This achievement requires you to beat the final stage using a Type-A ship.
You actually don't need to play through the whole game with this ship, you just need to play through the final stage with it. There's no reason not to play through the whole game with this ship, but if you decide to go for it at the last minute for whatever reason, you can die before you defeat the final boss and run out of lives. If you still have continues, you can change your ship to Type-A, defeat the boss, and you'll get your achievement.
