How to unlock the Epic victory achievement in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Definitive Guide

Warning: There will be spoilers in this guide, so don't read it if you haven't beaten the game once yet and are concerned with spoilers!

Paladin difficulty is unlocked once you beat the game on any difficulty. You can switch the difficulty at any time, but credit is given for beating it on a given difficulty only if it is set to that difficulty for the entire time in a level. In other words, you can't just change it to Paladin right before finishing a level.

Paladin is much more manageable if you collect all upgrades. You will then be able to carry 30 daggers, 10 holy water, and 10 fairies. You will also have full life/light/shadow bars. Fortunately, enemies do not get more health on higher difficulties, but it's very possible to be killed in 2 hits even with a full health bar.

The easiest way to get through on Paladin is to use the Ultimate Light and Ultimate Shadow relic powers. They cost 25k experience each but are incredibly powerful.

Ultimate Light makes you invincible, and you will do 100 damage rapidly to any enemies caught in the radius. As well, you will absorb health at an incredible rate, easily healing from near dead to full using less than half of the magic bar. Ultimate Shadow does 250 damage a shot and knocks down almost every enemy in the game, and can be spammed while they can't get up.

With these two abilities, bosses like Pan, Cornell and Satan become incredibly easy. As long as you have full magic, you can slam enemies with Ultimate Shadow, and on the off chance you get it, heal up quickly with Ultimate Light. Any time you pass a magic fountain, make sure to completely overfill so you can unload the abilities in the next sections.

If you run out of magic and can't refill easily, always remember that a perfect block followed up with counter attacks will completely fill your Focus gauge. After that, some quick strikes will usually give you enough orbs to at least get out Ultimate Light to heal yourself up.

@akute You know, it bugged me how you might have to fight two bosses in a row with no health top-up on my first playthrough. It never occurred to me that I could go to a short chapter like 1-1 and get health that way. I suspect that that will be a very useful tip for my Paladin run. Thanks also to Ganluan for posting a concise guide. :)

This guide is great - I was dreading trying to get this but its actually laughably easy if you spam ultimate light/shadow. It helps that you can choose the levels so if you have full of everything choose a boss level to make it easier.

Trying this now, so far so good, but yet to try any of the boss battles.

Am I right in saying that since the enemies have the same health you do the same damage to them? So it's just a case of avoiding their attacks more than usual rather than having to attack more too?

To make the two powers available for purchase, you need to purchase Circular Chain, Erosive Chains, Exploding Quake, Holy Cross and Shadow Flames.

Also sometimes the levels start you out still injured from previous level or health fonts in sight... but can easily go back to level 1-1 and fill up on health and complete the level in literally a minute. If you have trouble, you can do 1-1 on an easy difficulty and then after the stage switch to the harder difficulty and continue your quest with full health.

There might be better stages to do this on, but 1-1 is very fast and easy.

The trophies stack, i.e. beat the game on Hard and you'll get the Normal and Easy trophies. You will need to beat the game once to unlock Paladin, this can be done on any difficulty. After unlocking, change the difficulty to Paladin then beat every level. You will know you've beaten it on Paladin when at the end of a level you'll see 4 check marks next to all the skulls at the top of the page.

Changing to a higher difficulty mid-level won't give you credit for finishing at that difficulty. You only get credit for the lowest difficulty you played during the level. Starting on Knight and changing it to Paladin will only count as Knight.

In fact, this level of difficulty is even easier than the knight on the first playthrough, because your hero will most likely be fully upgraded with all his abilities (if you also passed the tests).

Adviсe:

-On larger enemies (spider, big werewolf), use fairies! They help a lot, simply bringing the enemy into inaction, and at this time he can be calmly dismantled.

-The abilities for 25,000 experience points are very useful, especially the light one. If there are a lot of enemies and you have less than half of your lives, turn it on: you will cripple your enemies and restore your lives. These abilities will also help on bosses.

-Many fights can simply be avoided without wasting your energy, nerves and time.

-Also, don’t forget that there is still a purple crystal.

You can complete it on any difficulty for the first time. When completing the game on Paladin, other difficulties will still give you trophies, so choose what you can handle.

NOTE: This difficulty level is locked until you complete the game once, on any of the difficulty levels available at the beginning. Then you can repeat any chapter, at any difficulty level already upgraded, and unlock the remaining trophies.
