How to unlock the Semper Fidelis achievement in Battlefield 3 - Definitive Guide

*THERE WILL BE SPOILERS FURTHER DOWN*
The main purpose for me posting this solution, besides the fact there`s none else up yet is so you know in all honesty Battlefield's games Hard difficulty aren't really that bad. At least compared to the hair pulling, sometimes rage inducing portions of other FPS games on Veteran. If you've ever completed a previous Battlefield or Medal of Honour on Hard give this a go right off the bat to save yourself an additional play through. If you've completed any COD on Hardcore or higher you should be fine as well.

Not to say there won't be difficult portions of this title, there will be, but none that are impossible. I`ve never come close to running out of ammo, the game always give you the correct weapon types for the situations ahead and you should never be confused which way to go next. Just take your time, use cover and wait for your squad to take point unless you're the point man. The AI is pretty good in this game and although they won't do all the killing, what would the fun in that be really?, they do a good job of eliminating a good deal of threat.

The couple difficult sections I can remember I had to retry a few times * SPOILERS SPOILERS * are:

On Comrades preceding the nuke detonation in Paris, coming out of the bank leading up to the

I was trying to go for the
Battlefield 3The ProfessionalThe The Professional achievement in Battlefield 3 worth 62 pointsComplete the street chase in Comrades in under 2 minutes 30 seconds without dying
at the same time while playing this on Hard...not a good idea. You need to grab cover, engage those in your way and only move up when the other two guys do or you`re pretty much dead after you run onto the street from the bank.

On Thunder Run, immediately preceding
Battlefield 3Scrap MetalThe Scrap Metal achievement in Battlefield 3 worth 38 pointsDestroy 6 enemy tanks before reaching the fort in Thunder Run

These enemy tanks will light you up if you don't dispatch of them quickly. Make no mistake, keep on the move and don't be a standing target or the mission failed screen is sure to appear shortly.

On Night Shift immediately after obtaining
Battlefield 3Secret AchievementThe Secret Achievement achievement in Battlefield 3 worth 27 pointsContinue playing to unlock this secret achievement

I stayed crouched behind the first coupe on the road to your right, engaged the enemies as they came in ahead of me and every few moments I checked around the back side of the car because two or three enemies come from there and try to blow up your cover.

You may become pinched at other parts in the game, but if you do the three things I`ve mentioned; take your time, use cover, and let your squad take point and do some killing it becomes a lot less challenging. If all else fails, take a break from it. Seriously a fresh set of eyes and reduced stress can make all the difference. I can`t tell you how many times I`ve sat and tried to beat something just to get frustrated, put it aside for a short bit, came back and was able to knock it off on the next shot.

Hope this helped save you an extra play through because even though this was a decent, griping story and a beautiful game, we know the meat and potatoes of a Battlefield title is the multiplayer ;)

Gotten pretty far with only dying some 200 times and screamed profanities at my TV a few times, but the mall shootout at the end of Night Shift got me stumped. The moment I open fire I'm pretty much dead. All the videos I've seen have the enemies pretty much just standing around, not shooting all that much but for me it's a constant bullet storm and instant death at the first or second wave. Any tips?

if you're talking about the portion where you have Al Bashir bleeding out and you're defending the second level I put claymores at the bottom of the escalators, crouched or went prone behind pillars for cover and sniped the enemies using the night vision scope peeking out when I could. After you move him down the hall to the next store I went prone behind the box in front of the store facing the direction of the store you were in first. Enemies funnel down the hallway towards you making it easy to take them out. The enemies that are on the corridor across from you and the level above can be sniped from behind the same cover as well.

Bad Company 2 was probably the easiest game ever on hard, but I prefer the game to be easy (if you play it right) than near impossible such as Black Ops Veteran.

^But Black Ops Veteran was one of the easier of the COD campaigns!

Nice guide.

I have a question - does anyone know if there's any difficulty unlocking this achievement if you do what I've done:

I played through the first 3 missions on hard, then replayed the third mission on easy while going for the "You can be my wingman anytime" achievement. Then when I go to "replay missions" I can't pick the 4th mission onwards on hard, I have to do them on easy. Will I be able to replay the third mission on hard and continue on through the rest of the game to get the achievement, or do I have to replay right from the start on hard? It has definitely given me credit for the first 3 missions on hard.

@Mr Kryten I found it hard because of the infinite spawns I prefer killing all the enemies than advancing.

I switched to easy with 3 missions to go to work on some of the other achievements. I expected to just redo those last three missions on hard to get this achievement but it doesn't let me. Looks like I really would have to do an entire play-through on hard to get this achievement. Ugh.

