How to unlock the Bloody Peleliu achievement in Call of Duty: World at War - Definitive Guide

This is the second mission of the game, and even on Veteran is still pretty easy.

You will start off on a boat headed for an island that has some heavy combat going on. Eventually you will land and be given a cool perk - an arial bombing that respawns about every 30 seconds. Use this tool to your advantage throughout the entire level. Just stay in cover and keep dropping it on the next area of enemies, then move forward a bit. Rinse and repeat.

You will be 'trained' in how to use the air strike before you can get out of the water and onto land. Nail the first set of resistance and and move forward. You will have several pockets like this, moving through some trenches and eventually coming to an area that looks quite suspicious... containing some Japanese soldiers hiding in the grass and a few in the trees. If I were you, I'd drop a strike on 'em and enjoy the show. You will come to a truck on the left, and behind it is some trenches, and finally a huge building. In this area, expect a large amount of Banzai attackers. However, the route to follow is underground. To the right of the truck, there is a tunnel. It's first room has about 4-5 guys in it, so toss in some grenades and then move in with a full magazine and finish them off. Move slowly through the tunnel, and eventually you will come to where it exits. Again, Banzai attackers will rush you before you are even out of the tunnel, and make a mess for you if miss them.

From here, you can see the building to the right and up a hill, but there are several enemies directly in front of you, who will quickly turn their sights on you. Spam some grenades in this area and I found that low-crawling to the tree just to the right outside the tunnel prompts your allies to move forward and clear the area. You will have a checkpoint in this area, so don't worry too much.

Once the coast is clear, head into the building. Don't worry about enemies, the pansies ran out the back door. Head up the ladders and get ready for a game of drop the air strike and dodge at the same time. You will be required to take out some tanks. Take them out, and you're just about done. Only 1 more enemy to go. You will meet up with your crew at the back door where SGT Sullivan gives some morale to a discouraged private. The SGT then gets skewered by a Banzai attacker that bursts through the door, and once you kill him, the mission is over, and you are 30 gs richer.

This may or may not be easier with the Ray Gun. To use the Ray Gun in this mission watch this video.

For general advice on playing the game on Veteran difficulty, check out my guide for Hardened War Hero:

As soon as you can control your character get onto the rocks with you team and go prone. Select the missile strike and target the treeline. Hit the beach and keep advancing until you come to the first MG nest. Don't worry about the enemies walking through the wreckage, they just fall down and die. Go prone in the small crater in front of it and wait for your flamethrower to take it out. There will be a banzai charge before you can get around the burnt out nest. Keep advancing until you reach the second MG nest, take cover, then destroy it with the missile strikes. Continue to move through the battlefield, using air strikes, picking off soldiers and gradually advancing from cover to cover.

Just before you head into the trenches there will be a banzai charge. After this charge take out the remaining soldiers behind the wall they climbed over, then go left and take cover behind the stack of crates. Aim a missile strike at the far end of the trench where the enemies are. Now move up taking out any remaining soldiers. As you turn the last corner there will be a banzai soldier. When you exit the trenches you will be in an area with tall grass and a Japanese soldier climbing up a tree. Place a missile strike a little ways down the grassy area. Move up to trigger the banzai charge, then let the strike take care of them. As you finish moving throw the tall grass just cook grenades and throw them about 5-10 yards in front of you to take out waiting banzai chargers.

You'll now be in the final area with a large bunker suppressing your squad on your left. Take cover behind the truck and take out the large banzai charge that will emerge from the tunnels in front of you. Next, chuck a grenade into the tunnel entrance and take cover to the left of the entranceway. Take out all the enemies in the room and keep progressing (there tends to be one soldier around each corner. At the last corner there will be a banzai attack. After fighting off the attack, aim a missile strike at the enemies at the top of the slope exiting the tunnels. Pick off the stragglers then move into the bunker (be sure that you stay beneath the bunker MG gunners' range). Chuck any grenades you have up into the second floor and if the objective isn't completed climb the ladder and take out the last couple enemies.

The last part is fairly easy, just target missile strikes on the 2 tanks and the truck surrounded by Japanese soldiers. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING BESIDES THESE TARGETS! Retreat into one of the back rooms while you wait for the strikes to recharge, and be wary of enemy grenades. Once this final objective is complete, regroup with your squad to celebrate Sullivan's promising future.

Don't get ahead of yourself. Use the air support guidance device more often.

Here's a video to help.
