How to unlock the Weatherman achievement in Crazy Machines Elements - Definitive Guide

This achievement can be a little tricky. Not only do you need to be able to trigger a Cloud Machine three times (which can only be done by breaking the electrical connection - a steady current WILL NOT spawn more than one cloud), but you also have to make each type of cloud (lightning, rain, and tornado), so you have to hit the lever to change types in the middle.

The key is to set up a feedback loop that will cut the power but then restore the power a few moments later. There are probably tons of ways to do this, but here's my strategy:

Start by laying down a bunch of wall tiles. You'll need a lot of space for this to work out. Go into the Settings menu to generate some wind (Settings -> Properties -> third option down). This will move the clouds once they've been made.

Next, place a Cloud Machine on the wall. Save a decent amount of space above the machine itself, as you'll need to drop objects on the lever to make this work.

The trick I used was to put an Oil Lamp on a Thermometer Platform, use the lamp to power a Steam Machine, connect the Steam Machine to some gears, connect the gears to a Generator, and then connect the Generator to a Heater under the Thermometer Platform.

If you place the Thermometer Platform correctly (you want the flame of the Oil Lamp to be near the top of the Steam Machine - around the height of the bottom of the circular gauge), then the whole system will run for a few seconds, but then the Oil Lamp will be lifted beyond the Steam Machine and it'll all turn off, causing the Oil Lamp to drop back down. This process will repeat indefinitely, which is precisely what you need to make multiple clouds.

Remember - the rain cloud will extinguish your Oil Lamp, so you want to make sure that the cloud will never pass over the lamp by putting the lamp far enough away and having the wind blowing in the opposite direction.

Now you have to connect the Cloud Machine. Grab another Generator and connect it to the gear system (you'll need at least three gears for this), and now you'll be able to power the Cloud Machine.

Unfortunately, you still need to hit that lever. I used a Clone Cannon - place a couple platforms above the Cloud Machine and a Clone Cannon directly above the lever (so it'll fire straight down). Stick a Steel Ball next to the Clone Cannon (and a block or something to hold it in place), and you'll be able to change the cloud type in each cycle. You can connect the Clone Cannon and the Cloud Machine to the same Power Distributor to make it all run smoothly.

Quick version:
I used
1 Cloud Machine
1 Clone Cannon
3 Large Gear Wheels
3 Drive Belts
2 Generators
1 Steam Machine
1 Heater
1 Thermometer Platform
1 Oil Lamp
1 Power Distributor
2 Boards
1 Steel Ball
and I turned on some wind.

Make a negative feedback loop with the Oil Lamp, Steam Machine, gears, one Generator, Heater, and Thermometer Platform. Connect the gears to the other Generator, then to the Power Distributor. Connect both the Cloud Machine and the Clone Cannon (sitting on a board) to the Power Distributor.

Have the Clone Cannon clone the Steel Ball and fire it directly down at the lever on the Cloud Machine, then let the whole thing go.

Thanks for sharing that must've taken alot of work!
I found another solution on YouTube much simpler for people who want to get this achievement quick:

A steady current actually will spawn more than one cloud. I used a regular power switch connected to the cloud machine and when the switch is pressed it waits until the current cloud has formed and gone before it starts the next.

Thanks for putting in the time to figure this one out. My initial setup was a little out of control.

+1 to I Sunful I's solution -- it's vastly simpler. You should post that as a new solution.

This trophy is somewhat tricky as you need to launch three different clouds, which can only be done by breaking the electrical connection to the machine as the machine will only launch one cloud once on. And in order to spawn a different cloud type (Lightening, Rain and Tornado) you must press a level as well.

Credit to Danny Dubs 86 of TA for this method.

The key is to set up a feedback loop that will cut the power but then also restore the power a few moments later.

1. Start by placing down a large Wooden Panel pieces (Page 4, you can increase the size with the Dpad) as you will need a lot of space to attach your objects to. Also take this time to add some wind to your machine (cn_select - Properties - Wind - Either the left or right option from the middle But make sure the wind is blowing away from the Oil Lamp you setup in step 3 else the Rain cloud will extinguish the Oil Lamp!)

2. Place a Cloud Machine top right of the panel, you're going to need space above it to construct the machines to press the lever.

3. Now to make your continuously restarting circuit.
~Place a Thermometer Platform
~Place an Oil Lamp (With Flame -cn_right on Dpad) on a top of a Thermometer Platform
~Place the Oil Lamp so that it powers a Steam Machine (Above the glass circle)
~Place 3 Small Gear Wheels in an L formation below the Steam Machine
~Connect the Steam Machine to the top Small Gear Wheel with a Drive Belt
~Place a Generator below the Gears and connect it to the bottom left Gear using a Drive Belt
~Place a Heater under the Thermometer Platform (Vertically)
~Plug in the Heater to the Generator's outlet.
Your setup should look something like this so far

4. Place a Generator to the right of your Gear setup and connect it to your far right Gear with a Drive Belt. Also place a 2 slot Power Distributer next to this Generator and connect it to the Generator's outlet.

5. Place a Clone Cannon above the Cloud Machine so the blue drum points at the Cloud Machine's level (cn_down on Dpad) This is how we'll change the cloud types.

6. Construct a small platform next to the Clone Cannon out of Wooden Boards in an upside down T shape. Then place a Steel Ball in the space next to the Clone Cannon so that its held in place by the Upside down T of Wooden Boards (This is so the Clone Cannon can read and clone the ball)
Your setup should look like this
External image

7. Plug the Clone Cannon and the Cloud Machine into the 2 slot Power Distributer's outlets that we placed in step 4.

8. The machine is ready!, press cn_T to start the machine and watch the magic happen

You'll first need to unlock the editor by solving the first five puzzles of the "Rigid Basics" pack in puzzle mode. See Perfect Puzzler if you need help with this. You'll also need to complete at least some of the puzzle packs to unlock the cannon and other useful parts, although it helps to just wait until you've unlocked Collector so you'll have everything at your disposal.

Credit for the following method goes to A47A47. Start a new level in editor mode, and select the cloud machine from your inventory. Set it down somewhere in the level. Next, get a power socket (the one with the yellow block and red lighting bolt symbol, it's just called "power socket") and set it down near the cloud machine. Plug the cloud machine into the power socket. Now get the flaming ball from your inventory. Press to light the ball on fire, and place two balls above the cloud machine's switch (the gray and red handle sticking out of its left side). Be sure to leave plenty of space between the first ball and the switch and between the two balls. Finally, get the wooden board from the inventory. Place one in between the first ball and the cloud machine, and then place two in between the two balls. Be sure not to let these two boards touch.

Start the machine. If set up correctly, the cloud machine will immediately begin producing a rain cloud. Meanwhile, the two flaming balls will light the wooden boards under them on fire. Once the first two boards are burned, the first ball will drop on the switch and change the cloud machine over to a thunderstorm cloud, while the second ball starts burning the final board. Eventually, the cloud machine will begin producing a thunderstorm cloud, and the last wooden board will burn, allowing the second ball to drop on the switch and change the cloud machine over to a tornado. Now just wait for the cloud machine to finish the thunderstorm cloud. Once it starts creating a tornado, the trophy will unlock.
