How to unlock the Bearing the Burden achievement in Call of Duty: World at War - Definitive Guide
OK, other tips: First big room: Take out the guy on the balcony to the left, then make a mad dash (push down on left stick) to the right. You can take a quick breather behind the downed column (go prone), but the idea is to get to the corner that separates the room you enter with the room to the right. There is a great corner to hide in L-shaped column, don't go into the next room just yet). From here you can rifle a couple guys in the next room, then dash behind a crate. From here, get the guys under the scaffolding (turn left) before storming the next room.
From here on, it's pretty straightforward, until you get to the roof.
First thing I did was snipe the guy with the panzerschreck (upper left balcony).
Then the obvious guy across the way and to the left.
Now I just snipped the other 2 or 3 guys that hide across the way.
Once they are down, you need to move to the left.
Try to snipe the guys behind the next crates (use tight corners to shoot them in the arms for a one-shot kill).
You eventually get the 3 or 4 guys down.
The rooms to the left are straightforward too.
Once it's clear, it's back to the main path.
Once you are back out in the open, there's another guy with a panzerschreck (up and to left). Take him out first (you should be hiding behind the barricade, not the sandbags).
Now snipe as many others as you can and the level should open up.
Good luck!

What's interesting is that I recently finished Call of Duty Classic, and got to see the nearly the same scene over again. It was quite cool.
TIP: Be sure to save ammo for the PTRS-41 sniper rifle you picked up on the balcony, there's more ammo for it to the right of it. It'll come in handy for the top floor, so just use your rifle to take down the flamethrower guys. Not sure if I got lucky here, but when it came to the top floor I forgot to save ammo for the sniper. By the time I backtracked through the level to pick up more ammo and made it back, my team had done most of the work.
Shouldn't be a major problem, any queries just send me a message. Can give some advice on HotR too, completed that very recently.
If you played the game in order on Veteran, then this is the last mission.
1. Cover is your God in this game, use it to its maximum. Veteran requires you to be good at covering yourself. Remember, you can get killed by three shots anywhere. Most of the cover you find is simply not suited to you standing up, so press when at cover, it also makes you a smaller target. Sometimes prone can help a lot, even though you are on the ground you may be able to see your enemy.
2. The most common problem is grenades. Watch your grenade indicator at all times. In Veteran, enemies spam grenades like crazy and with pinpoint accuracy; so you sometimes get the feeling that it's impossible. The best way to avoid grenades is to throw them straight back if you can, if you can't though simply run into the nearest cover or at least get out of the grenades range, but watch for enemies shooting. You don't want to run into their bullets now, do ya?
3. Checkpoints, these damn things are ill-placed and so random. If you played through on a lower difficulty, try to remember where you got your last checkpoint on whatever mission you are doing. Try thinking about how you got to it and you might have a useful tactic.
4. Patience is the key on Veteran; if you don't have it then simply don't play Veteran. The grenades and endless enemies may make you want to go all Rambo-esque and run out, but you'll die more than likely within a second or two, so watch out.
5. Your teammates, they are a godsend at times and incredibly stupid at others. They are helpful, so use them closely. You have to push yourself into the enemies to get your teammates to move up, unless you want them to stand there shooting the sky? They are also handy for ammo if you need it, simply kill one of the privates by 'accident' and retrieve his ammo, but don't kill anyone past the rank of private, or else it will restart from the last checkpoint.
6. Smoke grenades are key to getting along in the American missions, they really do help a lot. So if you have them, use them to distract enemy MG nests or even to hide the enemies view so you can kill them.
- Patience is the most important thing, but don't be too patient. Never start a battle without other soldiers nearby. They will make your life much easier. There are a lot of places in the game where enemies spawn endlessly, in such places you need to move forward to stop them from appearing. In other places you just need to kill all the enemies to progress further. In the first places, patience will only hinder you, in the second it will be very useful to you.
- Many people call CoD: World at War nothing more than CoD: Grenades at War, and they are absolutely right. In literary terms, when playing Veteran, a whole rain of grenades will await you. Germans, Japanese and any other enemy soldiers carry boxes of these funny items with them. Therefore, if you see the message “click to throw it back immediately ! Grenades in the company have a long delay before exploding, so you will have many chances to bombard enemies with their own grenades.
- Smoke grenades, although not lethal, are one of the most effective means of counteracting enemies and make life much easier, especially when you need to deal with enemy firing points. You start the mission with 4 grenades and you can find many more around. However, you should not throw them around in vain; use them wisely against strong enemy positions that you cannot reach from the flanks.
- When playing on Veteran, you will have to move almost all the time in a crawling or crouched position. This is because most of the cover you find will be significantly lower than you. Therefore, crouch or lie down, this will make you a smaller target, it will be more difficult to hit you, which means you will die less often.
- Think of Veteran mode as the same as Realistic mode in the Rainbow Six series. Try to hide some of them behind covers as much as possible. When doing this, hide behind massive shelters - stones, brick walls, etc. Wooden walls will not give you protection - enemies can easily break through them. Also try to shoot in short bursts and then step back and reload. We leaned out of cover, fired a short burst at the enemy, hid back, reloaded, and repeated the process.
