How to unlock the The Grind achievement in Dead by Daylight - Definitive Guide

Chainsawing people with the Hillbilly can be a daunting task for new users -- here's my method for getting 50 chainsaws as a level 1 Hillbilly:

- Start chasing a survivor
- When the survivor has nothing to hide behind, start fluttering your chainsaw
- To flutter your chainsaw, use the (button you have set to chainsaw) and bring the bar to 3/4 or 75%
- While you're at this point, keep letting go and pressing the (button you have set to chainsaw) to keep it at the 3/4 or 75% range
- When the survivor is running straight with nothing to vault or cover behind, line up your screen and complete the chainsaw bar
- Here you can slowly guide the Hillbilly and attempt to hit the survivor if he/she tries to avoid the chainsaw
- IMPORTANT: If you miss the chainsaw, let go of the (button you have set to chainsaw) immediately so you don't lose the survivor
- IMPORTANT: If you're about to hit the survivor, don't let go of the (button you have set to chainsaw) because if you hit it automatically initiates the chainsaw

This gets progressively more difficult as you pip (rank up). Survivors will be pallet looping, vaulting, quickly jumping in and out of lockers and mostly T-Bagging if you can't hit them (don't stress too much doing this achievement).

So they recently reworked the Hillbilly. Not sure if it's an unintended side effect of the update, but this achievement popped after hitting only one chainsaw. May be worth it to look into and see if it reliably happens. 👀

@FartingDolphin7 Thanks for the heads up. Just to confirm, was this the first time you had ever hit a survivor with the chainsaw or have you used the Hillbilly before the update? Cheers.

Legit the first time I had used Hillbilly, period. As far as I'm aware, they haven't made any other updates that would have reverted this, so it probably still works

I recommend using add ons that increase turning and decrease the rev up of the chainsaw to make this challenge easier. Otherwise it can take quite a while

Each killer has their own special ability and play-style for how they go about catching survivors. The Hillbilly's ability is a chainsaw charge. By holding a Hillbilly with start his chainsaw and sprint in a straight line until he lets go of the or hits a survivor. If you successfully release the button into a survivor, you will put them into the dying state immediately.

It's important to keep in mind that the chainsaw sprint can be avoided by turning sharply, or taking cover behind an object. If the Hillbilly sprints into a downed pallet, the pallet will be destroyed and the dash will end. If the Hillbilly sprints into debris or anything besides the survivor then the sprint will end in a brief stun.

This trophy is cumulative, and will unlock upon your 50th Chainsaw Hit on a survivor.

Hillbilly's special skill is a saw. It takes time to set it up; when using it, Billy is extremely clumsy (without addons), but noticeably accelerates and, when hit, immediately puts survivors on the ground. Actually, to get the trophy you need to cut 50 survivors. It is not necessary to cut different ones, even if you cut one 2-3 times, then everything will be counted as a trophy.
