

*GLITCHED*

There are 30 locks and safes in total, and some aren't entirely obvious. Just be sure to consult your map for locked doors, and be sure to unlock them when the opportunity presents itself. You should encounter every safe on the critical path as you play through the game, but locked and barricaded doors are a little trickier. Keep your eyes peeled.

This is glitched as unlocking all doors and safes simply doesn't earn the achievement.

The first safe you will encounter will be in the second chapter. Having opened the clerk's office with Batista's keys, there will be a safe in the far corner. You can honestly get a combination from him only in the 4th chapter. Once you return to Derceto Estate from the temple, go up to the second floor and check out Cassandra's room. There you will see a tooltip that says "Cassandra's Last Page", which contains the three-digit combination for the safe. But by opening the save in Chapter 2, you will receive a collectible item and hear a unique line. The combination is as follows: 913 (in order not to experience difficulties, remember that the first number is to turn to the left, the second is to turn to the right, the third is to turn left again)
Second safe - in Russian localization it is difficult to solve the puzzle. So you need to count the number of letters in the letter. The code will be 4-5-4

The third and final safe. I haven’t opened this safe yet, so I’ll borrow it from a foreign source.
If you're playing as Emily: 918 (Emily Hartwood's Wedding Ring)
If you are playing as Edward: 692 (Edward Carnby's license number).
Along with the objectives and key items you will receive in Chapter 4, you will also unlock an empty room. Reading the writing on the wall will give you your first clue on how to open the safe. These prompts will take you to the default items you already have in the Investigation tab. The license number is the key to Edward Carnby's security code, and the wedding ring is Emily Hartwood's.

The trophy is buggy and does not drop out at the moment, although it was unlocked for both characters.

A patch was released for the PC version that corrected this achievement. The trophy dropped when, in the story, he opened the door to the operating room in the basement. Maybe it will work on PS5 too.

I loaded the save of chapter 4 in the morgue for Emily, made before the patch, after the flood I didn’t go upstairs, but went down to the administrator’s office and opened the safe with the key to the doctor’s office - the trophy fell out!

As you progress through the game, you'll have to encounter each safe along the critical path, but locked and barricaded doors are a bit more challenging. Stay alert.
This is a mistake, because if you open all the doors and safes, you simply will not receive the prize.

For those who have the disk version:
Method 1
1. Go through the company as Edward, collecting everything and everyone and opening all the doors.
2. Uninstall the game, turn off the Internet and install the game without a patch.
3. Start a company for Emily, open everything and everyone.
4. At some point, the game as Emily will stop (you won’t be able to climb the stairs)
5. Turn on the Internet, install the patch, go to Greenland.
6. Go to the menu and start a company for Edward.
7. Go to the first safe and enter the combination 913, the trophy will appear.

Method 2
1. Delete all saves and game files
2. Install the version from the disk without a patch with the Internet turned off
3. Start a campaign for Emily, open all the doors and containers (not forgetting about Lottie’s medicine box and the globe)
4. First complete the Bayou Steamboat flashback, then complete the World War 1 flashback.
5. After receiving the key of truth (game crashes are possible), update the game with a patch.
6. Open the door with the key of truth and the trophy will fall out (2nd playthrough for Carnaby is not necessary)

Trophies only drop from opening the safe in the administrator's room and only on chapter 4. I tried all different methods and this is the only thing that came out. Possibly for a man

If the game started on an unpatched version and the trophy does not drop, then you need to delete all saves in the game and make a fastran for any character.
Saves can only be deleted in the game; files in the console do not need to be deleted.
After that, my trophy dropped for Emily on the administrator's safe at the beginning of Chapter 4.
