How to unlock the The Key to Escape achievement in Dead by Daylight - Definitive Guide

The best option for this is to go in with a team of 4 that you can communicate with. You want to have one person start with a map that can track black locks. One person needs to start with a key. And everyone else should have a a toolbox with the brand new part equipped (this makes generators easier because you need to complete all 5 before the hatch spawns for all 4 people). Complete the first 3 generators as you normally would and use the brand new parts on the last 2 for a quick completion. At this point everyone should be looking for the hatch, especially your team member with the map. Once found gather your team because the key only holds the hatch open for a set amount of time before closing again. Good luck!

Use the Left Behind perk (William 'Bill' Overbeck) the jigsaw piece add on and a key that can open the hatch (Irrdescent or Purple) and the hatch will always spawn on the bottom level of The Game so camp till you are the last survivor and once a killer shuts it they usually door camp so the perk should reveal the hatch as you run around and the key will let you open it.

the hatch doesn’t seem to spawn Closed before the last survivor at the moment, so the only way to unlock this achievement currently is till wait till you are the final survivor, let the killer close the hatch and then unlock it.

This achievement now is very difficult to attain as the hatch can only spawn when you are the only survivor remaining, not to mention killers hardly allow you to use keys to get hatch. But the blueprint offering still helps. I don't have the achievement yet.

Looks like after the last patch this can be achieved by one of the four players even if the previous requirements weren't fully met. If only 3 of the 4 players escape through the initial hatch, now with a hatch opening when there is only one player left even if 3 have escaped the fourth player can use the hatch and ONLY the fourth will be awarded the achievement. I was the killer, had 3 survivors escape through the hatch, the fourth kept trying to go through the exit door which I downed them and dragged them to the hatch. Only the 4th got the achievement, I guess too much time had passed since the first 3.

My friends and I have found a way to earn this achievement with only two players.

For those who don’t know: It is possible to start a public match with a friend as the Killer if both parties have similar ranks (Survivor v. Killer) and if the Survivor (or SWF host) begins searching for a match soon after the Killer creates their lobby. Using this, it is possible to farm out many of this game’s achievements including this one.

How it’s done: Have a Killer and Survivor player, make sure the Survivor is the last in the match with access to the Hatch. Survivor attempts a Hatch Escape only for the Killer to grab them three times. The Survivor may now leave at any time and the achievement should pop.

Why it works: I believe that this achievement is sort of busted (like many others in this game) as it tracks the number of times the Hatch has been ‘used’ even if the person using it fails. This means that one player failing three times then succeeding on the fourth would be tracked as “all 4 survivors escaping through the hatch at the same time”.

While my ‘partners in crime’ would rather remain anonymous, I am of the mind that this achievement is practically impossible with actual random teammates and becomes almost as difficult even with SWF just because of when the Hatch will spawn and how hard the Killer will be trying to stop everyone from getting to that point.

So while I won’t be posting their Gamertags, I will say thank you to B and B for not only discovering this method with me but also for having the patience to test it a second time.

Any questions? Hit me up. Hope this helps those without an elite group of friends or crazy amounts of time on their hands.

Good luck out there in the Fog.

Ok so i have this game on ps4 and somthing worth noting, we found each other and 2 people disconnected during loading screen so we were left with 2 survivors and only 3 generators, anyway we did the hatch grab 3 times and my friend escaped on the 4th hatch but nothing popped, so if the game begins with less than 4 players it won’t work.

I can confirm that this did not work on the ps4, the other 3 survivors escaped (maybe they need to be sacrificed and not escape?) anyway we executed this perfectly and it did not pop.

I was tempted to copy this solution to the TrueTrophies site but hadn’t tested it there so I decided not to. In my case, two survivors had been sacrificed and one had disconnected after the match started. Wish you the best of luck in your attempts!

Ok in that case it appears that all 4 survivors need to start the match and if you are with 1 friend then the other 3 need to either leave the game or be sacrificed for it to work.

