-NPC's you need to know and properly interact with-

-Big Hat Logan: -IMPORTANT- In order to buy sorceries from Big Hat Logan, your INT must be at least 15! (Thank you to SoulCraver for pointing me onto this.) You first meet Logan in Sen's Fortress, where he is locked in a cage. The key to free him is located in Sen's Fortress, but the Master Key will also open his cage up. Free him and he'll head back to Firelink Shrine. You can start purchasing his sorceries there.
After you have been sent to Seath's dungeons in the Duke's Archives, you will find him in a large cell on the ground floor of the dungeon. You can find the key to his cell in the Archives. The Master Key will not help this time. Free him and he'll head to a different room in the Archives where he will have his full inventory unlocked for you.
Once you have bought everything in his store and you have defeated Seath for good, head to the room Seath first mauled you in before being sent to the dungeons. Logan will be there. He's turned Hollow and you have to defeat him to acquire White Dragon Breath.

-Griggs of Vinheim: Griggs is first found in the low levels of the Undead Burg, locked away in a house. To get him out, you need to buy the Residence Key from the Male Undead Merchant in the upper levels. After freeing him, he'll head to Firelink Shrine and set up shop.
Once you've freed Big Hat Logan and later spoken to Logan in the Archives, Griggs will sell a modified spell and ring selection. Once you have bought all he has, he'll turn Hollow in Sen's Fortress where you can defeat him for Hush.

-Dusk of Oolacile: First, head to Darkroot Basin where the Hydra is. Defeat it and head to the very back of the rear cavern (avoid falling into the lake and dying) to find a Yellow Crystal Golem. Defeat it and you will free Dusk of Oolacile. Speak to her and accept her offer of teaching you her sorceries. She will disappear afterwards.
You can find her summon sign near where you fought the Hydra to shop with her.

-Ingward: Ingward is hanging out on a rooftop in New Londo Ruins. Speak to him before you defeat the Four Kings. After you've beaten them, he'll set up shop in Firelink Shrine.

Good luck! Any and all comments/questions are welcome!

Just looked it up on the DS wiki - and it states Great Magic Weapon is on the chandelier in Anor Londo. Please update your guide.

Also, Hush is found on a corpse in Sen's Fortress. You do not have to defeat Griggs.

I had a hell of a time finding BHL after rescuing him from the Archives. He's in a small room with a Blue Titanite Chunk. He's sitting on the floor to the right of the entrance of the room and all you can see is his hat, so it's somewhat easy to not see him there! And just to reiterate what has been stated- you MUST buy all his spells after finding him in this room and exhaust any new dialogue he offers by talking to him several times before he will make his final move to Seath's original room. If you've bought his spells and gotten all the dialogue, you can simply quit and restart your game from right there and he should be gone when the game reloads (this probably goes for meeting all "moving to the next location" conditions at any other point in finding him too).

Nice guide! A few sorceries can be collected by an alternative method, but nevermind! ;)
Thumbs up from me!

Remedy is not obtained through Ingward. Just did a checkup as it is the last sorcery I am missing. Went to Ingward (four kings already defeated) and had a talk with him which after he set up shop at firelink shrine. Went there, talk to him again but it was still not available for purchase. Decided to check up on it on darksoulswiki (which has been spot on with everything so far throughout the game). Remedy: Blighttown, in a chest accessed by crossing the branch at the top of the waterwheel.

Confirmed. Same place as where you find the crimson set. The remedy spell is inside the chest next to it.

Really annoyed, I go to Ingward to buy my last damn item from him, resist curse, lean over to grab some water causing the right trigger to be pressed which means that I attack him. Wouldn't matter if the game didn't save automatically and had a system where you could reverse the attack or whatever. Very annoyed to say the least.

For people thinking you need 15 intelligence to buy the spells. Yes in Firelink you need 15 but once you save him you do not need this requirement anymore. I bought them all with 11 intelligence.

This may be a simple question but do your sorceries proceed with you through NG+(or any newgames for that matter)?

Remedy is not bought from Ingward. It is found art the top of the waterwheel outside the Daughter of Chaos warp point (near Blighttown).

And in case you still read the comments, you have Crystal Soul Sper instead of Spear.

Griggs wouldn't leave for me, you can just kill him at the Firelink for Hush. I did this after everything with Logan, not sure if he still drops it earlier in the game.

No need of 15 int, buy from Big Hat Logan in anor londo instead of firelink.

