How to unlock the Wicked Deep Pockets achievement in Castlevania: Harmony of Despair - Definitive Guide

First off, this achievement is NOT cumulative - that is, you must have one million gold on hand in order to receive the achievement.

Collecting gold isn't terribly hard and you'll pick up a decent amount of money playing the game normally; naturally, you should try to grab as many chests and stray gold pieces as possible.

For grinding this one out, your biggest source of income will be selling items. On some of the later chapters, I would regularly earn less than 5,000 gold per run, but I'd get 2-5 items that would sell for more than 5,000 each. My suggestion is to try farming the highest chapter in which you can comfortably (i.e., quickly and easily) reach a number of chests.

If you're going solo, Chapter 6 isn't a bad place to farm. On normal, I was able to reach the boss room in under 10 minutes, grabbing all the chests along the way, even before I had beaten Dracula the first time. After completing hard mode, it's not too hard to reach the first purple chest (behind the first Final Guard) in a few minutes on hard, either, so it's pretty easy to farm items in Chapter 6 on hard, too.

If you have a friend or two interested in grinding this one out, your best bet is probably a stage where you start in different locations (so you can cover a larger area in a shorter time). Chapter 2 and 3 on both normal and hard are decent options for quick team farming. Chapter 5 is another good choice and it's going to give you better loot, but it generally takes longer to reach the high-end chests than in the earlier chapters, so it may not be as efficient, depending on the skill of the players involved

Of course, farming Chapter 6 with a group is great, too, but it's easy for some of the more time-consuming monsters (like Dullahans and Final Guards) to really slow you down. If you're ready for those big guys, though, blasting through Chapter 6 repeatedly is a great way to make some serious bank.

I never got particularly expensive items from bosses, so in general I'd suggest not taking the time to kill the boss - instead, die to save your loot and start over.

As for characters/equipment, the biggest goal is still reaching chests as quickly as possible. Don't sacrifice your ability to rush through a stage for anything else or you'll really slow yourself down.

That said, the best equipment options are the ones that increase luck. High-luck granting accessories (like the Thief Ring or Sun- and Moonstones) are a must, but taking pieces of armor that increase luck are great, too, if you are able to sacrifice the defense/other stats that may go along with it.

In general, I'd suggest using the character that you're most comfortable with. It seems like the ladies are generally able to have higher luck (I was farming with 35 luck on Charlotte at one point, as opposed to the 25 luck I had with Soma) and there are definitely some other possibilities to increase your cash flow (Mimic souls with Soma, for instance, will cause coins to appear every time you take damage), but those improvements are probably not worth it if they mean that you won't be able to rush through the stages anymore.

Naturally, you should sell off everything that you don't want. In particular, remember that you can have one item equipped on two characters at the same time, so you really only need one of each item (two for accessories, if you're planning on equipping the same thing twice), even if you want to use it with multiple characters. As such, you can go ahead and sell duplicates without fear.

Finally, try to wait until after you've finished hard mode to farm for gold (unless you're desperate to buy a particular item from the store). Doing so will give you access to better loot, better gear, and will get you part of the way to your final goal. Plus, you'll improve your knowledge of the levels and just get better at the game along the way, making the farming process that much easier.

Quick summary:
- Farm the hardest chapter that you can quickly complete for items.
- Don't worry about defeating bosses unless you can do so very quickly; choose to die to finish a chapter instead.
- Character building priorities should be quickly sweeping through the levels, then maximizing luck, then incorporating other options that may increase income.
- Wait until after completing hard mode to really get this grinding under way.

EDIT: Bruk360 points out that you can sell all your items in the store and then exit to the dashboard, which will not save your newly-sold items. So, you cant try to make that little extra push to put you over 1,000,000 by selling all your stuff, then use the guide button to jump back to the dashboard so that you won't actually lose any of your stuff.

If you're like me, you're probably carrying items totaling between 100,000 and 200,000 gold in value, so you might want to start looking into this when your gold is in the 800,000-900,000 gold ballpark.

I have confirmed that this does work and think it's a great idea - thanks for the tip, Bruk360!

Good one. I hadn't even thought about doing that (partly because I love playing this game, so waiting to get the extra 100,000 gold wasn't a big burden), but I've added your tip to the guide.

I'd like to add that you can wait until you have around 850,000-900,000 (depending on how many items you have in your inventory) and sell every single one of your items off until you hit a million. If you do or don't get 1,000,000 gold, exit back to the dashboard. As long as you don't back out of the shop and the game doesn't save, your items will still be yours, even if the achievement pops.

You need to save it, till you have 1,000,000 Gold. Don't spend to much. You get the achievement, when you reach 1,000,000. Collect loot in Chapter 6 on hard and sell it. That's the quickest way to get rich.
If you have enough stuff to get 1,000,000 Gold, but don't want to lose all your loot, do this:
Sell it -> Achievement -> quit to Dashboard, so it won't save and there you go.

Cheers.

I think the best way to do this achievement is not to buy anything at all. Keep playing the game until you get to about 500,000 then sell all your stuff. But dont save it!!!!

You can go to the dashboard once you get the achievement and not lose all your stuff.

Here is a Video that I made its kind of crappy im saving up for a Dazzle :)

i dont know if this helps helps much, but if you bought the dlc called origins, its a great place to earn money in my opinion. you can easily earn 11,000 just from the hidden blocks and treasure chests alone just by getting halfway through the stage. if your looking for an item, search for silk negliges.

Unless you just plan to blow through the 6 non-DLC levels on normal and hard with a group and call it quits, this Achievement won't present a problem.

I still haven't fully leveled my first and only character, haven't gotten *any* of his best equipment to drop yet, have spent over 500,000 getting him this far, and I'm sitting on well over a million gold with nothing to spend it on and more rolling in all the time.

(I've had the game for less than two weeks at this point and play less often than the average person I meet online.)

Collect 1,000,000 gold. Farm for gold and sell useless items. Your gold must say 1,000,000 for this trophy to unlock, so it is not accumulative.

After receiving the Pack Rat trophy, sell your unwanted junk and you will definitely get the required amount.