I just used this method with my second Xbox, so I killed the other 3 survivors and completed 2 of the gens to get the trap door unlocked, jumped and caught myself 3 times and escaped on the 4th attempt and the achievement unlocked for my second account as the killer.
I believe what makes it not work normally is if the survivors have opened the exit gates as I’ve done it legit and boosted with 4 survivors but never unlocked

The grab the survivor method has been patched. The killer can no longer grad the survivor because the killer can no just shut the hatch instead.

This achievement is infinitely easier now after they added the new blueprint offerings.

-First and foremost I recommend running with 3 other people in a party to make it that much easier on yourself
-Bring one of the new blueprint offerings, I tend to lean towards the annotated blueprint because most maps have a killer shack but someone in the group can always bring a map offering like a Macmillian Bone or Coldwind Farm to guarantee you get a killer shack to spawn
-Bring a key ( Don't rely on Plunderers Instinct as it only gives you a 14% chance to find a key ) and if you feel like it, you can use the blood amber and prayer beads add-on combo for essentially wallhacks ( be forewarned if you try this at higher ranks there is a good chance you might be focused/tunneled out of everyone or the killer might equip a Mori because keys are incredibly strong )

The rest comes down to smashing out the gens as fast as possible so toolboxes and prove thyself are your best friends for that, as soon as all the gens are done the hatch will spawn either inside the killer shack or immediately outside of it close to the walls and then have all of four of you near and just open the hatch with the key and escape!

Hope this helps in any way! :D

In order to unlock this achievement you should play with 3 friends who help you out. By using the "annotated blueprint" offering the hatch will most likely spawn around the killer shack. (This will help you easily find the hatch.) After repairing all 5 generators someone will have to use a key. Then all 4 survivors escape through the hatch one by one quickly and all 4 survivors will get the achievement unlocked!

Note: The hatch will only open once there is just 1 survivor left alive but that can only happen after the killer has already closed it.

It is highly recommended that you save items to put the match in the most favorable conditions possible. Obviously this trophy will also rely on getting a killer you can manage but if you prefer a certain map or thicker mist then additional offerings can help. You will need either a Dull or Skeleton key. The Skeleton key is an ultra rare offering that can be found in the bloodweb. The amount of time the key has on it per use is how long the hatch will stay open after the key is used. The Skeleton key has 30 seconds of use by default but that is more than enough time for you to escape. You can drop items for other survivors to pick up by press :circle:. Once you have the key, find the hatch and hide nearby until the killer finds and closes it. Once closed and the killer walks away, unlock it with the key (which takes approx 2.5 seconds) then you automatically jump in it. If the killer has already closed it, you can still locate it during the endgame collapse and unlock it. If you die and aren't using an add-on to keep the key through death, then another member of your party can go to where the survivor with the key was sacrificed or killed and pick the key up to escape with. You should also be very aware of a killer ability called "Franklin's Demise." Killers who use this ability will cause you to drop items after being hit so could make retaining keys very difficult. Fortunately the perk is not too common outside of Cannibal killers.

All 4 survivors have to escape through the hatch in a single match.

I recommend you perform this with a Survive with Friends (SWF) team. Either burn the offering to spawn the hatch in the killer shack or bring a map that can track a black lock. Another survivor needs to bring a key (Purple or Iridescent) that can unlock black locks to unlock the hatch to escape.

Due to a change sometime in 2020 (?), this achievement and how hatches work entirely were changed. The achievement is now simply to use a key to open the hatch to escape alone. You can't do it with 4 people anymore.

As of 2022, the hatch only spawns when you are the last active player on the map (everyone else is dead or escaped). The Killer must find and close the hatch during the End Game Collapse, then you use a Very Rare version of the key to open it and escape. I got lucky with a nice Killer who helped me get the achievement at the end of a match as a mercy gesture. Good luck!

Good to know, as a killer main, I'm going to try and be mindful of this each match.
Close the hatch and see what the survivor does, I can't imagine the odds of trying to do this naturally. Damn.

