How to unlock the Battle Hardened achievement in Darksiders - Definitive Guide

For the most part you will be working on this right from the very start of the game.

Before you forge the Armageddon blade, youll want to do this (as it replaces your Chaoseater and wont be able to work on this weapon).
NOTE : Supposedly Choaseater does not need to be upgraded according to the comment. Keep in mind, i wrote this guide as i was playing, and any edits that were in this guide were lost in the great TA crash/losing of data.
Please also note the Choaseater listed below is a recommendation not a MUST use.

First up -
Weapon enchanments.
Recommend
Chaoseater - Fury's Embrace
Scythe - Death's Blessings
Tremor Gauntlet - War's Glory

Second -Where to find
War's Glory - Legendary - improves chaos regen and weapon
After you fight the first large crystal/hungry spider youll come to a passage with 1 shadowflight blue orb and lots of abyssal chain orbs, jump into the shadow flight orb and pull back on the stick for a secret ledge and the Legendary weapon mod

Fury's Embrace - Legendary - reveals all items on maps
Enter black throne, head east, past the outside area.
When you get to the 2 button on opposite end of a chasm that produce a rock pieces brigge do the following.
Have void walker item ready, activate bridge, as your moving across, you need to look up and to the left and fire a shot at the void design. Once over the other side of the bridge, hit the button and make your way back to the void design. Use void, walk through void, press button and cross another collapseable rock bridge to recieve this Legendary weapon mod.

Blood Thirst - Leeches health when damaging enemies
Enter the twilight catherdral, cross the lava and go right through the door, drop down hole in this courtyard. Follow to end open door, turn left, go straight ahead, keep heading west. Take elevator down, in this room there are 2 lit sconces and 1 unlit, use crossblade to light the one to get your chest.

Strife's Offering - Legendary increase gun effectiveness
Ashlands, jump down the drill hole, follow until you come to the section with 12 plant teeth hanging from the ceiling. Go towards and use the shadowflight orb, then Abyssal chain across. After killing everything receive your reward.

Death's Blessing - Legendary -
Head north out of Scalding Gallows, youll come to the huge door that requires the Chrono puzzle to get past.
Place a void on the void design.
Activate the chronomancer the switch and make it past the big gate.
Once the gate crashed down look at it, place the other powered up void hole on it.
Activate the switch and run back to the chronomancer puzzle room.
Activate the switch, look through the void till you see the chest then jump through for the weapon enhancement.

Third - Why these enhancements,
Having all these slotted seem to stack, when using the weapon with these slotted i always gained health back, even though the weapon i killed with didnt have a leech ability.
The time it took me to level the last half bar with the Scythe using Death's Blessing, and the last half bar with the Tremor Gauntlet using War's Glory were.
Scythe+Death's = 1/2 bar = 15minutes
Tremour+War's = 1/2 bar = 15minutes

I did 1 1/2 levels on the Tremor gauntlet, and 3/4 a level on the Scythe and clocked up approximately 12000 souls.
This will help if you need extra souls to purchase the weapon abilities.

Fourth - Purchaseable items.
These are all the Chaoseater/Scythe/Tremor Gauntlet moves.
You do not have to purchase any the equipment(Crossblade/Mercy) upgrades.

Fifth - Best moves to use.
Sword - 180 orbital, (X pause X) or hit X,X, then wait a moment and repeat.
Scythe -
(Return Slash)
after you round them up, Hit Y,Y then wait a moment and repeat.
(Repear's Revenge)
Or the push foward and hold RB+Y (this will so a sliding swing attack)
Tremor Gauntlet,
(Earthshaker)
Stand still and press RB+Y, this will do a ground slam and pummel.

Sixth - Equipment
Abyssal Chain
Pull stragglers toward you to finish them off, but not a necessary piece of equipment.

Seveth - Location, Location, Location
Iron Canopy.
After defeating Silithia(or before it, its just easier to describe the location working backwards).
Leave the Silithia room and go back the way you came,(this is web door number 1). Work your way back and go through webdoor number 2..
Take a left and head down the hole, this next room has a load of spiders on the wall.
Round them all up and use your ability.

