How to unlock the Car Lover achievement in Battlefield 3 - Definitive Guide

Make sure you play this on easy.

There will be three waves of enemies that you need to defend your Humvees from. This is actually pretty easy if you prepare properly for it. All your Humvees need to make it through, none can be destroyed IN ANY SECTION.

First wave: There will be a bunch of enemies rushing down from the far left hand side when you start off. They are pretty simple, just pick them off one by one till the first tank appears. The tanks will take three Javelin rockets each to destroy them. Have you and your partner take it out as soon as you spot it. We did this wave with one person on the bridge and the other below.

Second wave: This wave one of you should grab a sniper rifle as your primary weapon. The enemies will start rushing from the left hand side of the bridge. Have the sniper watch the far right building as there will be RPGs (one or two) that will appear and try to level your Humvees. Have the sniper take them out while the other player takes out the other enemies on the ground. A tank will appear from the left hand side alley and you need to take it out before it clears that area. Both of you need to use your Javelins to take this out. You can try and put mines down, but we did not have much luck as the enemies seemed to take them out. However, others have had luck with this, so if you are struggling, toss some down.

Third Wave: You have to switch areas now. This will happen on the far right hand side. Grab some ammo and follow the Humvees heading over. Have one person still using the sniper rifle as there will be a few RPG guys and snipers in the building at the end of the area to take out. Once again you have to fight off a bunch of enemies. There will be one or two tanks that will show up this time ( We lucked out an only had one) that need to be taken out with Javelin rockets. This is the only real tricky part of the level since there will actively be enemies warming in faster and both snipers/RPGs to deal with. Once person should climb up on the building on the right hand side above the ammo crate and Humvees(there is also ammo on the roof). Here they will be able to snipe the RPGs and Snipers at the far end, plus watch for the tanks that roll in. The non-sniper should dispatch the rest of the ground enemies as best as possible.

The achievement will pop before you evacuate if you save all your Humvees.

for the second tank if you just place several mines down were the tank drives at the beginning of the mission, it will be destroyed without wasting time shooting javelins

It's pretty easy but sometimes the game can glitch. I got the achievement on 2nd attempt but I've done the level loads of times and on the odd occasion you can get 3 or 4 tanks on the first location. Don't know what causes that to happen.

There are only 5 humvees in this section all of them need to be there at the end in order for the achievement to pop. All of them need to be in tack. None of them can be destroyed. I thought that was pretty clear in the description.

By the way, we unlocked the achievement earlier so I know what I'm talking about.

Cormac. I will edit the solution, I thought it made sense but I guess I have to be overly specific with some people.

First time we finished the level on Normal we scarpered when the chopper came and all five humvees were still alive. Before the chopper took off one of them got blown up. Don't know how.

We just did it again earlier on Easy and all five humvees were still intact when the chopper took off but the achievement didn't pop for either player. Neither of us were impressed.

My friend and I just did it again and at the end we had five humvees and still no achievement. We decided we may aswell finish it on Hard since the achievement is eluding us and after the second wave when you move down the east road we only had 3 humvees left. When we got on the rooftop on the east road there were five humvees magically respawned in the street below.

It would appear that you need to make sure no humvees die in any section of the level. Having five left at the end does not guarantee the achievement. Best we can figure it is during wave two when the enemies and tank come from the alley on the west, the RPG guys on the roof must be taking out some of our humvees.

Couldn't test this out because my friend kept disconnecting and we were pissed off with not getting the achievement.

If you're going to write a solution make sure you know what you're talking about.

But if any of the first set of five die before you move onto the east road they respawn so it looks like you haven't lost any. I appreciate that your solution is quite specific about not losing any humvees having re-read it but you need to make a note that if you do lose any before the third wave then you may aswell restart. We couldn't understand why we were failing and your solution wasn't very enlightening.

I did downvote but if you include this note to make it a little more clear then I'll change my vote. Essentially your solution is pretty accurate but considering it is missing a vital piece of information it is not complete. You've stated that you cannot lose any humvees. It should read, you cannot lose any humvees IN ANY SECTION BUT BEWARE BECAUSE THEY RESPAWN MAKING IT LOOK LIKE YOU HAVE ALL FIVE LEFT WHEN YOU FINISH THE LAST SECTION.

Comprende?

In the 3´rd part of the mission, climb on to the roof on your right behind the ammobox and simply use your grenate launcher to destroy the building at the end of the street...remember the balcony on the right.

Then no RPG´s and snipers will appear...you only have to deal with the one or two tanks later on...

Thanks for the video. It really helped to get the visual on what to expect. I had good luck setting 3 mines in the alleyway where the second vehicle comes from. It blew as soon as it passed the building. Thanks again. Just ignore the negative voter that left no feedback...they must just be to shitty to complete the achievement.

Since playing this for the past moth I have hardly put any achievements up I don't know if its because there is such a good community because most of the gamers are mature unlike most of the COD players who are aged 13-14 and below who send messages saying you are hacking if you keep killing them and I find there is a greater amount of strategy required.

Achievements: Car Lover
Difficulty: 6/10
Notes: Co-op needed

Many have complained about this being one of the hardest achievements in the game. Honestly, almost any co-op specific achievement is difficult, but there are a few steps to make this entire process so much easier.

First, you're going to want to set the difficulty to "Easy". Other than an achievement, there is no reason to put it on Hard or Normal, and especially if you are planning on earning any co-op mission-specific achievements. For this, you must load up "Operation Exodus", a map that takes place within the second mission of the SP campaign. Make SURE you play with a friend, because it is a universal rule that randoms in co-op games will suck. In the beginning, both players grab a Javelin and stock up on ammo. To be honest, even though you start with an LMG with plenty of ammo, I found myself choosing a good ol' M16A3, just because of the accuracy. Basically, both players go up to the catwalk, for the first two-to-three minutes, it will be all infantry. Then, tanks will start to roll through the streets from the left side right in front of you, impossible to miss. Both players communicate, and take turns firing rockets at the tank. It took me three rockets to blow one tank up on easy, and there are a few tanks from the front.

Then, your objective will shift to your right, and you must then protect that area. Same deal, infantry first, then tanks. REMEMBER TO STOCK UP ON AMMO!! I cannot stress enough that getting caught in a situation where you and your partner are out of Javelin ammo, the achievement will fly out the window. Ammo piles move upon the objective moving, so it is made convenient to you that you USE THEM!!

Finally, you will me made to move to an area behind you from your last objective. The best place to embed yourself is in the roof of the building right next to you, look for a ladder and then leap over the small wall right in front of you upon climbing up the ladder. Notice the all-too-convenient ammo box right on the roof next to you, making this the easiest of the three portions of the mission. Take the units out, then take turns Javelin' the tanks, and BAM! The achievement is officially earned.

Please leave comments if you would like me to edit my solution, or if you'd just like to thank me and tell me how awesome I am!

In the co-op mission "Operation Exodus", you get a line of Hummers to help you defend each of the lines (North/West/East). Just complete the mission without any of these Hummers getting destroyed to get this.
