How to unlock the The Veteran achievement in Dead Space 2 - Definitive Guide

A point to know is that New Game+ cannot be used in this add on so don't try saving up loads of ammo and health packs for this difficulty.

There are only 2 chapters to this add on, one taking place in the mining facility from Chapter 11 of the main game, and the other chapter being from Chapter 1. Both maps are true to their originals but have extra rooms and variations.

You'll start off with a slightly upgraded Pulse Rifle and a new Patrol Seeker Rifle. You'll also start with the Patrol Uniform which has 15 inventory and armour (No DLC pack can better it, but have different suit specialisations).

I would suggest keeping this suit if you use the Pulse Rifle as it gives it a damage bonus. You can also find in the beggining a flamethrower but I tended not to use it as it's comparably weaker than the pulse rifle and has worse range.

If you have the Hand Cannon from DS2 Hard Core you will only need that weapon for the whole DLC.

There are about 20 Nodes you can acquire (Buying and Finding) and ammo is more or less in plentiful supply.

Make sure you upgrade your health as this is a very combat heavy DLC, and if you have the Supernova DLC pack use the Forged Suit and Plasma Cutter.

Also if you have the EarthGov Pulse Rifle from the DLC Packs you can buy it for free, sell your normal Rifle for some extra cash and keep all the upgrade nodes in the new Rifle.

Used the hand cannon almost exclusively.

But the upgrade contact beam as a very good suggestion (with the Alt-Fire and Special nodes equipped) if the hand ain't an option.

How does it compare to the regular story Zealot playthrough?

Yeah make sure you respec the pulse rifle before you sell it. It has 10 or 11 nodes as opposed to selling it for $55,000.

The "Hand Cannon" makes this E-Z (You can still get insta-killed by 'Sploders and Guardians, so it's useful to know the levels) Brutes are a joke with this weapon. "Finger Bang-Bang" FTW Bay-BEE!!!

The DLC is short and sweet, but for anyone struggling, this is a link to a video walkthrough with full commentary on each video.

Hope this helps.

I love all of your Dead Space videos, very funny and packed with great tips and strategies. They were a huge help in getting through Zealot in both Severed and the main game. Cheers man!

As Andreka0 says you can not do this in new game+, But you don't really need it. When you start the game you get an already Upgraded Pulse Rifle(Damage 2,Capacity 2,Reload 1, Alt fire 2) a new Seeker Rifle and you also get a Flamethrower at the first doorway and 50,000 Credits to spend in the shop. you can also find power nodes in some places(just like the actual game).
Also when you start your Rig is already upgraded with 2 Hit Points and your Stasis Module is already upgraded(Duration 1, Energy 1). As well as all of this you can still use any DLC that you have Suits and Guns. But everything that you have unlocked in your dead space 2 playthrough is not in Severed.

One of the best ways to get through Severed is to look for every Power node and use them to upgrade your rig, You will not really need to upgrade your gun as you all ready have a really strong Pulse Rifle.

I have been looking for a good guide to use to show you the best way to get through Severed.

This is the best walkthrough in my opinion. I did not make this walkthrough all of the credit goes to TheMediaCows.

Its is not done on Zealot difficulty but it will give you an idea of where things are and the best places and ways to kill the necromorphs.

Hope that this Guide help's you.

Also if you have any hits/tips to make my guide better please let me know.

Beat the game on Zealot; there is no guide just tips.

Tip #1 - Conserve ammo. Even if you sold your guns and only kept the Plasma Cutter you will be getting ammo for different weapons so it is not like DS 1/2.

Tip #2 - Watch your back! Anything can kill you if they hit you in the back and Severed features a lot of enemies that will crash through vents behind you.

Tip #3 - Foam Finger. If you earned it, feel free to use it because well... you earned it. While it will take away from the suspense and scares that Dead Space is about it pretty guarantees you an easy 50.

Tip #4 - Aim for the limbs! Anyone who plays Dead Space knows this... the same applies to this DLC.

Tip #5 - Use Stasis! A lot, Twitchers, Pack, and Leapers comprise the majority of the enemy encounters. Keep plenty of Stasis around to stop these fast-moving Necros...

Complete the game on Zealot difficulty to unlock this. Any DLC Weapons & Armor packs you have previously purchased will be available, as well as the Handcannon if you completed Hardcore in the main game.

Very easy for platinum holders. Let's start straight away with the unreal. We reach the first store and sell the unnecessary pulse rifle. And we take with us a bonus weapon - a red glove. She blows enemies to pieces with one shot.

Actually, who has already completed the original game on an unrealistic difficulty level. Then they just walk around (especially with a glove...). For every firefighter, you can buy first aid kits and remove all components from the pulse rifle and pump up your health and damage, and you can sell the rest.

For those who have not completed the original game on this difficulty (I advise, of course, to complete the original game first). Well, if you still decide to go through, then buy first aid kits and ammunition and increase the damage of your weapons. In fact, there is nothing wrong with the addition; you can save as many times as you like. This will make the task much easier for beginners.

Love the Flamethrower - even half-pumped (at max only damage and clip, without alt. fire and accelerated reloading) it even demolishes “blacks” in 3-4 single (!!!) shots. There are scrap cartridges for it. Coupled with stasis, an irreplaceable thing. No wonder the developers slip it in at the very beginning.

Also remove the nodes from the Pulse Rifle and put them on the Sniper (upgraded only in alt. fire - damage is 100 points instead of the initial 50 - you will need about 10 nodes, without the rest of the upgrade) takes out anyone with a maximum of 2 hits, regardless of the body part.

If the game has not yet been completed to platinum, then the pulse rifle is your best friend! It really helps, especially in the final scene. But the flamethrower can be sold. And in the main game you will receive a “Patrol” costume and a “Patrol sniper rifle” (though I haven’t fully figured out when this appears - either after installing the DLC, or after completing...)