No need of 15 int for Big Hat (as others pointed out as well). I was able to purchase spells (with int 10) off him in Dukes Archives after I freed him. I assume 15 int is still needed for purchases from him while he's at Firelink.

-Strong Magic Shield
Found on a corpse in Duke's Archives.
Found it in a chest on the top level in Duke's Archives, maybe it needs to be changed.

It might be worth noting that all pyromancies, sorceries and miracles count from multiple characters as I just got my pyromancy achievement and I didn't have a lot of the spells

Question regarding griggs. I cannot get him to sell certain spells, repair, aura decoy and fall control. He sells everything else, just not these. Any idea? I can't find any information regarding this.

In my game (first playthrough) Dusk was never there and Ingward never went to Firelink after defeating 4 kings.

Should change Dispel Curse to Resist Curse.

For Ingward, he was already selling spell when I met him in New Londo, but only Resist Curse. Remedy was found on a corpse in Blightown around the same area you find the red armor, similar to Ingward armor.

it may be a bit premature (especially for me so far...), but once the NPC has been located, can the spells be purchased anytime? i'm just wondering if any of the spells are missable or if i could just run around later in the game and start picking them up.

great guide btw!
thanks!

Can you confirm what Intelligence level you need for Big Hat Logan to be willing to sell you spells?

By Soulcraver106 on 14 Oct 2011 21:21
Unfortunately, that tells me nothing. Yeah... i can work out that you can buy whatever is available and you need to have the right stats to use it. I'm not that stupid.

My question was to do with Big Hat Logan, the NPC you free from Sen's Fortress. Once he appears in Firelink Shrine, he will sell you spells you can't get anywhere else. Unfortunately if you don't have a high enough Intelligence level, he refuses to sell them to you until you do. I wanted to know how much Intelligence Big hat Logan requires before he will sell them to you. It's pretty damn important to include in the guide for melee-types who will have to go out of their way to put just enough points into Intelligence to be able to buy those spells.

I'm sorry if my post came off as offensive or aggressive. It just felt like your response was stating the obvious - like if someone asks "how do you drive a car" and your response is "well you open the door and get in the driver's seat".

Thank you for finding out the specific Intelligence level Big Hat Logan requires before he sells you stuff. Your guides for all sorceries, pyromancies and rare weapons are very helpful, and i hope to see one up about Miracles too.

And besides, if i hadn't been a little bit harsh in pointing that out, you may not have been motivated enough to edit it into the guide! ;)

Just want to point out the room in which Logan ends up after you free him from the cell (in Duke's Archives): is the one TO THE RIGHT from the area with the Mimic and the stairs to the little wood with Crystal cave entrance.

And if you want him to turn hollow in the first dragon room, you need to buy his spells to the last one, even if you already have them in your inventory!

So is it just buy and get all the spells to unlock achievement, or you need intelligence required to all of them( there is a one which require 50 points in intelligence per example)?

just buy them

Oddly, Big Hat never offered Great Magic Weapon in my game, as far as I can tell. Guess I'll have to grab it on NG+, but definitely annoying. It is possible he offered it and left and that one doesn't transfer to Griggs as the rest of his initial stock did - if that is the case he never offered it again as I bought him out in the Archives.

Has anybody had a problem with this not unlocking? I just obtained all of the spells and checked the guide multiple times with my inventory to make sure I do have them all but the achievement did not unlock.

I defeated Seath and bought all logans goods, but he just sits jn the archives saying Curse me for disturbing him, he doesn't move to the battle arena, any ideas how to instigate him moving?

Edit: you need to homeward bone, then re enter dukes to get him to move.

Sorceries can either be purchased from certain NPCs, looted around the world or given as a reward by ranking up certain covenants. Below I will list where to get each sorcery and how to get the NPCs to sell them to you. Big thanks to Blood_Runs_Cold for compiling most of the information in here!

If you want, you can use the printable checklist from HERE made by Birr1978 to help you keep track of what you have.

--Sorceries Acquired by Looting/Rewarded--

Great Magic Weapon:
You can find this spell for free in Anor Londo. It is on the chandellier inside the church where the painting is. While walking on the narrow rafters of the church, cut the chain to the chandellier and it will drop to the floor of the church, making it obtainable.

Strong Magic Shield:
Duke's Archives. It is in a chest in one of the floors in first section of Library.

Remedy:
Blighttown. Found in a chest in the upper rear section of Blighttown.

