Traits are unlocked on the end game screen after completing a successful Quick Game scenario, wherein the condition to unlock the trait is met.
The trait Nanny is unlocked by reaching the Eye with 3 or more pupils more than you started with. Pupils join the tribe via trade with friendly caravans, which often appear twice during a halt after the first halt. The pupils have random traits when they join, but their cost (for that halt) is a set price, so usage of cloud-save abuse is suggested if a resource needs to be prioritized for the trades. Don't forget to build and upgrade the Camp, as well as the Caravan research, to accommodate the extra Pupils.
