I got this in Free Play. This unlocked at my 100th barrel. I first tried to restart the race and explode 50 barrels total, that didn't work (or it's a buggy achievement). So I finished the 3 laps in Free Play 4 times exploding 10+ barrels each race. I had around 10 barrels from career mode. Unlocks mid-game.
It seems like you have to complete the races for it to count towards the total.
Track: Shalik Sands. A.I. Easy/Normal. (I played on Normal).

I did this while going for the 10 split screen achievement and i did all 3 races after I won my 5 lap achievement. I think you might need to do it in 3 laps races but I cant confirm this as I read the guides first. Thanks for puting this up.

First, I just play on carreer mode to finish all races on gold (N-Dura, Evo GT & Protech).
Then i go on free play to get the achievement "Tis But a Scratch" and it pop during the race, not after it (you can see it on the video).
Simply hit red barrel on the road, they explode after few seconds.
On free play, you can set 3 laps on the first race "Shaluk sands", there are many barrels to explode.
