How to unlock the Enemy Fighter achievement in ARCADE GAME SERIES: GALAGA - Definitive Guide

I got this one on level 5 just to suggest a level to try to get this on. Make sure you have at least 2 lives remaining before going for this! An enemy that shoots down the tractor beam to abduct you will eventually appear. Get into the path of the beam and don't shoot or else you may destroy it, which will release you. You'll see the enemy that abducted you at the top of the level with a red Fighter over it, shoot it. Once you kill the enemy and the Fighter the achievement will unlock.

If you think this solution can be improved tell me by commenting, and if you dislike please tell me why. Thanks! smile

You could improve the solution by adding the proper name of the enemy - Galagan Commander: http://galaga.wikia.com/wiki/Galagan_Commander

I shoot it and I just turn into a duel ship?

You have to shoot the enemy that abducts you and the red ship. Just shooting down the enemy will turn you into a duel ship.

I think the issue here is that if you shoot the boss fighter whilst it is flying around, you end up with a dual ship.

Apparently, if you shoot the boss ship whilst it is immobile at the top of the screen, the captured fighter remains red and you can shoot it down. I would add this to the solution for clarity.

Comment for why you dislike please! Seriously, I don't know why this is getting down voted, the other solution is the same thing just with a video instead?...

I kept turning into a duel ship as well... even if i tried to shoot them both, so what i did was when the abductor ship and the red captured ship start to charge to the bottom of the screen, i aimed to crash into the red ship with my ship, the achievement unlocked immediately laugh

So I feel like I found an easier way to do this. Level 5 is a good pick, and just for safety make sure you set yourself to 5 lives in the settings. On wave 2, 4 Galagan Commander's (the teal ones) will spawn, I recommend not shooting on this wave to keep them healthy. Try to clear waves 1, 3, 4, and 5 as best you can.

Now you'll probably have missed some after all the waves come in, so try to get rid of all or most the rabble without killing the Galagan Commander's. Luckily these guys take two hits to kill (they turn purple after the first hit) so if you are a little careful you'll be able to keep a couple alive.

When a Commander shoots his tractor beam go inside and get captured. You will lose a life and that Commander will have a little red ship buddy now. This achievement is for shooting down the RED SHIP and not the Commander himself! I found this a little tricky as the Red Ship sticks to him like glue and I'd accidentally shoot the Galagan Commander instead, giving me 2 ships and no achievement - so here's the real hot tip:

You don't actually have to shoot it down. What I did instead is I simply ran into the red ship with my ship, killing us both and getting the achievement.

The alternative method as mentioned by @z0rrofox is a bit different. You can also kill the Galagan Commander with the captured Red Ship when he is 'inactive' at the top of the screen, in which case the Red Ship will just sit there waiting to die. The strategy here is actually to leave some enemies alive, as your prey will sit at the top of the screen longer giving you more time to shoot them down. It's a balancing act though, as leaving too many alive will make it harder to stay alive yourself

This can be done on stage 1 (or any other stage really, but to keep it simple, do it on 1).

1. Ensure that you have at least 1 life left and let your fighter be captured.
2. It is important to not shoot a lot of enemies before this happens because you want the capturing ship to stop at the top row after it has captured your fighter and not be in an endless diving loop -- if it's diving, you cannot get the trophy.
3. After your fighter is captured, wait till the ship which captured your fighter is at the top of the screen, and NOT diving.
4. Shoot the capturing ship, then shoot your captured ship.
5. The trophy will unlock.

The trophy itself is not as simple as it seems, first your fighter must fall under the beam of an enemy ship and turn red, after which it will constantly be behind the enemy ship that captured it and bomb you.
2 possible scenarios:
1. At high levels, getting into a red ship without killing the enemy is almost impossible; if you destroy the enemy, the red fighter will turn white and return to us doubling our firepower. There are literally millimeters and fractions of a second to catch it from the side. But I found a way to make this trophy EXTREMELY EASY, we wait for the red-enemy pair to reach the bottom border of the screen and soon disappear, or rather the enemy is already hiding from view, we sharply and sideways trip and ram the red fighter, i.e. We sacrifice ourselves, but in the end, the red one is destroyed and the trophy is yours.
2. If you don’t want to strain yourself at all, then at the first level, let the beam catch you, the enemy and the red fighter will stand on top for a long time and slow down, we kill the enemy and the red one does not return to us, he is also on top, then we just shoot him.

The trophy is much easier to make than described above.
when the ship is captured, we need to shoot down the enemy who is holding us captive before he launches an attack (i.e., dangling in his place), then our ship will detach itself and shoot at us, and then we shoot it down.