Now here is the trick to reseting this room.
After you have cleared out the room, climb back up the growth, dash forward 3 times, this will put you on a non-concrete floor. (This is the reset area - tested to see if this could be done any closer and it couldn't.)
Turn around and go back into the room all spiders respawned.

Final part
Once you have all the moves and the weapons upgraded, and have collected all the Armageddon blade pieces. Go get your Armageddon Blade recrafted once the cutscene is done, you will receive this achievement.

If you formed the Armageddon blade before you bought the last pieces from Vulgrim, the achievement should pop once you exit Vulgrim's store.

I haven't got this achievement yet but it seems that you do not need to max out Chaoseater... Armageddon's Blade is already level 4 and it seems this counts as maxing out your sword.

Probably need to edit this guide, the Armageddon sword automatically counts as a level 4 sword. This means it is best to ignore the Chaoseater and just focus on the secondary weapons.

m0rph3us17 mentioned this already and I can confirm it as well.

This is one time I wish I'd have read the solution before I finished the game hehe. I spent time grinding my Chaoseater to Lv4 before I got the Armageddon Blade becuse I didn't want to chance having a Lv1 AB lol.

As far as changing the guide, has anyone sent the author a PM? He may not frequent the site much and I'd hate to see people start rating his great solution down simply because he got something wrong. Looks like someone already started rating him down, though this could be chalked up as douchebaggery.

I sent him a PM. Hopefully he'll get it, but he only has 2 posts on TA so he may not visit TA often.

BTW, is 99 the highest combo we can get? I can't seem to get any higher. I don't know if that effects the amount of souls gathered or not.

i got my Armageddon Blade, and maxed out the gauntlet and the scythe ...only problem , i didn't get the achievement.
I have all the moves too.
Could it be that i have the Harvester instead of the normal Scythe that it affects it ? ... this really sucks
or do i need to get each skill on max too ?

I'm a little confused about this achievement. What all do you have to do? This is the only one I'm not sure I'll get, but i plan on getting all 1000G on this game, but what do I do? Do you just get Chaoseater, Sythe, & Tremor Gauntlet to level 4 then buy all moves? Is that all? Doesn't sound that bad... I figured there was more to it than that.

YEAH, I'M WONDERING ABOUT THE HARVESTER TOO. WILL IT GLITCH THE ACHIEVEMENT IF YOU'RE USING THE HARVESTER INSTEAD OF THE REGULAR SCYTHE WHEN YOU MAX-OUT EVERYTHING? I HAVEN'T GOTTEN THE ACHIEVEMENT YET, AND I DON'T WANT TO RISK IT... BUT IT'D BE GOOD TO KNOW. THE HARVESTER LOOKS LIKE FUN!

no harvester won't glitch achievement. (i reply to most people in private tells).
I used the harvester from the start, and either the Harvestor or the regular scythe work.

i don't have chaoseater anymore, so one less slot for enchantment :( i am doing this in the rooms like this guide suggested but it's really taking me ages. first two bars were more or less quick... but last bar is just getting uber-boring... and i still need to do the gauntlet lvls too :(

Just to clarify for anyone that is still wondering or is confused , Yes you need to purchase all 3 levels for each weapon (scyth/harvester , chaoseater and gauntlet ) for this one to pop.

To obtain Blood Thirst in the Twilight Cathedral you actually must ignite ALL the sconces in the area including the ones down the previously lava filled corridor.

SAVE OFTEN PEOPLE!!! If you are going to be doing this, SAVE AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN. (I did it every time I got half way through a bar.

Even if you have this game installed on your HD, it will still freeze at times.

99 is not the max for combo multiplier, my stats page in-game says 101. I did that here with the Tremor Gauntlet RB+Y.

The iron canopy location mentioned in this solution is a great place to get souls and your weapon levelled up. Make sure you use War's Glory and Death's Blessing!

