No. You don’t have to hit a survivor for it to count. Literally only have to throw the hatchet.

Very self explanatory , but using add ons that increase the amount of hatchets you can carry at one time

Infantry Belt – Increases the number of hatchets The Huntress can carry by two

Leather loop - increases the number of hatchets the huntress can carry by one

Just prioritise using her hatchets more than her axe and you should get it from playing

To earn this, you just need to throw 1000 hatchets. They don't need to actually hit their target, they just need to be thrown. This is a VERY grindy trophy, but very easily farmed by standing next to a locker, throwing your full supply of hatchets, then refilling from the locker. I don't recommend wasting your time farming this though, as you might get this naturally on your way to earning the trophy Skilled Huntress. The trophy will pop when the 1000th hatchet has been thrown. Below is a full explanation of The Huntress's abilities.

The Huntress is a ranged killer and her power is to throw hatchets. This is a fairly straight forward power but due to additional mechanics intended to keep her balanced, it still requires a good amount of practice to master. To throw a hatchet press and hold the button to charge the wind up, and release it to throw the hatchet. What makes this hard to master is that there is no crosshair to rely on, so you just have to develop your own muscle memory as to where the hatchet will land. The hatchet also flies on an arc so you can lob it over obstacles if throwing from a distance. Also, The Huntress who already has a slightly slower movement speed takes a speed penalty while winding up for a throw or holding a hatch in the ready position. The Huntress needs to fully wind up every throw so just tapping the button doesn't make her throw faster or avoid the speed penalty. At base, The Huntress can hold 5 hatchets at a time and can reload her supply by searching any of the lockers spread across the map. The Huntress only has a 24 meter terror radius, but is also burdened by a lullaby she hums that survivors can hear directionally from 48 meters away and is unaffected by perks that would otherwise hide or reduce her terror radius. This makes it impossible to sneak up on survivors, and makes her weak against stealthy players who will capitalize on such an early alert.