For this trophy you need to do the following:
1) it is best to play in the lobby with 3 friends, because without communication this trophy is almost impossible to get.
2) one of the survivors must have either a red or purple key. It is required directly to open the hatch.
3) the other must have any map with an add-on for finding a hatch (Black Silk Cord), otherwise this hatch cannot be found with a regular map without this add-on.
4) in order for the hatch to appear for all survivors in the lobby, you need to repair all the generators on the map. To do this a little faster, it is advised that the remaining two survivors take a repair kit (Tool Box) with the add-on “red part” (brand new part). Thanks to this part, you can repair the generator in the first second. To do this, you need to start repairing the generator using the Tool Box and immediately click on the button with which you usually do a skill check.
5) after all the generators are repaired, we look for the hatch, we all gather in the 4th one near this hatch, open it with the key and jump into the hatch one after another. Be careful, the hatch is only open for 30 seconds!

The trophy is quite difficult if the killer is not a beginner, because repairing all 5 generators, finding the hatch and jumping there together is quite difficult.

Luke appears after 5 actions. This can be 3 deaths and 2 repairs of the generator (then it will immediately open for the last survivor), 2 deaths and 3 generators, 1 death and 4 generators, or after repairing 5 generators - it is in this case that it becomes possible to obtain this trophy if available pink (the hatch opens for more than a minute) or purple (the hatch opens for 10-15 seconds) key.

- this is the key they used

When they knocked out this trophy, they acted like this:
  • first we found a hatch on the map
  • turned on all generators
  • gathered near the hatch, I opened it, automatically jumped in, everyone else followed me
IMPORTANT NOT TO OPEN DOORS TO ESCAPE

Very glitchy trophy! There were situations when only one or two were given the trophy, the rest were gone. In all cases, it was given to those who jumped into the hatch last. Therefore, I recommend waiting a couple of seconds after opening the hatch, and only then jumping.

In November 21, a gameplay update was released, in which the appearance of a hatch with several survivors is impossible, in connection with this, the developers replaced the trophy with “the key to escape.” To get it you just need to open the hatch using the key and escape. not particularly fair for those who struggled with getting the original trophy, but a paradise for all newbies.

I’ll add ghost26rus above; several skills can help you find the hatch alone:
1) Thieves' sense (English: "Plunderer's Instinct") - You see auras of unopened chests and objects around in a radius *depends on skill level*. Significantly increases the chance of finding a rare item in a chest.
2) Open Handed - Improves your and your team's ability to read auras. For a bonus to the skills Thief's Sense and Left Behind.
3) Left Behind (English: "Left Behind") - If you are the last survivor in the match, you see the aura of the hatch in the radius *depends on the skill level*.
4) Spine Chill - While the skill is active, the speed of repairing, breaking, healing, unhooking, jumping, clearing, opening gates and chests increases by% *depends on the skill level*. Active when the maniac is looking at you. (I think here you can put another skill that you think is better or to your taste, for example, Blood Ties (English: "Kindred"); Liberation (English: "Deliverance"); Die Hard (English: "Dead Hard"); Anxiety ( English "Alert"); Iron Will (English: "Iron Will"); Your own doctor (English: "Self Care"), etc.).

Two of these skills are personal, but for one, "Left Behind", the wiki says that it does not need to be unlocked in order for it to appear on other survivors and is available to all survivors in the console version of the game. In this regard, it is better to start downloading the survivor Ace Visconti (English: "Ace Visconti") because he has a second personal skill that we need: “Open Play”.
The rest will be caught in the web when pumping.

There is one way that is much easier and calmer. Enter the same match with a friend, the friend is the maniac, you are the survivor (the survivor must click “join a lobby” when the lobby is created for the maniac, a second before the black screen, and you must have the same rank), kill/release the rest survivors, and when you open the hatch, a maniac friend should catch you when jumping into the hatch with a short press . Next, the maniac throws and lifts the survivor until he gets to his feet. Repeat this action 4 times. On the fourth jump, the achievement is yours (maybe this will be fixed soon, so use it while you can)

The achievement can still be obtained by two people. The glitch works in the other direction. Anyone who needs an achievement is a maniac. Surv helps him. The maniac catches the survivor 3 times from the hatch, and the 4th time the survival goes into the hatch. Tested, it works.
