How to unlock the Clean shot achievement in Call of Juarez: The Cartel - Definitive Guide

Like the description says, just beat the campaign without killing civilians.

Although I didn't kill any on my playthrough, off the top of my head there are a few areas where one should be careful:

1: The ghetto/slum car chase (lots of civilians in the narrow alleys)
2: The disco club (very crowded during a shootout on the dance floor)
3: The village/marketplace in Juarez - civilians running around everywhere.
4: Juan's hacienda - lots of strippers hiding in side rooms where you have to duck into to avoid suppressive fire (I had to reload here).

Note: If you do shoot a civilian, immediately reload the last checkpoint. I killed one on the last level and unlocked this achievement by doing just that.

Note: Be careful with grenades. Some levels have a lot of civilians hanging around or cowering behind counters/tables/cars etc. A misplaced grenade could kill them without you knowing.

EDIT: As mentioned in comments, you only need to clear each -chapter- without killing civilians, this does not need to be in one playthrough. So as long as you remember which chapter you messed up on, you can replay it later and clear it without civilian kills for the achievement to unlock.

If people encounter more trouble spots please inform me of them via PM or in comments.

Achievement popped for me during my 3rd playthru on the mission where you are escorting the female witness to a new safe house. So apparently you don't need to get thru the whole game without killing civilians and have it pop at the end, as long as you've played thru each mission at least one time without killing any civilians in that mission it will pop on whatever mission you had left to get thru without killing any civilians.

I had a lot of trouble with the Team Entry in the Disco Club level you mentioned as a lot of the people there look like enemies but are actually innocent bystanders unfortunately. I found it useful to move the crosshair over the people without aiming down the sights to see if it turns red or green and then aiming and shooting as my usual tactic was to shoot indiscriminately so I had to reload the checkpoint.

Other than this, brilliant guide as always - everytime I look up a solution it seems to be written by you! Thanks again :D

This is probably the most annoying trophy in the whole game because there is no way of keeping track which level you messed up on. You do not need to complete every chapter of the game without killing civilians with the same character. You can, for example, finish chapter 1 - 5 with Ben, chapter 6-10 with Eddie and chapter 11-15 with Kim and still get the trophy.

There are chapters in which there are no civilians, some that have very few (less than 12) and some that have many. If you have not unlocked this trophy once you've finished the game with all 3 characters, simply replay the chapters not listed below and use the invincibility glitch and run your way to the end of the chapter. You do not need to kill enemies to finish the chapter, except in areas where you must in order to get to next checkpoint. Also keep a lookout on your screen because if you kill too many civilians a message will appear and you will be forwarded to a "reload last checkpoint" screen.

Chapters with NO civilians

  • Chapter 1
  • Chapter 4
  • Chapter 5
  • Chapter 9
  • Chapter 11
  • Chapter 12

Chapters with very FEW civilians

  • Chapter 2
  • Chapter 10
  • Chapter 13
  • Chapter 15

I recommend this for one of your EASY playthroughs, hence allowing more time for clean shots in the areas that civilians are present. Myself on Chapter 8 ran over a civilian right as it auto saved. I reloaded the checkpoint and still got the achievement, upon completion of the playthrough. Your AI or co-op partners may kill a civilian but don’t worry as this wont count against you.

***If you do happen to kill a civilian, you can either reload the checkpoint. Or just replay the chapter later. This cheevo is cumulative between all characters and playthroughs. So If you killed a civilian on chapter 2 with Eddie for example but no other civilians on any other levels, upon replaying that level with Eddie again or even a different character on a completely different playthrough for that matter the cheevo will pop after finishing said level with no civilian deaths.***

All civilians immediately kneel or squat when you start shooting. Remember this and you will not kill civilians.

I’ll add that the achievement is cumulative for playthroughs for all characters. That is, if you killed someone at a level playing, for example, as Eddie, and then passed it playing as Kim, this is the same level purely - then you will count the level towards the passage without killing civilians.

Well, actually, if you are not sure that you completed a particular level without killing civilians, then the developers gave us the opportunity to replay this level - we go through the game without killing civilians not at once, but on a cumulative basis.
