How to unlock the Do the Monster Bash achievement in Costume Quest - Definitive Guide

This is possible to do normally by walking up behind the enemy and hitting them in the back with your pail, but I found the easiest way is to obtain the Ninja costume, which you will get in the Autumn Haven mall, you will obtain all 3 pieces in the mall, and you will get the design from the group of ninjas on the second floor.

Using the ninjas ability you will be completely invisible to wandering enemies, so you can walk right up to them and hit them with your pail to surprise them.

You can only surprise enemies who are wandering about, so trick or treating will not count.

The first opportunity to do this is in the cemetery, which is before you have the ninja costume, from that point on there should be a few enemies wandering around in each area.

I suppose so, but being you get a damage bonus for doing it I don't see why you would choose not to hit that many and miss it.

Can you bash an enemy, go to battle and then quit out and rinse and repeat?

nope, because it is 10 "different" monsters
same with the ramps, if it didn't specify with the achievements you could just go on the same ramp over and over again however that doesn't work,

Would it theoretically be possible to miss unlocking this achievement if you don't do this on enough enemies before defeating the final boss?

Starting in the cemetery, enemies will be walking about. To get the jump on them, walk up behind them and press X to hit them with your candy bag. If successful, our heros will quip and the battle will start with all enemies taking some damage.

If you do this correctly with every enemy encounter, then the 10th time will be in the mall, in the area under construction. If not, there are plenty more opportunities.

Enemies cannot be surprised at the door, only when you can walk up behind one. Some enemies can't be snuck up on, such as ones always facing you or hiding in the shadows (there is only 1 encounter like that in the mall).

This is done by sneaking up behind enemies and hit the square button when directly behind them. You will the go into battle with the enemies and they will have some of their health knocked off at the start of the battle. Do this 10 times for the trophy.

You'll first be able to do this after you trick or treat every house in the entire first area of the neighborhood. Meaning you'll need to knock on the door of all 20 houses. Once that's done the main gate that your sister was initially thrown over will open up. Follow down that path and you'll see an enemy out in the open with his back turned. Make sure that you don't walk into his line of sight and sneak up behind him. Hit him with your trick or treat pail by pushing . This will initiate battle and start the enemy off with a nice chunk of damage taken. From here on out every area you go to will have enemies out in the open for you to sneak up on. If you see that they've taken damage at the very start of the battle you'll know that you've done it right. Do it 9 more times to obtain the trophy.

To make this trophy easier you can wait until you get the ninja costume. This costume's special ability allows you to move unseen and walk right out in front of enemy without having them see you. Use this ability by pressing . You can use it to your advantage by holding and then walking around behind the enemy giving you a 100% chance of success.
