How to unlock the The Hammer Strikes achievement in Call of Duty: World at War - Definitive Guide
This is the second mission in which you are playing as Dimitri, the Russian Private, following the admirable SGT Reznov. This is really the beginning of the harder levels, as you will face more and more enemies in broader locations and from more angles.
As you start the level, you are in captivity, under not-so-careful watch of some German soldiers. Enjoy the the mini-scene as you get rescued, and be sure to kill the wounded Krauts before you leave. The next few areas and checkpoints is a wicked grind consisting of you killing several German soldiers and enjoying every minute of it. You will eventually come to a checkpoint where SGT Reznov will ask you to go right or left. In my experience, the path to the right seemed a bit easier, and offered a bit more cover.
From this fork, you will have a long time before you reach another checkpoint. I don't understand why the missed the ball on this one, but it will be a considerable struggle. Taking the right path will guide you through a tight trench that is well-guarded, but easy to get through. Going left is a more open field and requires much patience and dedication. You will eventually get to the same spot going either way, and you will be in a deep set of trenches that zig-zags around until you get under the bridge. Your next checkpoint is under that bridge. This area is a long haul, filled with hails of grenades and German soldiers.
Once you make to the bridge, you will have 3 enemies rush you. Take them out and head to the building to your left and up the hill. There will be a rocket launcher waiting for you, as well as 4, yes 4, tanks to confront mingled will infantry. The first 2 tanks are actually quite easy, and can be nailed from behind some cover on the second floor of the building. (Go around to the enemy side to go up the stairs)
I found that taking the first 3 out, and then staying way left of the map and moving slowly forward prompts the allies to mop of the scattered cannon fodder that are coming at you. Once you have made it to the the building that has the tank on the opposite side, you should clear out the bottom floor of that building and destroy the last tank through the windows of the building.
Reznov will have you meet up at the next building where a tank will burst out the doors. Nail it with 2 rockets quickly, or you will have to do most of the last bit over again.
Move through the building and get ready for a short tank ride. Once you reach the final tank destination, you will have one last push to finish the level. This area is ripe with towers that have mounted machine guns, trucks full of enemies, and plenty of grenades. However, you have plenty of cover, and plenty of checkpoints. I found the best tactic was to stay on the right side, moving slowly and getting your allies to push up the middle of the camp. This is a long push, and will take many tries, but once you reach the end, you will be able to mop up the enemies by shooting them in their fleeing backs. Once the tank at the road is destroyed (you don't have to do it), the mission ends, and you are 30gs richer.

They stop spawning after so long, near the bridge? I've been struggling with that part for ages now, and have given up on ever finishing the game, as I was constantly getting shot to hell trying to dart down that grassy bit. I never realised that after a few minutes, they'd stop spawning. Now I have to get this game again!

These videos where not done on veteran. The amount of shots u took in several spots should of killed u 10 times over. Not very helpful at all. I get shot point blank 2 times I'm dead. U got shot 7-10 times and still lived.

The toughest part of this level is the section where you have to make it through the trenches to the bridge after choosing to go left or right. Everything else is covered pretty well by the other explanations here. The best way to get through the trenches is as follows (it took me about 4 hours of trial and error to get it) :
Don't enter the trenches. Once everyone jumps the log fence to enter the trenches, go left. Keep going until you are at the end of the netting on the ground, above the trench right behind Reznov (you will hit an invisible barrier that will stop you from going further). Grenade or molotov the machine gunner, take out the Germans on the left in the trench who appear, and take out the Germans in the distance until there is no one left.
Then, jump in the trench, and go left to the box. Start killing off the soldiers who come from the bunker on the left and the trench on the right until they stop. After no more soldiers appear, run into the bunker on the left, and take a left. Hide in that corner, come out and shoot straight down the trench, taking out soldiers as they appear. If anyone tosses grenades, run back to the corner on the left, it's deeper than the right, and should protect you.
When no more soldiers spawn in the trench directly ahead, exit the bunker, turn left, and before you get to Reznov, stand up and shoot the soldiers who are left, and duck when necessary. Keep dong it until you don't see any more soldiers. Creep over to the barrel near Reznov, and cut down more soldiers if there are any. Once you don't see any more enemies, and you see Russian soldiers charging towards the bridge, move forward. It should be clear to get to the bridge, head under the bridge, take out the 3-4 soldiers who appear, and you're home free.
