How to unlock the A Head of the Competition achievement in Deadliest Warrior: The Game - Definitive Guide

Plug in a 2nd controller and go on local multiplay.

You can keep track of you're achievements with the help and options menu at the main menu. Then go to combat statistics.

Use the samuri, weaken the enemy so much and then use the finisher move (X and A together) when opponent is at critical health. You must watch the whole scene or the decapitation will not count. If you watch the whole scene then this is a 100% chance of a decapitations.

I would also recommend getting That Was Sparta! achievement at the same time, just put the 2nd controller as a spartan and keep decapitating them.

But if you dont want to boost this, the the pirates X,X,X sometimes gets decapitations.

You need patience for this achievement, it will take a while

I've found if you weaken your opponent using high attacks (Y) you'll get the odd decapitation here and there too.

You don't need to watch the entire scene, I just watched it till his head was severed then skipped the rest, and that worked for me.

**Turbo Controller Required**

NOTE: Pair this with the 300 Spartan kills

First, go into Help & Options and change the settings to 30 seconds, 1 round, Normal difficulty.Go into local multiplayer, and have your profile pick the samurai, and the 2nd controller pick Spartan. Once the match starts, turbo the 'A' and 'Y'. That's it. Leave it on all night, wake up to 2 new achievements.

Great solution but I had to change to Hard difficulty to get decapitations.

One of the easiest characters to get decapitations with is the Knight (but the Viking works well too). Just go into local multiplayer, with a second player signed in, and pick either Knight or Viking for the 1st player (one who wants achievement). It doesn't matter who second player is, but if they are Spartan, will get you closer to 'This Was Sparta' achievement. Simply use (Y) attacks, which are the high-attacks on a standing still opponent. when they are near critical health, use single attacks instead of combos, it is easier to decapitate then. Another good way of getting this is by using Pirates 'Grenado Toss' (Y,B). When used three times on an opponent, it often blows up all of their limbs, including the head. You can keep track of how many decapitations you have by going to 'Help & Options', then clicking on 'Combat Statistics'. It should say Decaptations, and the number next to that is how many you have.

Play as the Samurai all the time on normal dificulty. He is good because if your opponent is at critical health, and you use a kanabo attack, his finishing move will decapitate your opponent. Always start out firing all of your arrows. If it kills your opponent, lose the other two matches so you can maximize the number of decapitations. When you start fighting, use x,x,x, as a combo as it will quickly knock down your opponents health. When he is at critical, use the kanabo, watch the entire final kill sequence. Do this over and over again against every opponent, and the achievement can be done quite quickly.

I found the easiest way to get this cheevo was with the Rajput as well. Just hit your opponent with the X button until his energy is down to about one hit left. Then use the Rajput's special attack (Y+B). This will activate a rather brutal kill scene; you'll know you've done it correctly when he stabs the opponent in the right arm and lops it off. He'll continue to stab the opponent in the torso a few times until ultimately decapitating him. You must watch this in its entirety, otherwise it won't count towards decapitations.

Also, I've found that this works best against armored opponents. It usually just knocks the Apache and Ninja back. It is especially useful against the Spartan if you wanna combine this with the That Was Sparta cheevo.

Agreed! This is a great method to also get some kills for a few other achievements.

1000 kills as Rajput:
Deadliest Warrior: The GameRajputtin' You to ShameThe Rajputtin' You to Shame achievement in Deadliest Warrior: The Game worth 108 pointsObtain all three Rajput titles.

300 Spartan kills:
Deadliest Warrior: The GameThat Was Sparta! The That Was Sparta! achievement in Deadliest Warrior: The Game worth 65 pointsKill 300 Spartans as the primary player.

I would also like to note that there's a great chance that you will never get the tournament achievement without boosting. So if you're boosting the tournament, just have all the players losing on purpose play as Spartan and the player winning the tournament use Rajput and combine with all these achievements. Therefore... slowly, but eventually 10 tournament wins:
Deadliest Warrior: The GameTournament to KillThe Tournament to Kill achievement in Deadliest Warrior: The Game worth 107 pointsWin 10 online tournaments as the primary player.

I suppose it goes without saying that this method also requires a dummy controller.

Just wanted to note that this method works great, since you can couple it with working towards his 1,000 kills. Was killing a Spartan by the time reached 22 on the clock every round. Just hit him with two X,X combos and then a single X followed by the Y+B. Worth noting that I skipped the rest of the cinematic immediately following the first stab after the decapitation and they still counted. :)

If you have the DLC, I did the following:
1) Play local multiplayer, you as Rajput, opponent as Shaolin Monk
2) Throw 2 chakrams. This will harm your opponent enough that two hits should kill it.
3) Run to your enemy, then hit Y and Y when you're up close.

I did best 3 out of 5. The decapitation only seemed to happen the very first round, when the chakrams would throw at a higher arc and land near the monk's neck. But 1 out of three was decent enough while going towards the 1K kills needed for the Rajput title. You can probably do with just best 1 out of 1 if you are hurrying for this one.

There are a few different ways that are most effective for decapitating an enemy. The easiest I have found so far is to use the Spartan equiped with the default sword, run instantly up to the enemy and press , which will make a strike to your opponent's neck. Press until the enemy either dies, or loses his head. Don't continue the combo by pressing again, that may hinder the decapitation. Press it once, then wait and press it again. Another easy way is to use the Pirate, weaken the enemy, then throw a bomb with and at the same time. This will almost always decapitate the enemy.

A few general tips:

  • Fight against an enemy with little to no armor. This makes the Apache the perfect target for decapitations.
  • Play against yourself. Go into a local match and turn on a second controller, and have the other warrior just sit there while you attempt to decapitate him. Each match has 2 rounds, and after them, simply hit rematch.

This trophy will take a while, but it is by no means difficult. You will probably get a few of these in your time spent in Single Player, but you most likely won't get even nearly 100, so this will take a little bit of grinding.

You can check your progress on this on the statistics page via Options-->Battle Statistics.