I can also confirm, like a lot of others here, after completing the game last night that you DO NOT need the Chaoseater. Mine was level 3 before I forged the Armageddon Blade and I did the rest of my grind right before the final boss battle. The Iron Canopy method is great for the other two weapons but make sure you use the Scythe A LOT while playing the game, paired with either War's Glory or Death's Blessing. The RB+Y combo for the Tremor Gauntlet on the spiders work wonders and you level up really fast. And it's fun too lol.

The achievement didn't unlock for me until after I had purchased the last upgrades from Vulgrim and exited out of his menu.

Are all 4 levels of all the Wrath powers required for this? I have all the moves purchased for all three weapons but I'm only at about level 2 for each of the Wrath powers.

Detailed solution that highlights the best way to level weapons. I’ve rushed my playthrough and will still have more than enough souls to buy all weapon skills to level 3.

Thanks for the solution!

If anyone is ever interested, to buy all things from Vulgrim (weapon moves, wrath abilities, equipment upgrades, shards) you need ~150k souls.

Just wanted to add this, I leveled the Chaoseater, Harvester, and Tremor Gauntlet to level 4 and purchased all the moves for all 3 of those weapons prior to getting the Armageddon Blade. It wasn't until I reforged the Armageddon Blade that the Battle Hardened Achievement popped up. So i'm guessing having the Armageddon Blade is required for this achievement.

Took me about 30,000 souls to buy out the entire Chaoseater and scythe/tremor gauntlet sections of Vulgrim's store. After I finished off all three weapons, I had to keep grinding for about an hour and a half to get 10,000 more souls. Achievement unlocked once I received the Armageddon Blade, right after the Ultimate Blade achievement.

Got the achievement yesterday. You do not need to max out Chaoseater and you can get this after getting Armageddon's Blade (which counts as a maxed sword). I had Armageddon's Blade (having only got Chaoseater to Level 3), had purchased all the moves, and then maxed out the Scythe and Gauntlets and the achievement dropped.

From what I can gather it looks like maxing all 3 weapons (and buying all moves) prior to getting Armageddon's Blade will also work though. However it obviously saves you some time if you do not bother maxing out Chaoeater.

BTW the location that Onsidic mentions is BY FAR the best. The trick with this room is rounding up all the spiders so you can easily get a nice high combo, which seems to boost weapon XP and soul gains. For the Scythe, the Y, Y combo I found to be most effective, and for the Gauntlet, RB+Y was easily the best. You should be able to get a 40-50 combo with the Scythe and as high as a 70 combo with the Gauntlet.

Like everyone else has said, leveling Chaoseater is not required - in fact doing so is a complete waste of time. It is good for having an extra enhancement active so I'd still hold off getting the Armageddon blade until you get this finished.

Fury's Embrace does nothing to boost the weapon XP - you need to get Combat Lore instead. It's the reward for beating Ulthane in the angel killing competition along with this achievement:
DarksidersWho's Counting? The Who's Counting? achievement in Darksiders worth 25 pointsDefeat more angels than Ulthane

It can also purchased from Vulgrim if you miss it.

I've had this game freeze on me a handful of times playing this BC, including one time where I was pretty far into weapon grinding in the spider room (lost a lot of progress there).

My suggestion is that you head a few rooms west from the spider room to trigger an autosave every once in a while (need to head a bit past the elevator). Due to the completely useless way manual saving works in this game (basically, just banks your last checkpoint), you'll have to rely on this method to bank your progress.

Edit: a lot of the freezing seemed to occur right at the respawn point mentioned in the solution above so I decided to ignore that room entirely. What I ended up doing is moving back and forth from the room with all the spiders to the elevator/bomb room to the west. There actually seem to be MORE spiders in this elevator room and they will all aggro if you drop down to the bottom level (just jump down past the bulbous growth). Then you can just hookshot back up next to the bulbous growth when done. Probably slightly slower than the solution but it does guarantee you a checkpoint / autosave.

