How to unlock the Two Faced achievement in Beyond a Steel Sky - Definitive Guide

I received the positive ending with Songbird by acing the interview with Mentor Alonso and then reuniting her with her Bilby stuffed toy later in the story. I'd read that you then need to go back as far as the interview again in order to flunk it and incinerate her toy to get the negative ending, or start a whole new playthrough if you don't have a suitable save. Fortunately it turns out that you don't need to go back that far. Instead, keep a save just after receiving the Bilby stuffed toy that you can go back to, incinerate the toy and continue from there. Doing this was enough to tip things the other way and get the negative ending in the shortest time possible. The achievement unlocks after the cutscene with Songbird and Alonso as Rob enters the control room at the city walls. 👍

Further information:

It appears there are at least three interactions you can have with Songbird that influence her ending:

1) ace or flunk the interview
2) incinerate or return the toy
3) show her the photo of the kidnapped child found with the hololens

It appears that completing 2 of the 3 above in a positive fashion is enough to secure the good ending, while having 1 of 3 or less will give the bad ending, hence the above method working.

During my playthrough and partial playthrough I did not show her the photo (I tried early in the story but Rob said he wanted to keep it under his hat for the time being, and luckily I didn't try again), which triggers an emotional chat about Graham. So if you intend to use the above method, don't show her the photo at any point as you'll then get the positive ending even if you don't return the Bilby toy. A good indication of whether it is working properly is the compulsory chat with Songbird before heading off to the Aspiration Gala - she was noticeable more hostile during my negative ending partial playthrough.

I can confirm that this works. I made a save right after you get out of the LINC for the first time. Just go down the ladder and save by the furnace burner. Once you’ve done the good ending for Songbird(and completed the game) just reload that save, toss the toy in, and play until the control room section as mentioned. Saves a ton of time and it’ll only take you a few hours, if that.

This didn't work for me. I threw Bilby down the furnace to be incinerated and didn't show Songbird a pic of the kidnapped child either. Songbird was very negative after that and sided with Alonzo and I still did not get the achievement. It looks like I am going to have to do a third interview and fail the Alonzo interview as well.

@FireDrake007 if she sided with Alonso at the end of the game the achievement definitely should have popped so I'm not sure that it's the method at fault. Did you try reloading and quickly going through the cutscene at the control room again? Either way sorry you don't have your achievement 😑

Thanks for saving an hour or two of gameplay for me. I can confirm your method works. I made a manual save once I got the Bilby toy. Don't want to repeat what the guide said but just follow through it and you'll eventually unlock it right after

MISSABLE

If you know about this trophy going in, you can get the Platinum in 1.5 playthroughs instead of 2 full ones.

The first step of this trophy involves the quiz with Alonso (Interview Jeopardy trophy_bronze.png).  Make sure you get all the questions correct - see that trophy for the answers.

The second step (and where you want to make a separate save before making decisions) happens after returning from meeting Leet and entering MINOS for the first time. You will be in possession of both a photograph and a plushy.  Assuming you aced the quiz with Alonso, then the two Songbird endings come down to whether you give her these two items or not.

Whatever you choose for your first playthrough, finish the game. Once you've finished it, reload the save I told you to make, then choose the opposite action. You should notice that Songbird's conversation with you at the monopod is different than the first time around. Play through the game until you deal with her and Alonso at the City Walls, then this trophy will unlock.

Receiving one or the other scene is affected by the following:
- pass the interview without errors (the need to study all subjects to find answers is also mentioned, but this is inaccurate)
- return/burn a lost toy (it is also mentioned that you don’t have to burn it, but simply not return it)
- show/hide the photo (lies in the box along with the broken lens)
You can return items before putting on the holiday costume, but it’s better to do this immediately after returning with the toy (or not if you want a bad ending)

How to understand that everything is going right:
1) in an interview, Alonso will not name another answer to your answer
2) before leaving for the holiday party, there will be no choice to say where Graham is going in his outfit (he will immediately tell the whole truth; if he has a bad attitude, there will be a choice to lie or tell the truth) and the songbird will be with him in the next cutscene
3) on the wall after loading the children into the truck, it is the songbird that will help Graham (in fact, this will be a good ending). Joey will be of great help