@xLoCk Onx.
I had the same issue while playing on normal. You'll have to replay the last mission you did, "3rd", on hard and then continue to the next mission. It will carry the difficulty to teh 4th and so on. Just remember anytime you replay a mission before finishinfg the campaign, you're gonna get stiuck having to replay your last story mission in order to carry over the difficulty. I stopped going back until I was done the campaign to avoid the hassle.

What do you have to do to unlock hard difficulty. I don't have it but I already beat the campaign on normal.

@ Full Tilt Panic

Thats just lazy development to me, and it's one of the things that makes me hate DICE so much. I clearly beat the game once on normal, hard should remain available for all missions thereafter.

I remember ONE part in Black Ops 1 I had trouble with on Veteran, And that was the last two tunnels/corridors on Executive Order, eventually after dying LOADS of times, I restarted the level and kept all my smoke/grenades till that part, then it was relatively easy. Same problem I had at the start of the level Breaking Point in World at War, restarted the level, rushed to the supply drop, then it was easy enough.

May i also point out that this is a modern military shooter, meaning the Ai enemies will shoot you first and not at your Ai team mates(just as the CoD games). At some points in the game it will say follow the Ai, well if its in a combat area the enemies will shoot at you first and not at the Ai you are suppost to follow, witch results in a quick death. I allso found that laying down in combats where you are suppost to hold a area helped a lot and just let the enemies come running at you, heck laying down helped me many times in the story during most combats. If i where to chose between Ai and laying down, then laying down any day.

Here is a link to a walkthrough of the game on hard with full commentary. There's only a couple spots that are remotely challenging, but either way it should aid anyone struggling.

When playing Operation Guillotine, I found a very easy of making it through the U-turn section after trying for hours to get past that part. After taking out the first two nests, when you're starting the second half of the U, pick off all of the guys to the left side and then hug the left wall, picking off enemies as necessary. It's much simpler. However, your guides have been extremely helpful. Thanks. :)

This is VERY important to know before you do hard difficulty. As many people do they play the game on hard and at the same time go for the mop up achievements. Now when you go to replay mission in the menu it will let you select any mission on hard, normal, or easy. DO NOT put it on easy or normal especially for the professional achievement. Play the game on easy first and get the mop up achievements and get more experienced with the game before you go on hard and play through it. The reason I am saying all of this is because once you change the difficulty to normal or easy, you CANNOT switch back to hard and finish the game. You will have to restart the game all over again even if you completed all but 1 mission on hard and went on any other mission and put it on easy, you will have to still restart. Very important and you wouldn't want to end up like me and have to do half the game on hard all over again.

Okay so once you play on easy first and just get all the mop up achievements, start a new game on hard.

First thing you should know is that hard is very easy to die on, and your auto aim is turned off. Even though it may sound difficult you should have no problem completing the game on hard after a few tries on each mission you should be able to get this achievement in a day or two.

Tips - Even if your not that good at the game it is still very easy to do.
1. Do what ever you are instructed to do (follow, take cover, head to a certain area, ect.)
2. Take cover and pick off the enemies, 1 at a time. If you get hit even once just take cover and wait for your health to come back to full and pop back out of cover and repeat until you have cleared out the area.
3. Reload - When you are reloading make sure you are in cover or the area is safe. If there are ANY enemies around take cover to reload.
4. Patience - This is a really important key to completing the game on hard. Without patience you will die much more times. Find some cover and just kill people and take cover and wait for your health to full regenerate. Sometimes your team will kill some enemies and help you out a lot.
5. Be prepared to die. You will die almost every mission except for maybe the first and 4th mission. If you are stuck on a part and getting angry you will just keep loosing and make you more angry. Instead do a mission or 2 at a time and take a break or go play multiplayer.

I hope this helped someone sorry for no videos.

It's actually really easy. Just make sure to take your time and you should be fine. Just follow this video. There is one for each mission. Enjoy!

Complete all the missions on Hard difficulty. Playing on hard, enemies seem to develop a 6th sense and they will notice you and lay lots of supressing fire. Take advantage of cover and prone, peek out to kill 1-2 enemies at a time and then shrink back into cover. It is also very easy to get killed (usually in 1-2 shots if relatively close), so if you start getting hit, quickly find cover.

Also, take advantage of any flanking routes/walls and abuse them if you want to get by missions quicker. This is similar to Call of Duty where you kind of have to force your squadmates through the mission. They are also invincible, so use that to your advantage.

Story achievement. Unlocks after completing the campaign on the maximum difficulty level. I advise you to take your time and try to use grenades and shoot enemies from cover more often.

Not an easy feat! You must always look for cover and lie down; wait for your partners to clear the path a little, and DON’T RUN - always wait!!! Running is death)))