The description tells you what you need to do. You need to buy all the moves from Vulgrim and get all of your weapons to level 4. You don't have to kill enemies to get weapon xp, you just have to damage them and you will get a little bit. Killing them with just one weapon however will significantly increase xp earned. The best way of doing this is using the legendary enhancement called War's Glory. War's Glory significantly increases the damage done by weapons and gives you a huge boost in weapon xp.

To get War's Glory you need to be in Silitha's dungeon. After you get the Abyssal Chain go back to the alley way with a broken fire escape at the end of it. At the top of those stairs you should see a orange grapple point inside of the building in front of you, in there you will find the enhancement.

Make sure to equip it to any of your weapons to get the best out of it. After that on weaker enemies make sure to use your secondary weapons, the Scythe, and the Tremor Gauntlets. You should be able to get to at least level 2 using this method.

If you didn't do this the next best thing you can do to grind for weapon xp is go to Silitha's dungeon again and fight the spiders. The spiders constantly respawn as you move throughout the area and there is almost always a group of at least six in any given area. Loop around the dungeon for constant waves of enemies to kill.

As a final note, the Armageddon Blade starts out automatically at level 4, so you do not have to worry about leveling it.

EDIT: You don't have to buy the imbuements for your equipment such as the Crossblade or Reaper, just the moves for the Chaosblade, Tremor Gauntlets, and Scythe

Just want to add that you need to buy all the upgrades (to lvl 3 I think) of all moves to the three main weapons from Vulgrim before this unlocks.

To assist / clarify even further for people looking to grind. The best spot I've found so far is also in the Silitha dungeon. On your way to find the abyssal chain you're going to move through a large room with groups of spiders all along the wall. After you clear this room you'll head into a small hallway, turn left, climb a small wall of demon growth then head outside to a larger area. You'll know you're in the right spot if the boos door is ahead and on your right.

From the top of the demon growth, dash forward three times (you should have reached a point where the ground changes to what looks like a tiny section of hardwood). Turn around and head back into the previous room. All the spiders have respawned. Rinse and repeat.

While this room will always respawn like this, I found it's actually easier (albeit slower) to grind the room now BEFORE you get the abyssal chain. The reason being is that after you get the chain, one of the spider mini bosses is located in this room. Once you defeat it, the spiders in this room turn more aggressive and attack you on site, and there are fewer mobs of them. Granted you won't have the War's Glory enhancement, but if you're not very good with the scythe or the gauntlet it may be worth your time to ignore getting it til after you've put in some grind time.

A good side note is these spiders are very easy to melee should you need health. Meleeing the whole room should net you a full health bar each time.

To get this trophy you must do the following:
- Armageddon Blade (the level on your Chaoseater does not matter)
- Scythe at LVL. 4
- Tremor Gauntlet at LVL. 4
- All weapon moves (purchasable from Vulgrim), up to their maximum ranks.

The Shredder and Mercy modifiers, enhancement items, and wrath abilities do not matter in unlocking this trophy.

The absolute fastest way to max out your weapon levels is via the Iron Canopy spiders (See "Tip 1" on how to get there, and effectively utilize them). Collect all of the spiders at once and use your area effect weapon moves (NOT WRATH SKILLS!) to quickly dispatch the enemies.

Leveling weapons is based on the amount of hits you do, and not the amount of damage done, or souls you collect while said weapon is equipped.

In the dead city, where they killed SILIT, there are a lot of small spiders, they are killed in heaps at a time, especially with a scythe on them and you need to upgrade your weapon, just keep in mind that the achievement will be given only after you upgrade everything and make the blade of ARMAGEDDON.
You don't need to pump up magic to achieve this.

It is not necessary to upgrade the sword; it will become level 4 when you collect and reforge the sword of Armageddon.

1. Where the silita was killed, there are many small spiders, kill them.
2. From the very beginning, go to the settings (during the game) there is a tab "ENTER CODE" We write there: The Hollow Lord and use only it (a sword if not necessary) And when you get the Tremor Gauntlet, it’s better at the end of the game, go to the iron vault and press RB+ .
