I played expert mode and took my time.
However if you're looking to power boost it, then I recommend spending extra time in the Hunting Range in chapter 1, then the first dungeon in chapter 2, and then get a huge boost by spending time fighting in the water area for Lita's class quest. You'll be barely surviving those fights in the beginning, but it's totally worth it.
If you spend enough time there, you'll be strong enough to open up Silvara in chapter 4 and you can go craft end game gear early.
The final levels come from the final area of the game.

This is fairly self-explanatory. The amount of experience required to level up toward the end of this will be quite high, but a group of 4-5 enemies in the final area of the game should get 10-20% of a level each, so it's not that bad. You'll probably be ready for the final boss before this point, but the extra levels are a nice help.