Hush:
In Sen's Fortress, from the boulder launch room, go to the trail that leads to the Mimic (chest enemy). While turning the corner from the boulder room, look right to see a gap in the wall. Jump through and attack the snake mage with an air attack. You'll land on some wooden boards. Look around you'll see a broken wall on one side and a hallway on the other. Go down the hallway and you'll be in a cell with the Hush spell on the ground along with an armor set. (Thanks to AlejandroM for the conformation)

Alternatively you can kill the NPC Griggs of Vinhelm and he will drop it.

--Sorceries Acquired by Purchasing--

--Griggs of Vilhelm--
Griggs can first be found locked inside a room in the lower Undead Burg, near the area where dogs and thieves attack you, right before the Capra Demon boss fight.

To open his door you'll need the Residence Key, which can be purchased from the first merchant in Undead Burg for 1,000 souls. Once rescued he will go to Firelink Shrine and sell you his spells. Some time after buying everything from him, he will leave and go to Sen's Fortress where he will become Hollow. You'll find him in the second path that leads up to the mechanism that launches the large steel balls the giant on the roof is dropping. That is where you can kill him to acquire the "Hush" spell.

When Big Hat Logan leaves the Shrine he will start selling you his spells as well.

Soul Arrow:
Griggs of Vinhelm or Big Hat Logan. Cost 1,000 souls.

Great Soul Arrow:
Griggs of Vinhelm or Big Hat Logan. Cost 6,000 souls.

Heavy Soul Arrow:
Griggs of Vinhelm or Big Hat Logan. Cost 2,000 souls.

Great Heavy Soul Arrow:
Griggs of Vinhelm or Big Hat Logan. Cost 8,000 souls.

Aural Decoy:
Griggs of Vinhelm. Cost 1,000 souls.

Fall Control:
Griggs of Vinhelm. Cost 1,500 souls.

--Big Hat Logan--
You can find Logan in Sen's Fortress, locked in a cage. The key is found by following the path beneath the merchant in Sen's Fortress, but players with a Master Key can open the cage right away. Free him and he will go to Firelink Shrine next to Griggs. He will sell stronger spells than Griggs.

When you reach The Duke's Archives, you will find Logan in a cell again. You'll find the key to it in the area with two Mimic Chests and a lot of other regular chests. Go back, free him, and you will find him in another room of the archives, where you can purchase his best spells. Once you have bought everything from him and killed Seath in Crystal Cave, return to that room where he is and talk to him. He will start to mumble and talk to himself.

After you reload the game or quit the area and come back he will be gone from that room and instead can be found in the room that Seath the Scaleless first was, however this time around he will be hollowed. Kill him to get the White Dragon Breath spell plus his hat and his catalyst.

Magic Weapon:
Griggs of Vinhelm or Big Hat Logan. Cost 3,000 souls.

Magic Shield:
Griggs of Vinhelm or Big Hat Logan. Cost 3,000 souls.

Homing Soulmass:
Big Hat Logan. Cost 20,000 souls.

Soul Spear:
Big Hat Logan. Cost 40,000 souls.

Homing Crystal Soulmass:
Big Hat Logan, after moving to the Duke's Archives. Cost 30,000 souls.

Crystal Soul Spear:
Big Hat Logan. After moving to the Duke's Archives. Cost 50,000 souls.

Crystal Magic Weapon:
Big Hat Logan. After moving to the Duke's Archives. Cost 20,000 souls.

White Dragon Breath:
Kill Big Hat Logan when he turns hollow in the Duke's Archives.

--Dusk of Oolacile--
Dusk is trapped in a yellow crystal golem in Darkroot Basin. You have to kill the Hydra first. Once the Hydra is dead, leave Darkroot Basin completely (or reload the game) and come back. Go all the way into a cave behind where the Hydra was to find the yellow golem. Kill the golem, and Dusk will be free.

Talk to her and accept to be taught by her. After that, she will disappear. To speak to her again, you must find her summon point. It's on a boulder by the water where you fought the Hydra.

Hidden Weapon:
Dusk of Oolacile. Cost 2,000 souls.

Hidden Body:
Dusk of Oolacile. Cost 2,000 souls.

Cast Light:
Dusk of Oolacile. Cost 1,000 souls.

Repair:
Dusk of Oolacile. Cost 10,000 souls.

Chameleon:
Dusk of Oolacile. Cost 3,000 souls.

--Ingward--
Ingward is the guy on the roof in the big ghost-infested building in New Londo Ruins, dressed in red. Talk to him here to buy his spell, otherwise he will go back to the Firelink Shrine after you beat the Four Kings where you can buy it.

Resist Curse:
Ingward. Cost 5,000 souls.
